The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 816: Chapter 816: Now You’ve Got Me All Confused

Song Zhiqing, having mingled in officialdom for years, knew Lu’s little schemes all too well. Hearing her deliberately ignore Bai Shuilian and her children, he felt a bit uncomfortable inside.

She is the Lady of the house as well, yet she was acting so petty.

But thinking about how he needed something from her, he suppressed his irritation and said, ”That is true. Let the four of us go then.”

On hearing this, Lu beamed and said, ”Then Zhou’er and the others will surely be delighted. I will have someone inform them to come over.”

As she stood up, Song Zhiqing pulled her back, saying, ”No rush, let us talk for a while.”

Lu sat back down.

Song Zhiqing fiddled with her hair bun and said, ”Dear Xin, following me all these years has surely been hard on you.”

Like performing a trick, he took out a jade phoenix tassel hairpin from his sleeve and placed it in her hair bun: ”I bought it while passing by Shangbao Pavilion, it suits you well.”

Lu was momentarily stunned, reached out to touch it, and looking at the exquisite hairpin, felt a sweetness in her heart, saying coquettishly, ”We have been married for ten years, why bring this up now?”

”Is it not because seeing Second Brother easily obtain an official position, I felt something?” Song Zhiqing sighed as he held her, ”Back then, I studied diligently for ten years before I could become a Scholar and earn an official position, also allowing you to have an Imperial Decree. But what about Second Brother? It was only because Zhao’er casually saved the precious treasure of Prince Wang’s family, that the Emperor rewarded him with an official post, and Second Sister-in-law also received a decree, wasn’t it easy?”

Lu felt somewhat conflicted, indeed, it was really easy. In the past she could still console herself that she had an Imperial Decree, and even though Jiang was the legitimate wife, she was just the daughter of a merchant.

But now, Jiang is truly a winner in life.

With both sons and daughters, a generous dowry, her family’s only daughter meaning it all comes down to her and her children in the end, her husband devoted to her wholeheartedly, and now she also has a decree.

Wealth and fame, a loving husband, filial children, a life can only be considered complete, who wouldn’t envy it?

Lu dryly said, ”It’s all fate, how can it be compared?”

Comparing people is like comparing to death.

Now she can only hope her pair of children will make her proud in the future, as for her husband, it’s best not to expect too much.

”Fate? Is it not because they are legitimate and I am illegitimate?” Song Zhiqing laughed at himself and said, ”If I were the legitimate son, how could the old lady not plan for me? Unfortunately, I didn’t crawl out of her belly, otherwise, my achievements wouldn’t just stop here, even your Imperial Decree wouldn’t just be a Fifth Rank honor.

Lu felt a stir in her heart, pursed her lips without speaking.

”Dear Xin, at this age, I’ve finally understood it clearly, birth signifies achievement, and also signifies glory. The heights our third branch can reach in the future will depend on the children.”

Lu was so excited she almost jumped up, wanting to shake his shoulders and shout three times: My lord, you are finally clear-headed!

But just as she was happy for a moment, she calmed down. Wait, several children, there are no three without four, does this also include those birthed by that wretched woman?

Lu said, ”Since you can see this, our third branch naturally won’t fall short. Why else would I have you value Zhou’er more? It’s not my pettiness that wants to suppress Xiao Wu and the others, but the difference between legitimate and illegitimate. Every family focuses on nurturing legitimate children. Everything I do is for the prestige and future of our third branch.”

Song Zhiqing’s body stiffened.

How was he to respond to this, why did it inexplicably feel like an implied criticism?

He licked his lips and said, ”What you say is very true, but dear Xin, can a single tree support a collapsing building? Can Zhou’er, a single legitimate son, be supported alone?”

Lu looked at the hairpin, her voice as quiet as a mosquito, shyly said, ”Then, have another one?”

Song Zhiqing: ”...”

You’ve left me speechless.
