The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 845: Chapter 845: Do You Dare to Go?

Once Madam Song left, Song Ci patted the large winter melon beside him and said to Nanny Gong, ”You see her, she’s quite good at scheming for our children’s sake.”

Nanny Gong disagreed and said, ”Family alliances are common in almost every noble family; Madam wants to maintain the close relationship between the Song Family and her maiden family. Naturally, the best way is to make another generation of connections, and it shouldn’t be called scheming. It’s more about considering the interests of both sides.”

Song Ci felt a bit choked and said awkwardly, ”Why doesn’t she plan for Su’er, but insists on scheming for the two nephews?”

”The Prime Minister wouldn’t allow it.”

Song Ci: ”...”

She glanced at Nanny Gong and said quietly, ”You’re not standing by my side anymore?”

Nanny Gong responded speechlessly, ”The old servant is just discussing the matter objectively. As people say, the relationships by marriage are deeply entwined, and even if they’re not her direct nieces, there are still the sisters-in-law from the maiden family, distant relatives, and so forth. What’s certain is that as long as none of the young gentlemen have been engaged, there will be people inquiring. Madam’s thoughts are easy to understand; it’s just that fertile waters shouldn’t flow to outsiders. The old servant thinks that if the girl is good enough, there’s nothing wrong with marrying her.”

Song Ci felt a bit guilty and pointed out the window, saying, ”The weather outside is quite nice. After breakfast, let’s go to the Water Pavilion for a boat ride. Let’s ask Lin Qing if she’s free; she shouldn’t bury her head in medical research all day long, or she’ll end up stifled.”

Nanny Gong couldn’t stop smiling: ”As you wish.”

...

Being talked about, Song Lingjie sneezed twice. He rubbed his arm, feeling as if he’d been noticed by someone.

He rubbed his nose and cautiously sealed the medicine ball in beeswax, preserving both its efficacy and fragrance. Then, he wrapped it tightly in a layer of oiled paper, each a small piece the size of a pinky finger.

After completing this step, he took out a hollow silver bell, placed the beeswax inside, squeezed it tightly, and then threaded it with a double-strand red string.

Once finished, he looked at the item in his hand for a while without speaking, took an exquisitely crafted wallet, packed it inside and secured it on himself.

He then glanced to the side of the table, opened a book, and took out the identity documents and household registration slip that were sandwiched inside, touched them lightly, and sighed.

”Hey, brother.”

Song Lingzhao shouted from outside, and Song Lingjie quickly clamped the documents in the book, turned his head to look at his eldest brother appearing at the door.

”Why are you yelling again?”

”Well, have you made the arrangements or not? It’s already mid-June, and I should be setting out now, don’t you think?” Song Lingzhao asked softly.

Song Lingjie felt a bit sad.

”You’re itching to run away from home, aren’t you? Not a speck of longing for Dad, Mom, me, or little sister!”

That melancholy and sorrow made Song Lingzhao shiver, quickly clasping his hands together, ”Please don’t act like this, I can’t handle it, I beg you as your older brother.”

Song Lingjie snorted and said, ”I’ve inquired and found out that Aunt is already in her childbirth period, probably due this month.”

Song Lingzhao’s eyes lit up, his eyes shifted, and he asked, ”So, where should I go?”

”West,” Song Lingjie replied without hesitation, ”Head towards the regions in Longzhong.”

Song Lingzhao paused: ”Head west?”

”You’re going to enlist, so naturally you need to carve out a career. Longzhong, located in Gansu, often has incursions from the Western Barbarians, and as long as there’s conflict, there’s a chance to go to war, which means it’s the easiest place to gain military merits.” Song Lingjie looked at him and asked, ”However, it’s barren and tough there, with extremely poor conditions, and lifestyle habits greatly differ from those in the capital. Given this, do you dare to go?”

Song Lingzhao’s gaze was bright; he had learned both literary and martial arts, sold his talent to the Emperor’s family, was there any reason not to go?
