This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Li Qiuhua was the first, and so far, the only person Du Heng had brought back from the brink of death.

He was extremely clear about her treatment process and medication usage. For such a condition of extreme deficiency and excess, treatment needed to focus on both attacking and supplementing. Therefore, he had used a variation of the nurishing origin and strengthening essence powder. This formula, utilizing potent ingredients, robustly supplemented the innate kidney qi and rebuilt the body’s immunity. He had also employed blood-stasis-resolving, phlegm-dispelling, and insect-derived medicines. To address the disease’s entrenched nature, which was difficult to attack directly, he adopted a gentle offensive strategy: fortifying the upright qi to secure the root, progressing from superficial to deep, meticulously clearing obstructions by entering the collaterals, and dispelling stasis to dissolve nodules—all attacking the pathogen without damaging the righteous qi. Finally, using blast-fried pangolin scales and musk as a medicinal pair, they thoroughly penetrated and broke through, dispelling foulness and transforming turbidity, guiding all the medicines directly into the lung orifices to clear out damp phlegm and dead blood.

It was the comprehensive use of these medicines, combined with Li Qiuhua’s follow-up examination results, that seemed to have a repairing and activating effect on damaged lung tissue lesions. However, Li Qiuhua’s treatment time was still short and couldn’t be taken as sufficient evidence. Moreover, there was only one case like hers so far, and no other cases for Du Heng to verify his hypothesis. Nevertheless, with Li Qiuhua’s precedent, Du Heng would definitely pursue a complete cure as his ultimate goal in treating Yang Yuansheng. Moreover, his current medication approach was also geared towards this direction.

Hearing Du Heng’s response, Yu Haiting slowed his pace and was stunned for a moment. He might have misheard. He actually sensed a hint of confidence from Du Heng—confidence in reversing and curing liver cirrhosis.

Their age difference wasn’t significant, but looking at Du Heng’s back, Yu Haiting felt he seemed taller, more solid and dependable.

Yu Haiting didn’t ask any further questions. He hoped that the confidence Du Heng showed could be maintained and eventually become a reality, rather than turning into arrogance and conceit.

In the remaining time of the morning, Du Heng and Yu Haiting took the initiative to handle all the treatment work, freeing up Wu Buwei and Xiao Li.

In the afternoon, Du Heng took the sorted materials and went to see An Chunhui. As for whether An Chunhui would make a big fuss, and to what extent, this was not something Du Heng needed to concern himself with.

After reporting the matter, Du Heng checked the time and decided not to return to the Health Clinic. Instead, he left work early to find Zhao Xinfang.

Well, being a leader had its perks, like being able to come and go from work at any time without anyone checking attendance. Even if someone did, Wang Zhenzhen would handle it when she did the records.

Zhao Xinfang had already found a job—not the food delivery driver or courier positions he had initially considered. Although those two jobs had low entry barriers and offered relatively high incomes, Du Heng and Wang Shuqiu would never have agreed to let him do such work, considering Zhao Xinfang’s situation, as it was too dangerous.

Zhao Xinfang indeed looked much better now. He hadn’t had a relapse in over a month and could manage his emotions better when encountering triggers. But with epilepsy, especially now, during the consolidation phase of treatment, who could guarantee there wouldn’t be a relapse? If he suddenly had a seizure while riding his bike for deliveries amidst heavy traffic, the harm to himself and others could be irreparable.

So, in the end, Du Heng had used a connection through his Classmate to arrange a position for Zhao Xinfang as a deliveryman for Medicine Ingredients at the Herbal Medicine Company where this Classmate worked. The job was not tiring but a bit dirty, as it involved following the delivery truck and helping to move Medicine Ingredients and medicinal products into the various pharmacies. However, deliveries followed a schedule and weren’t constant. According to his Classmate, Zhao Xinfang would spend about half his time in the warehouse, needing to plan delivery routes in advance, sort and organize the Medicine Ingredients and medicinal products, and determine the loading order for the truck.

