The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 812: Chapter 812: Bro, Your Eyes Are Glittering

To fool a kid about the same age as his little brother, Song Lingzhao figured he was quite adept. Oh, it wasn’t fooling, rather enlightening.

Moreover, he had attended Song Ci’s classes himself, so he just needed to convey her elder’s views directly.

So, Song Lingzhao cleared his throat and, in one breath, relayed everything Song Ci had ever said, except some matters regarding the military.

Xia Qie felt a bit strange, how could people’s grandmothers be so different? His grandmother never talked about such profound principles; all she did was encourage him to play, eat, and do whatever he liked.

And his mother, she was always worried he might melt or break; at the slightest discomfort, she’d start crying sadly.

Xia Qie looked at Song Lingzhao’s bright and handsome face, sighed inwardly, people are indeed different, and the kind of family raises the kind of children.

”What’s wrong, don’t you like hearing it?” Song Lingzhao eyed him sideways.

Xia Qie shook his head, saying with some emotion, ”Second Brother Song, your grandmother treats you like an adult.”

Only when someone sees you as an adult would they discuss such profound truths with you.

Song Lingzhao was stunned.

”You’ll surely live a very free and joyful life in the future.” Xia Qie said with envy in his eyes.

Song Lingzhao said, ”Anyway, these principles are laid out here, you shouldn’t feel guilty. Just think, if she were still here, maybe your sisters would have been in trouble, they might have completely fallen into the Abyss. Though it’s said that the dead are esteemed, to speak a little disrespectfully, that aunt of yours, she brought it upon herself. Dying to gain the title of a chaste and virtuous woman was her own fulfillment and shielded many women of the Xia clan.”

A death of one compared to many, there’s a reckoning.

Xia Qie didn’t feel sorry for that woman, only guilty towards his cousin. Hearing Song Lingzhao’s words, he let go of his guilt.

Enough, at most he’d stand up for his cousin Ying in the future.

...

After dining at Yinyue Building, Song Lingzhao was about to leave, and Xia Qie followed him, keeping a certain distance as if deliberately.

Seeing this, Song Lingzhao said, ”If you’re going to follow, take a step forward. What’s this sneaking around like you’re catching a thief.”

Xia Qie grinned and hurried up to walk beside him.

The two chatted idly while strolling through the street vendors’ stalls, then saw someone in the attire of the Ministry of War officials riding by towards the city gate.

Song Lingzhao’s eyes shifted. He told Xia Qie to return home by himself while he had someone bring him a horse to follow them.

Xia Qie: ”...”

He was abandoned so heartlessly just like that.

”Follow him,” he gritted his teeth, motioning for a guard to bring a horse to carry him.

Ahead at the city gate, a notice wall was already surrounded by a crowd of citizens. Song Lingzhao tossed the horse’s rein to a footboy and squeezed into the front.

On the notice wall, two officials had already posted an announcement from the Ministry of War.

He went up to examine the content and his eyes lit up faintly.

The annual recruitment season had arrived again, calling men aged fourteen and above, with wages higher than before. This announcement would be distributed to all townships and counties, and the registration would end in August.

Song Lingzhao felt a surge of excitement, licking his lips.

”Pfft, I thought it was some big event, just recruitment, but why are you looking at it like a beauty, Second Brother Song, your eyes are shining!” Xia Qie, upon seeing the content of the announcement, accidentally caught a glimpse of Song Lingzhao’s expression. He couldn’t help but say, ”You wouldn’t want to sign up for the army too, would you?”
