This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The matter of finding Zhao Xinyuan went about as Du Heng had guessed; just two days later, that good-for-nothing was dragged out of an internet café corner by the police.

However, this had little to do with Du Heng and the others.

Considering Wang Shuqiu’s uncle and aunt, as well as her mother, Du Heng explained the situation to Liao Quansheng and asked him to intervene as the victim’s family representative, with Zhao Xinfang serving as a witness.

Otherwise, given Wang Shuqiu’s family situation, nothing would have come of this matter, and it would have simply been brushed under the rug.

This time, it wasn’t just Du Heng who didn’t want to let it go; Wang Shuqiu and Zhao Xinfang also wanted to teach that family of three a lesson, preferably in a way that would make them feel some real pain.

So, when Du Heng heard the news, he didn’t pay much attention to it and went to work as usual the next day.

”Brother, where have you been these past couple of days? You don’t look too well.” After inspecting the new building, Du Heng and Wu Buwei walked towards Yang Yuansheng’s hospital room in the old courtyard. Wu Buwei looked at the listless Du Heng and voiced his concern.

Du Heng straightened his back somewhat uncomfortably. Over the weekend, he had spent both days accompanying Wang Shuqiu around the furniture centre, and there was no rest at night either, as he had to collect debts.

At first, he was the one collecting debts, but after two days, he felt more like the one repaying them. It was unbearable!

”I spent two days accompanying your sister-in-law around the furniture centre; I’m a bit tired.”

Wu Buwei nodded in agreement. ”It’s terrifying to go shopping with a woman. She might not buy a single item, but she can wander around tirelessly all day.”

”Tell me about it! After two days of looking, nothing caught her eye, and she said she’d continue this week.”

As they chatted, the two entered Yang Yuansheng’s hospital room.

At this moment, Yang Yuansheng was sitting on his hospital bed, smiling as he waited for Du Heng and the others to arrive.

Two weeks ago, his complexion was sallow and ashen, his spirit depleted, and his whole body seemed drained of strength, weak and limp.

But now, his face was rosy, he was full of spirit, and his back was remarkably straight.

Seeing Yang Yuansheng’s condition, Du Heng smiled with satisfaction. After half a month, he was finally seeing results.

”Yang Yuansheng, how do you feel?”

”I feel great. I can eat and drink well. Apart from a slight bloating in my stomach, I don’t feel any other discomfort.”

Yang Yuansheng looked at Du Heng with gratitude.

Truth be told, when Du Heng had found him, he had already given up on life. If it weren’t for the fear that the stigma of suicide would tarnish his son’s reputation and prospects, he truly wouldn’t have wanted to live another day.

During that time, every extra day he lived felt like torture.

But now, after half a month, he felt alive again; he saw hope once more.

With his current physical condition, he believed he could at least earn enough to cover his son’s university tuition and, hopefully, repay all his loans before his time came.

Du Heng asked Yang Yuansheng to lie down and began his check-up.

Just then, Xiao Liu from the Inspection Department came in with the newly printed test sheet.

After completing the examination, Du Heng took the inspection sheet and read it carefully. ”The bilirubin levels are still a bit high, but they’re very close to normal now.”

Yang Yuansheng looked at him expectantly. ”Doctor Du, does that mean I’m cured?”

”As I said before, you’re still some way from being completely healed.” Seeing the joy on Yang Yuansheng’s face begin to fade, Du Heng continued, ”But, you can be discharged. The rest of your recovery can be done at home.”

”I can be discharged?” Yang Yuansheng stood up excitedly.

”Yes, you can be discharged this afternoon. I will prescribe you some medicine. Take it on time at home, don’t do any heavy physical work, and come back for a check-up once a week.”

”Thank you, Doctor Du! Thank you, Dr. Wu!” Yang Yuansheng was quite emotional.

During the half-month he had been here, he had grown quite restless.

He was well aware of his condition. To avoid troubling Du Heng and the Health Clinic, his daily activities were confined to his hospital room and the small area just outside its door.

Moreover, he was staying in a ward in the old courtyard building, which had no television to pass the time.

He didn’t know what being imprisoned felt like, but he imagined it couldn’t be much different from this.

At least in prison, one would have fellow inmates. But here, apart from the nurse who delivered his meals and medicine three times a day, and Wu Buwei who came for his treatments, he hadn’t spoken with anyone else.

Seeing the emotional Yang Yuansheng, Du Heng laughed and said, ”Now, don’t you go crying on me. We’re all fellow villagers here. If word got out, they’d laugh you to death.”

”Spread the word, I don’t mind, let them laugh!”

Although he said that, Yang Yuansheng still tried to control his emotions.

”You rest for a bit. I’ll go prescribe your medicine, and then Dr. Wu can give you another treatment. We also need to process your discharge procedures, so you’ll be able to leave this afternoon. In the meantime, call someone from your village to come and pick you up.”

Speaking of discharge, Yang Yuansheng suddenly said, ”Doctor Du, you know my financial situation. I might not be able to pay the hospitalization fees right away.”

But then he looked earnestly at Du Heng and said, ”But rest assured, I won’t be short a single cent. Once I’m discharged, I’ll get my truck back and start driving routes myself. I’ll definitely be able to pay back the money. I’m not the kind of person who defaults on debts.”

His word was enough.

Du Heng smiled lightly and comforted Yang Yuansheng, ”I told you when I asked you to come here that you don’t need to worry about the money; we’ll take care of everything.”

Yang Yuansheng said, ”That won’t do. The national policy is good, so I know medication fees and such can be reimbursed. But I’ve been hospitalized here for half a month, and the cost of my meals and other expenses certainly can’t be reimbursed. You cured my illness; you can’t also be expected to pay for my keep.”

Du Heng shook his head. ”It’s good that you feel that way. But really, you don’t need to worry about the money. Since I promised you wouldn’t have to spend anything, then you won’t. Alright, just listen to me. Let Dr. Wu give you your treatment. I’ll go prescribe your medicine and then process your discharge procedures.”

After saying this, Du Heng left without waiting for Yang Yuansheng to reply.

Back in his office, Du Heng took out the prescription he had written earlier. Looking at the listed medicine ingredients, he found himself in a predicament.

Blast-fried pangolin scales enter the liver meridian and stomach meridian. They are effective for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and also have swelling-reducing and diuretic effects. This medicine had also been used on Li Qiuhua.

But the practical problem was, the Health Clinic simply didn’t stock this medicine.

There was another medicine: whole placenta. This could warm the kidneys, replenish essence, and nourish qi and blood. This medicine, too, had been used on Li Qiuhua.

The combination of these two medicines had been validated on Li Qiuhua, yielding excellent recovery results for her.

But the problem was the same: the Health Clinic didn’t have them, and they had to be sourced from a Big Hospital.

If it were someone else, someone with family or in reasonably good health themselves, Du Heng could have asked the patient to find a way to get the medicines. But Yang Yuansheng couldn’t.

The most crucial issue was that he had no money.
