This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

In the morning, Wang Shuqiu drove Du Heng to the entrance of the Health Clinic.

As Du Heng got out of the car, Wang Shuqiu shouted after him, ”Don’t forget what you promised!”

Du Heng closed the car door and said helplessly through the window, ”My dear, you’ve said that almost 800 times since last night. Don’t worry, I remember.”

”The earlier you can get out, the better. I have no classes this afternoon, and I can take time off too.”

”Is buying furniture really that urgent?”

Wang Shuqiu was very dissatisfied with Du Heng’s attitude. ”How can it not be urgent? You’ll need to browse and choose carefully. Plus, there are appliances like refrigerators and washing machines. How can one afternoon possibly be enough? Remember, leave early! I’m off now.”

Time flew, and it was already the end of the month. The weather, as July approached, grew increasingly sweltering; even in the early morning, there wasn’t a hint of coolness.

The car started and pulled away. The friction of the tires on the ground, combined with the exhaust fumes, sent a wave of heat swirling around Du Heng’s trouser legs.

Thinking about the shopping trip scheduled to start in the afternoon, sweat began to trickle down his back.

When they first started dating, accompanying each other shopping had been a sweet experience for Du Heng. Besides, Wang Shuqiu wasn’t the type to spend money recklessly, so they mostly just browsed.

However, as the shopping trips became more frequent and the temperature soared, Du Heng found he could no longer bear going shopping with Wang Shuqiu.

It wasn’t that he didn’t love her or didn’t want to accompany her; he simply couldn’t keep up anymore.

At the night market, they might walk from one end to the other and back three or four times, yet still struggle to decide what to eat.

Shopping in malls was even more of an ordeal; they had to visit every floor and go into every shop.

Were they looking to buy anything? No, just looking.

Most importantly, Wang Shuqiu could keep going without any rest.

Du Heng hadn’t gone shopping with other girls, so he didn’t know if they were all like this.

But now, he was increasingly dreading shopping; every time, he just wanted to buy what was needed and go straight home.

Today, they were going to look at furniture and home appliances. Du Heng figured Wang Shuqiu would take at least a week to make up her mind. Just thinking about this, Du Heng felt his leg muscles cramping.

Yu Haiting also arrived early today, just in time to run into them. After waving goodbye to Wang Shuqiu as she drove off, he asked Du Heng with a smile, ”Dean, are you two preparing to get married?”

Du Heng reined in his wandering thoughts. ”Yes, we’re planning on it.”

”Have you set a date?”

As they walked into the clinic, Du Heng said with a hint of melancholy, ”Not yet. Her parents said they’re too busy at home and told us not to visit for now. We’ll have to wait until things calm down for them before we can discuss our plans.”

”How busy can they be that they can’t even spare a single day?”

Well, Du Heng couldn’t go into detail about that. Family problems shouldn’t be publicized; it depended on his prospective mother-in-law’s wishes.

Seeing Du Heng remain silent, Yu Haiting realized his question had been too abrupt. He quickly changed the subject. ”Dean, Yang Yuansheng finished his medicine yesterday. Shouldn’t we recheck him and prescribe a new course today?”

”Yes, we need to prescribe new medicine for him today. By the way, did you two do the check-up yesterday?”

When discussing the patient, Yu Haiting’s expression turned serious, and admiration was evident on his face. ”Yesterday afternoon, Xiao Wu and I performed a check-up on the patient. The frequency of urination hasn’t increased; it’s still maintained at six to seven times a day. The urine is light yellow, and the odor has lessened.”

Du Heng had a lot on his plate, so the detailed check-ups and daily follow-ups were delegated to Yu Haiting and Wu Buwei. ”What about the ascites?” Du Heng asked. ”Has it improved?”

”The abdominal distension has completely subsided, nearing normal levels. The patient seems much more comfortable overall.”

As they spoke, the two reached the corner of the hall. Instead of heading to his own office, Yu Haiting intended to accompany Du Heng.

However, Du Heng simply turned around. ”Let’s talk in your office.”

Yu Haiting turned again, saying as he walked, ”When I performed the palpation, the liver had retracted to one finger-width below the ribs and felt less distinct to the touch.”

Yu Haiting grew even more excited at this. Such check-up results clearly indicated significant improvement in Yang Yuansheng’s condition.

”So, last night, I told Yang Yuansheng not to eat this morning so we could perform a liver function test.”

”Can our equipment handle it?”

”It shouldn’t be a problem.”

Just then, Mr. Liu, the sole doctor in the Inspection Department, walked in. ”Dean, Dr. Yu, good morning. Should we proceed with Yang Yuansheng’s blood tests and laboratory tests now?”

Yu Haiting didn’t answer, looking instead at Du Heng.

Seeing this, Du Heng said, ”Since everyone’s here, let’s begin.”

Immediately, they split up to prepare: some began starting the machines, while others went to find the nurses.

In other hospitals, obtaining an examination report could take anywhere from half an hour to a full day. After all, with so many patients undergoing tests, speed was impossible, and they dared not rush.

But the Health Clinic was different.

Now, with only one patient requiring blood tests and laboratory tests, it wouldn’t take much time at all. In fact, the actual testing took less time than it did for the machine to warm up.

When they first saw the inspection sheet, Yu Haiting and the others all stared wide-eyed, their faces filled with disbelief.

They had anticipated Yang Yuansheng’s condition would improve, with all indicators moving closer to normal values, but seeing the actual inspection sheet still felt incredible.

All the values, though still outside the reference range, were already very close. The difference was especially stark when they compared it to Yang Yuansheng’s initial admission examination report.

”Dean, Yang Yuansheng’s liver function shows a tendency to turn Yin.”

The prospect of ’turning Yin’ made Du Heng slightly excited as well.

He had been wondering if, beyond alleviating the symptoms, it might be possible to actually cure Yang Yuansheng.

But because the pathogens he had encountered were few, this was the first time he had even considered such a possibility. All his ideas were still in the exploratory stage.

The theories of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine differ. For example, the same condition, liver cirrhosis, might have various syndrome differentiation results under a traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis. However, if Yang Yuansheng’s liver function could genuinely turn Yin, it would be an incredibly promising start. It would suggest that liver cirrhosis might indeed be curable.

That would undoubtedly hold significant guiding and referential value for future treatments.

In front of Du Heng lay three inspection sheets. The oldest was from the first affiliated hospital of JZU, dated six months ago. The second was from his admission to the Health Clinic three weeks prior. The third was the one just completed.

Three sheets, three different sets of inspection results.

The discrepancies in the data were quite large. Even ignoring the latest sheet, the differences between the first and second were already substantial.

Du Heng stared intently at the inspection sheets, his expression serious. He needed to verify something.