Of course, the salary for such a job couldn’t be too high. During the one-month probation period, the salary was 3,600 yuan. After passing probation, it would increase to 4,000 yuan. Including full attendance, allowances, bonuses, and the like, he could earn 4,300-4,400 yuan a month.

Zhao Xinfang had only been on the job for a week. Although Du Heng’s Classmate, a regional manager, had promised to look out for him, he couldn’t possibly attend to every detail for a regional delivery employee. Besides, Du Heng felt he couldn’t keep troubling him, especially since arranging the job was already a significant favor.

Since Du Heng had time today, he wanted to see how Zhao Xinfang was faring at work and whether he was adapting. After all, it was the young man’s first time away from home and his first formal job, so Du Heng and Wang Shuqiu still had many concerns.

Upon arriving, Du Heng didn’t immediately look for Zhao Xinfang. Instead, he bought two large bags of various fruits and went to find his Classmate, Liao Quansheng, the regional manager of the Herbal Medicine Company.

”Well, well, Du! Are you here to visit relatives or something?” Liao Quansheng exclaimed. His office, all glass partitions, was brightly lit, yet the dark, complete set of executive furniture inside looked a bit tacky. Liao Quansheng chuckled as he watched Du Heng walk in with two bags of fruit, rising to greet him. ”You could’ve just come yourself, no need to bring such a lavish gift. You’re being too formal!”

Du Heng, pretending not to understand the sarcasm, chuckled and said, ”Isn’t this to thank you? You’re the benefactor who helped me out big time.”

”Don’t mention it,” Liao Quansheng said, waving it off but clearly pleased. ”Your brother-in-law is my brother-in-law; it’s only natural I’d help. Besides, it was nothing. It’s my own brother-in-law’s company, so arranging a delivery driver position is a piece of cake for me.” Even as old classmates, he couldn’t resist playfully emphasizing their connection.

Du Heng put the two bags of fruit on the table and, not standing on ceremony, plopped down on the sofa. ”Still, I have to thank you. After all, he’s my own dear brother-in-law. A gift too meager would be embarrassing.”

Liao Quansheng rolled his eyes, poured Du Heng a cup of tea, and placed it before him. ”Can’t you tell I’m being sarcastic? You think two bags of fruit is enough to ’thank’ me?”

”Don’t be ungrateful. These two bags of fruit cost me over a hundred yuan. Besides, you’re a leader in your company now. If I give you too expensive a gift, aren’t you afraid of being reported?”

Liao Quansheng looked at Du Heng, speechless. ”I’m an employee of a private company, and it’s my family’s company at that. What the hell is there to report? Just admit you’re stingy and stop making excuses.”

After laughing, the two began to chat casually. When the topic turned to Medicine Ingredients, Liao Quansheng suddenly said, ”Oh, right, let me give you a heads-up. A company recently acquired a batch of substandard Medicine Ingredients, and some of them are outright fakes. I heard they’re targeting rural areas, planning to offload this batch at extremely low prices. You need to be on guard; don’t fall into their trap.”

Du Heng sighed with a hint of helplessness. ”You’re a bit late with the warning. Our township has already been hit. Four village doctor clinics have been affected. I don’t have the authority to investigate private clinics, but based on feedback from some patients, it’s almost certain that others have also fallen victim.”

”Damn it! Those bastards move fast! I only found out about this last Friday. Did your Health Clinic suffer any losses?”

”It’s manageable. The four clinics I identified are cooperating and have already contacted the people who sold them the Medicine Ingredients. As for the outcome, I don’t know. Anyway, I’ve said and done what I could. The rest is up to the Supervision Department.”

Du Heng suddenly slapped his thigh. ”Alright, enough chitchat. I’m going to see Xiao Fang.”

Liao Quansheng also got up. ”Let’s go together. There are too many warehouses; you probably wouldn’t find him. Besides, I could use a walk.”
