This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wei Kaida leaned forward and lowered his voice. ”Gong said that girl has an aura similar to his colleagues. She probably didn’t slap you twice last night because she might have had something to do there and didn’t want to blow her cover. That’s why she didn’t sort you out and was even willing to drink with you.”

Du Heng dismissed the speculation with a smirk. ”Cut it out. Do you think you’re watching a TV drama? Nonsense. Are you trying to scare me?”

”I’m not talking nonsense. This is what Gong, your brother-in-law, said.”

At this, Du Heng’s heart genuinely skipped a beat.

What if it’s true? Then last night, he had purely been asking for trouble, bringing it all on himself.

He must quit drinking. Even if he can’t stand it, he must quit.

From now on, no matter who tries to persuade him or what the occasion, if he so much as sniffs alcohol, he’s a dog.

Just as he finished making this vow, his phone buzzed.

He glanced at it, and his previously downcast expression vanished. Getting up to leave, he said, ”You eat by yourself. I have something to do, so I’m going.”

His sudden movement confused Wei Kaida. ”Du, don’t tell me you’re still upset. I’ve already deleted the video.”

”It has nothing to do with that. I really have something to deal with.”

With that, he left the restaurant without a backward glance, hailed a taxi, and sped away.

He rushed to the rented apartment. Zhao Xinfang opened the door, his face gloomy.

When Zhao Xinfang saw it was Du Heng, his expression eased slightly. ”Brother-in-law.”

Seeing Zhao Xinfang seemed unharmed, Du Heng secretly breathed a sigh of relief. ”Are they inside?”

”Both of them are in the room, talking to my sister.”

”You go out for a walk, or call Yu Zhu and go shopping. I’ll go in and keep your sister company.”

Du Heng patted Zhao Xinfang’s shoulder, then casually pushed him out the door and shut it with a BANG.

Walking through the hallway, he saw the two people Wang Shuqiu and Zhao Xinfang both detested: their maternal uncle and aunt.

When they saw Du Heng enter, they merely glanced at him before continuing to speak to Wang Shuqiu. ”Xiao Qiu, that girl and Xiao Fang know each other. Even if she’s not his girlfriend, they’re friends, right? We know Xiao Fang doesn’t want to talk to us. You’re his older sister; you should talk to him. Get him to find that girl, and let’s just drop this matter.”

Wang Shuqiu was seated at an angle on the sofa. ”I’ve made myself very clear. Xiao Fang is an adult, and I have no right to interfere with his thoughts or actions. If you have anything to say, say it to him. Besides, that girl isn’t Xiao Fang’s friend; she’s his superior. Her brother is Xiao Fang’s boss, so Xiao Fang doesn’t have that much influence.”

”Moreover, your son injured that girl’s head, and she’s gone into hiding. Her family is wealthy; do you think they’d listen to Xiao Fang? Also, if you want to apologize and obtain forgiveness, you should go to their door yourselves. What right do you have to order me and Xiao Fang around?”

Wang Shuqiu gave them no face, nor any leeway, essentially telling them to handle it themselves however they wished.

Seeing Wang Shuqiu wouldn’t budge, the two turned their gaze to Du Heng and glanced behind him. ”Where’s Xiao Fang? Why didn’t he come in?”

”I sent him out to play. I was afraid Xiao Fang would get agitated seeing you, and it wouldn’t be worth it.”

Their uncle glared. ”What kind of way is that to talk?”

Du Heng didn’t even bother to respond, turning instead to Wang Shuqiu. ”Do you have anything else to do?”

Wang Shuqiu, puzzled by his question, replied, ”No, nothing else.”

”If there’s nothing else, let’s go eat. I haven’t had a single bite all day. I’m starving.”

”Oh,” Wang Shuqiu said, immediately understanding Du Heng’s intention. She stood up and addressed her uncle and aunt, ”Uncle, Aunt, if you have nothing else, please leave. We’re going out to eat.”

Her uncle, still putting on the airs of an elder, said, ”What’s wrong with you, child? We ask you to help your brother, and you refuse to listen?”

”My brother? Xiao Fang doesn’t need any help. And Xiao Fang certainly doesn’t need your concern.”

”I’m talking about Xiao Yuan.”

”Then I’m sorry, I don’t know him.”

Her uncle was infuriated and stepped forward. ”How can you be so heartless? Xiao Yuan is your brother too! What’s wrong with helping him? Do you have to see him locked up to be satisfied?”

”It probably won’t come to him being locked up. If you go apologize and pay some compensation, it should be fine.”

”But that despicable girl and her family won’t agree! And they also said they need some kind of forgiveness statement from you two.”

Hearing her uncle speak so recklessly, Wang Shuqiu sneered. A leopard can’t change its spots, she thought. Listen to him. He hasn’t even said much, and he’s already started cursing. ”What does that have to do with us? What kind of forgiveness are we supposed to give?”

”Didn’t you also claim that Xiao Yuan stalked you and smashed your door? If both parties involved—you and the other victim—don’t agree to forgive him, Xiao Yuan will be charged with ’provoking a fight’ and locked up.”

Du Heng’s heart skipped a beat. He hadn’t expected Liao Quansheng to be so effective. Provoking a fight, TSK, TSK, not bad at all.

After her uncle finished speaking, Wang Shuqiu confronted them directly for the first time. ”Alright, since you’ve brought it up, let me ask you, Uncle and Aunt: Zhao Xinyuan smashed my door twice and verbally abused me. He tried to hit me twice, and the second time, he even came prepared with tools. What was he trying to do? Can you give me an explanation?”

Uhh...

They both fell silent. After more than ten seconds, her uncle said, ”Yuan Yuan is still young and too impulsive. You’re his older sister; please forgive him.”

Wang Shuqiu sneered. ”Forgive? So you’re saying that if I were beaten, I should just forgive him because I’m his older sister? And ’child’? How can you even say that? He’s a university graduate! Even without a diploma, he’s twenty-three. Is that how old a ’child’ is? Ridiculous!”

”I...”

”Enough. Say no more. I have no forgiveness to give here; the police will find out what he was trying to do. As for the girl who was beaten, you deal with it yourselves. Don’t come to me.”

Saying this, she stepped aside from the doorway. ”Please leave. We’re going out to eat.”

The two were dumbstruck, not expecting Wang Shuqiu to be so resolute.

They immediately shifted their gaze back to Du Heng. ”Xiao Heng, I heard you introduced Xiao Fang to his job, and his boss is your classmate. Can you help us plead for mercy?”

Du Heng smiled. ”Don’t be so familiar. We’re not close.”

That single phrase, ”we’re not close,” made his stance perfectly clear.

They could speak harshly to Wang Shuqiu, but not to Du Heng. They had learned that much during their visit in May.

Seeing Du Heng’s attitude, they grew immediately anxious. The aunt said, ”Xiao Heng, as long as you’re willing to help, I’ll get my sister—Shuqiu’s mother—to approve your marriage with Qiuqiu. You can get married immediately, I’m serious!”

Du Heng looked at them intently. ”No need, thank you. Please leave. This is my rented house. Otherwise, I’ll have to call the police.”
