The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 374: Chapter 374: This Commandery Princess Is Here to Crush on His Looks

After the champion’s parade ended, Song Zhiyu and his friend Bao Chengxuan, Bao Datong, left the teahouse.

”Aren’t you afraid that confronting Fan Qi like that will make him hold a grudge?” Bao Datong asked, looking at him with great interest.

Song Zhiyu looked at him as if he were a fool and said, ”These idlers in the capital, have you ever seen me afraid of anyone? And Fan Qi, what’s so special about him? He’s just strutting around because his grandfather is the Prime Minister.”

Bao Datong mumbled, ”As if you don’t strut around because of your elder brother.”

Song Zhiyu chuckled, ”Well, that’s right. I used to strut around because of my elder brother. Now it’s different; I can strut around because of my wife.”

Bao Datong: ”...”

It felt like this kid was showing off, so annoying.

”Are you serious about this? Are you really happy with this marriage arrangement?”

Song Zhiyu was silent for a moment, then returned to his carefree demeanor and said, ”Of course I’m happy. A win-win situation without effort, do you think everyone is this lucky? Look at the scholars who just paraded; how many come from poor families? Even those from official families are often unnoticed. Why do they work so hard to pass the exams? Isn’t it to stand out and for future wealth and status?”

”But such wealth and status, I can obtain effortlessly. I don’t have to start my day at the crack of dawn and network everywhere to land some cushy position. Tell me, am I happy or not?”

Bao Datong said, ”You make it sound easy, but what man doesn’t want to achieve something? Have you never thought about it?”

”Have you ever thought about it?”

Bao Datong paused, he thought about it, but wasn’t sure.

”I can’t succeed in academics or martial arts, so I never really thought about doing anything grand. I just feel that being ordinary isn’t so bad. Xuanzi, in a family like ours, some people don’t need to be overly ambitious.”

The tone carried a certain nuance.

Bao Datong looked at his friend, wanting to delve deeper.

But Song Zhiyu hooked his arm around Bao Datong’s neck, laughing as he said, ”Did I scare you with my profound appearance, wrapping my lack of learning and degeneration in such a noble excuse?”

Bao Datong: ”...”

The two walked away with arms around each other’s shoulders.

No matter if what Song Zhiyu said was true or false, he was right about one thing: some people don’t need to be overly ambitious. Not because of a destiny of wealth, but because there’s already someone in the family ambitious enough.

...

In the private room where Fan Qi was, those who hadn’t left yet looked at him, smiling as they flattered him and ridiculed Song Zhiyu.

”...Speaking of it, the Song Family has only been on the rise for about twenty years. That Prince Dingbei’s Mansion also comes from an unconventional background; it’s just that they had the good fortune to be granted a princely title by the late emperor. If not for that, who knows where they’d be. Song Si and the Commandery Princess of Dongyang are truly a perfect match. He dares to say the Commandery Princess favors him because of his looks and talent, but in reality, both families are cut from the same cloth, unlike you, Seventh Young Master, who come from a prestigious family.”

Fan Qi was still angry. Hearing this, he glanced at the person speaking and sneered, ”You sound loud now, why didn’t you dare to say anything earlier?”

The person felt a bit embarrassed and awkwardly laughed, ”It’s just that it wasn’t my turn to speak just now.”

Fan Qi snorted, stood up, and opened the door. As the door swung open, he quickly stepped back in fright, his mouth trembling.

The person badmouthing Song Zhiyu and Prince Dingbei’s Mansion earlier was so scared that he fell to his knees, his voice trembling, ”Com- Commandery Princess Dongyang.”

Niu Pan’er looked at the group of idlers in the room, her hands clasped behind her back.

She cast a sidelong glance at Fan Qi and the person on the floor, ”Indeed, Young Master Song is more handsome than all of you, which is why this Commandery Princess is fond of him, whereas none of you are.”

Commandery Princess, even if you’re smitten with his looks, please don’t insult us like that, okay?
