This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The first thing upon returning to the Health Clinic was to settle up with Wang Zhenzhen. After seeing the extra money in the account, Wang Zhenzhen took back the expense list and let Du Heng off the hook.

As she did the bookkeeping, she asked Du Heng why the Township Government had paid so readily this time.

Du Heng was also wondering. Even now that the money was in hand, he was still wondering why Song Jiaying had been so swift to pay this time, and had even taken care of everything without him having to ask.

So, he couldn’t answer Wang Zhenzhen’s question because he didn’t know the answer himself.

But it didn’t matter. Whatever the reason, as long as they paid, that was all that mattered. The rest had nothing to do with his Health Clinic.

After finishing these chores, Du Heng went upstairs to relieve Wu Buwei. ”Buwei, go study. Your exams are next week; time to buckle down. By the way, take Xiao Li with you and have him hit the books too.”

”Thank you, Senior Brother.” Wu Buwei handed the needle tool kit to Du Heng, letting him finish the remaining treatments, and went back to study.

The peaceful and fulfilling day passed quickly. After work, Du Heng didn’t plan to go home; he wanted to find Wei Kaida and the others to settle a score.

Those assholes had secretly spent several thousand of his yuan yesterday. Today, none of them answered his phone calls.

Dong Yuezhang was slightly better; he answered the call but said he was in a meeting and immediately hung up, without explaining why they had spent so much money.

When Du Heng stormed into the Perilla Clinic, Wei Kaida tried to bolt the moment he saw him. However, the clinic only had one exit, and the place wasn’t that big; in a couple of moves, Du Heng had an arm around Wei Kaida’s neck.

”Playa, tell me honestly, what did you guys do after I got drunk yesterday?”

Wei Kaida, with Du Heng’s arm around his neck, said pitifully, not daring to move, ”Bro, it really wasn’t us who spent the money. It was you.”

”Bullshit! I was drunk and lying down. How could I have spent money? It must have been you who used my phone to pay, right?”

Hearing that he himself had spent the money, Du Heng refused to believe it deep down. He knew his own tolerance for alcohol better than anyone. Moreover, Wei Kaida looked a bit guilty, which made Du Heng even more convinced that this rascal was behind it.

”It really was you who spent it. It has nothing to do with us.”

”Nonsense! You guys must have been up to no good. Spill the beans!” As he spoke, he tightened his arm around Wei Kaida’s neck.

Wei Kaida got exasperated and said repeatedly, ”Fine, fine! If you want to dig your own grave, then I’ll help you. Let go of me!”

Du Heng was stunned. ”What do you mean?”

Wei Kaida struggled free, rolled his neck, gave Du Heng a mischievous smirk, and said, ”Since you’re so eager for death, Bro, I’ll grant your wish.”

With that, Wei Kaida took out his phone, found a video, and started playing it for Du Heng.

Du Heng took the phone with a puzzled expression. As he watched, his face began to change—first a light blush, then a deep red, and finally, even his ears turned crimson.

...

In the small restaurant, Du Heng sat in the corner, completely drained of spirit, staring blankly ahead and muttering to himself, ”How could this be? This is impossible!”

Watching Du Heng, who was on the verge of social death, Wei Kaida laughed so hard his stomach hurt.

To think that Du Heng, who had always been so mature and composed ever since their school days, could also have such a wild moment!

”It’s alright, we’re all brothers here, and no one else saw. It won’t affect your glorious image as the Dean.” Though they sounded like comforting words, the smirk playing on Wei Kaida’s lips was incredibly infuriating.

However, Du Heng didn’t look at Wei Kaida and continued to mutter with his head down, ”It’s impossible. I was drunk. How could I have...?”

Wei Kaida tried his best to suppress his laughter. ”We’re curious too. You used to pass out after just one drink and find a place to sleep. But last night, you were probably too excited, or maybe the music in the bar was too loud, so you couldn’t sleep soundly, which is why you couldn’t fall asleep.”

Du Heng glared sideways at Wei Kaida. ”It’s all your fault for choosing a music bar. A regular restaurant would have been much better.”

”Hey, hey, hey, you can’t blame me for this! You agreed to the place we picked.”

”Then you still should have stopped me! Didn’t you know I was drunk?”

”Du Heng, you have to be fair! You saw the video. Didn’t I try to stop you? I practically had to wrestle you down!” Wei Kaida acted as if he’d been grievously wronged, though of course, he was just putting on a show.

The truth was, they had all tried to stop Du Heng, but none of them had been entirely committed to it.

Wei Kaida, suppressing his laughter and pretending to be aggrieved, said, ”We were having a good time singing when you suddenly got up and said you needed to go to the toilet. We couldn’t stop you from doing that, right? But when you went out and dragged a girl in from outside, how were we supposed to stop you?”

Du Heng grumbled, ”Couldn’t one of you have followed me?”

”What kind of sickos do you take us for, following you to the bathroom? And you were grabbing that girl and wouldn’t let go. You saw the video, I’m not making this up, am I? Didn’t we tell you to let her go? But you just wouldn’t! You insisted you two knew each other.”

Wei Kaida suddenly looked at Du Heng with admiration. ”Bro, I really didn’t see this side of you! Gong Daoyang is your future brother-in-law, after all. You grabbed a girl right in front of him, and such a pretty one too! Weren’t you afraid he’d tell your wife-to-be?”

How could Du Heng not be panicking? But then again, he felt Gong Daoyang wasn’t that kind of person. Besides, he had been drunk; it was an unintentional act.

”But what about later?” Du Heng asked. ”Why didn’t you stop me then? I even heard you laughing.”

”You were making the girl drink with you, and she was willing to. How were we supposed to stop that?”

”I’m not talking about that.”

”Oh~~~, you mean buying the drinks? We tried to stop you!!! But we couldn’t. You were being incredibly flashy! I even recorded everything you said. How could we stop you then?”

They had genuinely tried to stop him when he was splashing out cash, but they hadn’t managed it.

Du Heng rubbed his face hard. ”Alright, let’s just drop this. Delete the video, quickly.”

Wei Kaida didn’t move to delete it, chuckling as he said, ”What about you caterwauling while singing later? Aren’t you going to ask about that? Or about how you wanted to lead everyone in some disco dancing?”

Du Heng’s face went black as thunder. ”Delete it! Delete it now! This ends here. Forget about it.”

Wei Kaida knew Du Heng was thin-skinned. Seeing his face darken, he didn’t tease him too much further. Smiling, he took out his phone and started deleting the video. He also knew the stakes; the video didn’t just feature Du Heng, but also Dong Yuezhang and Gong Daoyang. All three of them held positions. If this got out, it would be truly scandalous and damaging.

As he was deleting the video, Wei Kaida suddenly asked Du Heng, ”Was that girl really your friend?”

Du Heng was a bit dazed himself. When he first watched the video, he only had a vague feeling she looked familiar, like someone he’d met once. But she definitely wasn’t a friend; otherwise, how could she only look familiar, without him remembering her name, what she did, or where they’d met?

This drinking... why didn’t I pass out like usual? Why did I black out instead?

Passing out after one drink was already embarrassing enough. I can’t believe that when the alcohol went to my head, I made such a huge fool of myself. This is mortifying!

Thank goodness I didn’t invite Wang Shuqiu or any other women last night. Otherwise, I’d have to jump into the Yellow River out of shame!

Seeing Du Heng remain silent, Wei Kaida guessed he probably didn’t know the girl well and continued, ”If she’s not your friend, then it’s just like what Gong said yesterday.”

Du Heng looked up in confusion. ”What did he say?”
