This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

After dinner, Du Heng and his girlfriend offered to give Zhao Xinfang and Liao Yuzhu a ride home.

However, Liao Yuzhu refused. Seeing that Zhao Xinfang seemed inclined as well, Du Heng didn’t want to spoil the mood. So, they said their goodbyes, and Du Heng drove home with Wang Shuqiu.

Wang Shuqiu seemed very excited, both emotionally and behaviorally. It was clear that she was quite satisfied with Liao Yuzhu.

”Du, what do you think of this girl?”

Du Heng just smiled and didn’t answer. After a moment, he asked Wang Shuqiu in return, ”What’s your feeling?”

Wang Shuqiu seemed to have been waiting for Du Heng’s question. As soon as he finished speaking, she, in the passenger seat, immediately responded excitedly, ”She’s beautiful, fashionable, and has a nice personality. There’s no pretense about her, and I enjoyed chatting with her. She doesn’t act like a rich, spoiled girl and didn’t look down on anyone.”

On their way back up the mountain, they had to pass by the Township Government on the township road, which was busy with ballast trucks at night. These trucks drove fast, and the road was quite narrow, so Du Heng drove very carefully.

Hearing Wang Shuqiu’s words, Du Heng chuckled and replied, ”Are you afraid of being looked down upon? Are you looking down on me, the Health Clinic Dean, or are you looking down on your title as the Dean’s wife?”

”Stop changing the subject and be serious. I’m serious,” Wang Shuqiu said, turning to Du Heng and pouting playfully.

”Go on, I’m listening.”

”I’m quite satisfied with this girl, and she seems to care a lot about Xiao Fang. I don’t know if you noticed, but during dinner, she wasn’t just focused on her own meal, nor did she only chat with me; instead, most of her attention was on Xiao Fang. I think she’s sincere about him.”

Sincere?

Du Heng didn’t know and hadn’t noticed. Perhaps Wang Shuqiu, being a woman, was more perceptive about these things. Don’t dwell on the past; just observe future actions. That was Du Heng’s current thought.Wang Shuqiu still wanted to chat, but Du Heng’s phone rang, interrupting her. Since Du Heng was concentrating on driving, she answered the call for him. A man’s voice came through the speaker, ”Xiao Heng, how are you? What are you up to?”

Du Heng swerved to avoid an oncoming large truck and carefully accelerated again.

Hearing the voice from the speaker, he glanced at the phone screen in surprise. He hadn’t expected this person to call at this hour.

But it was just a moment of surprise. While driving carefully and slowing down, he replied, ”Uncle Wang, hello. I’m in the car, on my way home.”

”Being a doctor is tough, getting home so late. It’s not easy.”

Du Heng was momentarily stuck for words. ”No, I just went out for dinner with my girlfriend. Uncle Wang, is there something urgent for you to call so late?”

”Well, our Savings Bank has a quota for interest-free loans for farmers, but we haven’t even completed half of it yet. I heard your older brother raises sheep. Could you have your older brother help out and assist me in fulfilling a 100,000 yuan quota? What do you think?”

One hundred thousand yuan? For farmers who only engage in planting and animal husbandry, this amount wasn’t just enough; it was more than enough. Especially since it was interest-free, it was incredibly tempting.

Did farmers need it? Of course, they did—desperately.

Take Wang Shiyuan’s family, for example. If they could get this 100,000 yuan interest-free loan, their situation would change dramatically.

Even for Du Ping, two months ago, it would have been very necessary.

But now, they really didn’t need it.

Moreover, such opportunities had never come their way in the past, even though he and this Uncle Wang’s son were classmates.

Du Heng’s heart skipped a beat. ”Thank you, Uncle Wang, for remembering me for such a good thing. But I can’t make the decision on this. I have to go back and ask my older brother.”

”That’s a given. I’ll hold this spot for you for now.”

”Thank you, Uncle Wang. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.”

”No rush, take your time. By the way, Xiao Heng, I heard your Health Clinic is going to be upgraded?”

Sure enough, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. Du Heng immediately knew what Uncle Wang was after.

”Not at all. We’re just renovating, making improvements as required by our superiors. As for an upgrade, the higher-ups haven’t considered it for the time being. It will depend on our future results.”

”Haha, Xiao Heng, with your current abilities, achieving that won’t be difficult at all. Alright, I won’t keep you from driving. I’ll hang up now.”

Listening to the busy tone, Du Heng felt extremely uneasy.

Talking with people like him was exhausting. He wasn’t a high-ranking official, yet he loved to speak cryptically. Du Heng could definitely guess his intentions from those half-finished sentences, but it was incredibly frustrating.

Wang Shuqiu reached out and ended the call on the phone. She didn’t mention Liao Yuzhu anymore and turned to ask Du Heng, ”Who was that? Someone in charge of loans?”

”My classmate’s father, the top leader of our Township Savings Office.”

”Ohh... he’s offering you a loan. What’s his intention?”

”Didn’t he just ask about the Health Clinic’s upgrade? I suppose he wants to arrange a position for someone.”

”From his family?”

”Unlikely. I know his family’s situation. My classmate and his wife both have jobs, and his older sister is in another city. So he’s probably asking on behalf of someone else.”

Du Heng’s brow furrowed. ”No, I need to find out for sure. Honey, find a contact named ’Wang Gouzi’ in my phone for me.”

Wang Shuqiu found the number and dialed it. It was answered after just a few rings.

”Wang, what are you up to?”

”What else could I be doing? Putting my daughter to bed, of course. What’s up?”

”Is anyone in your family studying medicine or nursing?”

This time, the Health Clinic was only recruiting one logistics staff and three nurses.

With a 100,000 yuan loan on the table, it certainly wouldn’t be for a logistics position. It must be for a doctor or a nurse.

For a nurse, if they were reasonably competent, Du Heng might agree. But for a doctor, there was absolutely no possibility.

So, this matter had to be clarified.

”Did my dad call you? He told me to call you, but I didn’t. Just ignore my dad.”

”What’s going on? Do you know what this is about?”

”Sigh, my dad probably couldn’t refuse my mom. He’s trying to find a job for my maternal uncle’s daughter-in-law.”

Just as he’d thought, it was indeed to help someone else out.

”What’s her specialization? How skilled is she? You know we’re hiring right now. If it’s a recommendation from an acquaintance, someone whose background we know, we’d feel more at ease, wouldn’t you say?”

He could disregard the father’s ’face,’ but he had to give his classmate some consideration.

”No, don’t even think about it. I wouldn’t dare recommend her. Do you know why I didn’t call you, and my dad did? It’s because I was too embarrassed to ask. If my uncle’s daughter-in-law were even slightly up to par, I would have swallowed my pride and called you. But she’s really no good—bad character, incompetent, loves to slack off, and never admits her mistakes when she makes them. I’m advising you, just ignore my dad, or you’ll be the one dealing with the trouble.”

”Alright, I get it.”
