The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 834: Chapter 834: Seventh-Rank Shen Family Member

Chunhui Hall.

Song Ci looked at Biluo sitting on the embroidery stool with a smile on her face.

”...In addition to Doctor Song, a few other officials have also been rewarded. The Lady Empress thought of you, Madam, so I boldly requested this favor, personally bringing Nanny Shen to your esteemed residence. Firstly, it’s to greet you on behalf of the Lady Empress, and secondly,” Biluo covered her mouth with a handkerchief and smiled, ”secondly, I haven’t left the palace for a long time, so this is a good chance to take a little break and relax.”

Song Ci smiled and said, ”The Lady Empress is too kind, I am undeserving of such honor.”

”Madam, you are too modest. The Emperor holds you in high regard, and the Lady Empress knows this, respecting you as if you were her own aunt.”

Song Ci repeatedly said she did not deserve it, but thought to herself that those trained in the palace indeed knew how to speak well.

However, thinking about the bestowed Noble Concubine, was the Emperor doing this to upset Old Song the Third or to plant a spy in the manor?

Or perhaps both?

Song Ci’s gaze fell on the woman named Shen Yulu beside Biluo.

It was the height of summer, and Mrs. Shen wore the currently popular summer clothes, a very elegant and graceful lake blue, with blue satin and gold-threaded cords. The intertwined collar was embroidered with bamboo patterns, the slanting lapel adorned with intricately carved copper buttons, and the hem embroidered with butterflies among flowers, whereas her feet...

Song Ci looked at the nearly hidden feet, pointed and delicate, her pupils narrowed, she glanced at Palace Nanny.

Were those three-inch golden lotuses?

The latter’s expression did not change, she merely scratched the back of her hand slightly with a finger.

Song Ci sighed inwardly, a palace maid with three-inch golden lotuses, and her face was long, with lightly painted red lips, a delicate nose, and a pair of slender phoenix eyes, her hair styled in a Flying Bun, adorned with a jewel-studded hairpin.

”Where did this Nanny Shen serve in the palace before? How old are you this year?”

Mrs. Shen stood up and curtseyed gracefully, ”In response to Madam’s inquiry, I am twenty-six this year. In my youth, I served at Chuxiu Palace, and before leaving the palace, I was the Chief of Records at the Bureau of Honors.”

The Bureau of Honors, responsible for ceremonies and daily affairs, Chief of Records, official rank of seventh grade.

Biluo smiled and said, ”Yulu not only has impeccable manners, but she is also skilled at hairstyling. Even our Lady often requests her to do it, and she is also adept at needlework. Oh, Yulu, didn’t you also make a pair of shoes for Madam?”

Mrs. Shen took a pair of shoes from her bundle and presented them to Palace Nanny, who received them with a bit of amazement.

Song Ci also looked over; it was a pair of Five-Bats-for-Longevity shoes, the sides embroidered with four red silk-threaded bats, a large bat at the toe, and the middle of the shoe mouth embroidered with a round ’Longevity’ character, embedded with a pearl facing the bat’s head.

These were soft indoor shoes, meticulously crafted and exquisitely embroidered, of which even Song Ci had to praise, ”It must have taken a lot of effort to make these, wouldn’t you say?”

She took them and casually put them on her feet, astonished to find they fit perfectly.

Mrs. Shen straightforwardly said, ”I knew I would be residing with the Song Family, so I requested your size from Lian Qiao at Cining Palace and made these shoes over several days. The craftwork is rather rough, making Madam laugh.”

She did not hide anything.

”You have been thoughtful.” Song Ci thought for a moment and said, ”You are not that old, has your family already...?”

Mrs. Shen shook her head with a smile, ”I am an orphan, entered the palace at five, and have long had no family members.”

Therefore, she had no relatives to take her back home for retirement; her future would either be to die in the palace or leave as an Official Concubine.

She chose the latter.
