The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 375: Chapter 375: Enjoying the Palace Drama Together

On the Emperor’s birthday, the whole nation celebrated, and everyone offered their congratulations.

Song Ci sat properly in the Cining Palace, adorned in full ceremonial attire, watching the concubines and noblewomen exchanging verbal barbs. She thought to herself, palace intrigue, indeed, its reputation is well deserved.

Look at these young ones, every single one of them is like they’ve trained their tongues to be made of steel. They’re like little cannons, shooting off words with such sharpness, each one more adept than the last.

When it comes to the art of verbal confrontation, it’s about insulting you in a roundabout way, so you can’t tell, or if you do, you can’t rebut.

Song Ci felt she learned something.

She watched with great interest, but Empress Dowager Wang found it irritating and said, ”Seeing these young ones, sharp with their words, makes me feel, along with you, Aci, that we’re getting old.”

Song Ci: ”...”

You can say you’re old and I won’t argue, but do you have to include me? Thank you!

In my heart, I’m still a young lady who loves handsome men.

Simple girl?

Song Ci forced a smile and said, ”Your subject is old, but Empress Dowager, you still seem like you’re just over forty, like sisters with the other ladies of the palace.”

Goodness, she praised Empress Dowager Wang but subtly insulted the young concubines.

Madam Song is indeed bold!

Who dares to counter that?

Can anyone argue that Song Ci’s comparison was poor, implying Empress Dowager Wang is actually quite old?

Considering Song Ci’s past capability to retort, no one dared to challenge her words at that moment.

Even though the ladies of the palace were displeased, they didn’t dare object and instead followed Song Ci’s words, saying, ”Madam Song is right, Empress Dowager, you look no different from us, you are young indeed.”

Empress Dowager Wang said, ”All your mouths seem to be coated in honey, sweet indeed, but I don’t believe your words.”

Everyone: ”...”

How else can we flatter and praise you to make you happy!

Song Ci secretly laughed at Empress Dowager Wang being straightforward, yet she said, ”Lady, whether you believe it or not, you have to, or else they’ll all cry.”

The Empress Dowager could ignore others, but not Song Ci, so she said, ”Then I shall believe it.”

You might as well not have responded!

Empress Gongsun stepped forward with a smile to smooth things over, looking at Song Ci and said, ”Speaking of which, congratulations to Madam Song, you’ll soon have a daughter-in-law.”

Song Ci immediately stood up, saluted the Empress Dowager and Empress Gongsun, and said excitedly, ”Replying to Your Majesty, you don’t know how much I’ve worried about that kid’s marriage, I’ve gotten quite a few white hairs from it, fearing he’d stay single. Thanks to the blessings of the Heavenly Family, I was able to settle this important matter, otherwise, I might still be searching everywhere for a suitable young lady.”

Consort Fan pressed her mouth with a handkerchief and said, ”I heard Song Si is very satisfied with this marriage. He boasts outside about his good fortune and noble destiny. Indeed, among all the well-born young men in the Capital, it’s him that’s been chosen! By the way, Madam, I heard you’ve known Commandery Princess Dongyang for a while?”

Everyone’s gaze immediately turned to her.

Song Ci, as if spurred on by the challenge, felt a surge of excitement.

They finally targeted her with their palace intrigues.

Song Ci smiled and said, ”Isn’t it what they call a match made in heaven? On her first day in the Capital, Commandery Princess Dongyang saved my son, and then they met a few more times by chance. I thought at the time, such a heroic woman, I wonder whose family she will marry into. I never expected my son, truly blessed by the Emperor’s fortune, would be granted marriage with Commandery Princess Dongyang. Oh my, when the imperial decree arrived that day, I found myself looking up at the sky several times, wondering if a huge pie had fallen and hit the Song Family.”

A laugh burst out.

Someone couldn’t help but chuckle.
