The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 837: Chapter 837: The Prestige of the Grand Madam

Chunhui Hall.

Song Ci fingered the cold prayer beads in his hand and looked at Mrs. Lu seated below, saying: ”The Emperor will bestow a noble concubine, which I hadn’t anticipated. Originally, I thought that having many concubines wasn’t a good thing, as it affected the children’s disposition. But now, it seems that having one more, and especially one from the palace, may not be entirely a bad thing. You need to be more open-minded.”

Mrs. Lu sat on the corner of her chair, replying sideways: ”Mother, the lessons from the palace nanny are imprinted in my heart. I dare not misunderstand. As you said, having one or two more is not a big deal. Rest assured, I know what to do.”

She appeared calm, without a hint of resentment or displeasure. Song Ci sighed inwardly; this third son of the Song Family had recklessly pushed away the person most devoted to him.

”It’s good that you understand.” Song Ci said lightly: ”I’m not boasting, but the Emperor needs our Song Family, he won’t allow chaos in our family. The person bestowed must have been carefully chosen. Even for the sake of me and our eldest, he won’t let an unruly person into our household. So, this Miss Shen, you needn’t fear she’ll be another Mrs. Bai. If she can earn some favor from Mrs. Bai, you’ll find peace in it.”

Most importantly, if Miss Shen can keep the third Song son from making foolish mistakes, that would be reassuring.

Mrs. Lu nodded.

”Although Miss Shen is a gift from the palace, a concubine is still a concubine. Even if she holds ranks, she’s still a concubine and cannot surpass you. As the official wife, stand firm yourself, and the child will stand firm as well; it’s up to you.” Song Ci glanced at her and said: ”As I’ve said before, if the third branch’s chaos crosses my line, I can separate your branch from the family.”

Mrs. Lu stood up, looking anxious, and said: ”Mother, I will definitely keep this in mind.”

”Mm.”

At that moment, Chun Fen announced from the doorway that Aunt Shen had returned.

”Let her in.”

Miss Shen entered with her head slightly bowed, curtseyed to Song Ci and Mrs. Lu, informing them that Aunt Bilu had already left, then stood behind Mrs. Lu.

This action caused Song Ci to relax a bit in expression.

Knowing the rules is good; knowing one’s identity also means knowing the rules; it saves trouble.

”Miss Shen, since you’ve already paid respects to the Lady and the master, and have also formally passed through me, from today onward, you are part of the Song Family.” Song Ci looked at Miss Shen, saying: ”In the Song Family, we never bully the good out of fear of the evil. We’ve always conducted ourselves so that if someone respects us a foot, we respect them a yard. In your future dealings outside, remember this principle; don’t act overbearingly simply because you are a member of the Song Family, nor should you be timid or fearful. We do not cause trouble, but neither do we fear it. If the Song Family needs to discipline someone, it will be done in accordance with our family rules. Understand?”

Miss Shen stepped forward, knelt down, her head bowed, and said: ”I humbly accept the great lady’s teachings.”

”One must always conduct oneself in accordance with one’s status, always remember it, remind oneself of it, doing so will ensure that life isn’t too hard. You are a noble concubine of the third master of the Song Family, respect the lady, serve the master, this is your duty. The Song Family never mistreats those who are dutiful and contribute to the family. If you are sincere towards the Song Family, it will support you for a hundred years, ensuring you do not end up alone and destitute. But if you create disputes, disturb the peace of the family, regardless of your being a palace gift, I will deal with you according to family law! Do you accept what I say now?”

Miss Shen, prostrate on the ground, replied clearly: ”I accept, and will certainly follow the teachings of the great lady and madam!”
