The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 391: Chapter 391: The Return of the Concubine Daughter

Just two days before Song Zhiyu’s wedding, the Prime Minister’s Mansion’s grand-aunt returned with her children.

”What, Song Zi?”

Song Ci didn’t react at first until Nanny mentioned the grand-aunt, and only then did she remember who this Song Zi was.

She was the concubine-born daughter of this identity and the dragon-phoenix twin of Song Zhiqing, the only grand-aunt of the second generation of the Song Mansion.

”Where did she marry again?” Song Ci quietly asked Nanny.

Nanny looked at her with an inexplicable expression and said, ”Have you forgotten again? The grand-aunt married the second son of the Lin Family from your hometown in Yu Hang, Lin Guangxiong. After marrying, she followed him to Huzhou where he served as Assistant Governor.”

Song Ci pretended to laugh, ”I’m old, and it’s been a long time since I saw her, I truly forgot.”

”This old servant thinks grand-aunt returned to the capital firstly to attend Fourth Master’s wedding banquet, and secondly because her husband’s term has ended and he’s been reassigned to the capital,” Nanny said.

”Oh.”

Nanny glanced at her and smiled, ”Speaking of which, the grand-aunt was the only girl of the Prime Minister’s generation, and you, Madam, showed her some leniency. You taught her with great care as if she were your own daughter, making others envious.”

”Me?” Song Ci pointed at herself. The original old lady would still have a good relationship with a concubine-born daughter?

Nanny said, ”The grand-aunt indeed had a clever heart, being well-rounded in her dealings and as the only girl, she indeed received some extra favor.”

Song Ci understood.

This uniqueness was indeed precious, she naturally understood.

Just as they were speaking, a maid came in to report the grand-aunt had arrived and lifted the curtain further.

Song Ci straightened her posture and looked towards the door.

”Mother, your unfilial daughter, Song Zi, has returned.”

The voice preceded the person.

Song Ci’s mouth twitched, thinking that each child’s first meeting introduction was basically this sentence.

The doorway darkened as someone walked in, quickly coming to Song Ci’s side, then knelt down with a thud, grasped Song Ci’s hand, and began crying, ”Mother, Zi has returned to receive your punishment.”

Song Ci’s body stiffened, instinctively wanting to withdraw her hand, but it was held tightly. Soon, she felt her hand becoming wet.

Goodness, surely tears and snot had been wiped onto her hand?

Song Ci felt a bit squeamish and said, ”Stop crying. You’ve used my hand as a handkerchief for your tears and snot.”

The crying paused.

Song Zi looked up in surprise, her eyes misty with tears, full of longing and guilt, asking, ”Mother, are you upset that I returned late?”

Song Ci lowered her head and saw a slightly fuller face with tears, long slender almond eyes, a delicate nose, and cherry lips.

Suddenly, a memory emerged in Song Ci’s mind of a much slimmer and more beautiful face, gradually overlapping with this young woman before her, aligning perfectly.

”You’ve gained weight!”

Song Ci blurted out.

Song Zi: ”...”

Her throat tightened, she started to choke up.

Nanny covered her forehead, actually hitting where it hurt; why mention weight upon meeting.

Song Ci belatedly tugged at the corner of her mouth and said, ”Get up and speak, don’t just kneel and cry.”

Song Zi, somewhat at a loss, wondered why her stepmother seemed so different after an illness?

Did she feel like a completely different person?

A trace of doubt flashed through Song Zi’s eyes, which Nanny noticed and said, ”Grand-aunt, please rise. After Madam’s illness, she can’t stand people crying all the time.”

Upon hearing this, Song Zi immediately stopped crying and stood up without waiting for Song Ci to speak, sitting beside her, her face full of guilt, ”Mother, it’s Zi’s fault. You were ill, and I couldn’t return in time to visit. Punish me, for I am an unfilial daughter!”
