The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 846: Chapter 846: Birth Month, Song Ci’s Worries

Song Lingzhao and his younger brother secretly carried out their little plan to run away from home right under the adults’ noses, perfecting their escape route. Perhaps feeling reluctant to leave, Song Lingzhao, contrary to his usual behavior, clung tightly to Jiang Shi, so much so that Jiang Shi was annoyed and thought her son was possessed; he was at the age to settle down but still wanted to be babied.

Yet even so, their little actions didn’t attract the adults’ attention. Firstly, the chaos from Song Zhiqing’s side had already caused quite a stir, and with new members entering the household, it naturally drew attention away.

But strangely, ever since Aunt Shen joined the household, the third branch suddenly quieted down. It’s uncertain whether Shen Shi brought a sense of crisis to Bai Shuilian, causing her to quietly follow Shen Shi’s lead, adhering to rules and humbly keeping a low profile, which surprised Lu Shi.

The third branch was the largest and most complex, so this change was welcomed by everyone.

As the weather got hotter, the capital became like a furnace. Seeing that everything was peaceful and with spring rains and winds favorably, reports of a bountiful harvest began to spread from across the region, Emperor Chu decided to set out with a large army, taking his concubines to the Wanhe Palace to escape the heat.

Once at the palace, a large number of officials followed, even Empress Dowager Wang accompanied, unable to bear the heat. There at Wanhe Palace, nestled by the lake and close to the mountains, was a picturesque scene, perfect for escaping the summer heat.

Empress Dowager Wang also invited Song Ci, but Song Ci was unable to join this time. After all, Madam Song was due to give birth soon, and she needed to stay at home to oversee everything.

However, they did hear that Princess Consort Ji went with two concubines, but as for Prince Min’s Princess Consort?

Isn’t she still in mourning? Then perhaps it’s best for her to just stay quietly at the mansion.

Upon hearing this, Song Ci couldn’t help but mock, expressing that Princess Consort Ji truly had no regard for Prince Min’s Princess Consort. It seemed she didn’t consider that disrespecting the Official Wife meant disrespecting her son as well?

Really foolish.

By late June, the entire Song Mansion was in a state of tension, especially the main courtyard, where everyone was on high alert. Two midwives, who had been residing in the mansion for some time, stayed by Madam Song’s side without a moment’s respite, checking her belly and making sure the fetus was in order.

However, Song Ci felt a subtle sense of unease because she observed that the fetus was overly active.

”Isn’t being active a good thing?” Lin Qing was puzzled.

Song Ci shook her head. ”Near delivery, if the fetus is exceedingly active in the mother’s womb, it becomes more likely for the umbilical cord to wrap around the neck. Just think, being lively and turning somersaults in there, what if the cord wraps around the neck, then...”

”Madam!” Nanny Gong turned pale and halted her speech.

It’s unwise to say such ominous things as the good doesn’t come true but the bad does, and that could be disastrous.

Lin Qing was also frightened. She had never heard such a reason before. She had heard about umbilical cords wrapping around necks but didn’t know that excessive activity could lead to such a situation.

”What should be done?” Lin Qing asked, furrowing her brow. ”I’ve noticed that Madam Song’s fetal movements have been more frequent these days, but the midwife says the position is still correct.”

Song Ci sighed. ”That’s my second concern, fearing that the child moves too frequently; if its head and feet get turned around, it would be fatal.”

Breech birth can be unbearable for anyone.

”A’Qing, can you try giving her a few acupuncture treatments so that the fetus doesn’t move too frequently, allowing it to rest without frequent turning? Reduce the major movements,” Song Ci suggested. ”Nanny Gong, please instruct the small kitchen in the main courtyard to prepare lighter dishes these days, and have the midwife keep a close watch on the fetal position. Also, do not show any worry in front of Madam Song.”

”Understood.” Nanny Gong replied.
