The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 366: Chapter 366: Keeping an Eye on the Person

Song Zhicheng had an unquestioning admiration for his elder brother.

No matter how shocked he was, if the eldest said that the third brother wasn’t foolish and could scheme, he believed it. After all, the eldest was an impressive Prime Minister, while he was a commoner.

Moreover, the eldest was truly a fox spirit, filled with endless wisdom and intricate thoughts, he surely must have already seen through the third brother’s intentions.

”All those in officialdom are old foxes, I don’t understand your fox-like cunning... Oh, elder brother, if you are a fox, you’re the Nine-tailed Fox, the most handsome one.” Song Zhicheng teased, grinning under the glance his elder brother shot him.

”Stop letting that foppishness possess you, it does no good.”

Song Zhicheng: ”...”

What happened to ’children should not speak of strange things’?

After making a playful remark, Song Zhicheng continued, ”Elder brother, so if the third brother isn’t foolish, is he using that Bai clan?”

”That Bai clan, as her name suggests, is like a lotus in water.” Song Zhiyuan said lightly.

Song Zhicheng scoffed, beauty is, after all, just a skin-deep, and there will come a time when one gets tired of it and it ages; it wouldn’t compare to a wife who manages the household and bears children.

”Are you saying he truly has some affection for that Bai clan, and it just so happens that he uses her as a pretense to show weakness and present a handle to you? Making you feel he is muddled. Ho, is he not afraid of backfiring?”

Song Zhiyuan laughed with a snort, ”He really wouldn’t be.”

”Ah, elder brother, do you intend to transfer him back to the capital for a position?”

Song Zhiyuan pinched his brow and said, ”This Bai clan is a distant cousin of Madam Luo, the wife of Magistrate Luo of Datong. But Magistrate Luo has a noble concubine, who is a daughter of the Marquis of Guangchuan.”

Song Zhicheng was taken aback.

”Marquis of Guangchuan is the maternal family of the Eldest Prince’s consort, and that noble concubine is the concubine-born aunt of the Eldest Prince’s consort.”

Although Song Zhicheng was not an official, he engaged in business; his intellect, though not comparable to his elder brother’s, was not dull either.

”Elder brother means Magistrate Luo wants to draw the third brother to the Eldest Prince’s side? No, not the third brother, but our Prime Minister’s Mansion?”

Song Zhiyuan said, ”Something like that.”

Song Zhicheng didn’t know what to say, is it a wonder the noble relations in the capital are so entangled?

”Is the elder brother afraid that the third brother will align himself too early, thus implicating our Prime Minister’s Mansion?”

Song Zhiyuan nodded, ”I’m afraid he might be too clever for his own good. After I rose to power, the fourth brother and Qi’er were subsequently married off, now our Prime Minister’s Mansion is at its peak, very much in the spotlight, and this attention will be drawn by even small disturbances, potentially turning into irreparable fatal wounds. I dare not gamble.”

Details determine success or failure; he had heard Song Ci tell a story about a nail, a tale with a rather deep moral.

From the moment the third brother took that Bai clan in, it indicated that someone has already started to infiltrate the Prime Minister’s Mansion; the Bai clan is the first, there will be others.

Song Zhicheng fell silent.

”So elder brother is as he wishes, have him transferred back to the capital.”

Song Zhiyuan: ”It’s like pushing the boat with the current. Having him where I can see is better than being beyond reach.”

Song Zhicheng shrugged and said, ”All right, as long as you know what you’re doing, elder brother. It just means that our Prime Minister’s Mansion will be far from peaceful henceforth.”

With more people, naturally comes more commotion.

Song Zhiyuan’s voice was gentle, ”If the Prime Minister’s Mansion doesn’t have a ripple, it would actually make people uneasy.”

Song Zhicheng fell silent immediately; his instinct told him that this so-called person wasn’t just anyone, but the supreme one.

He immediately changed the subject, ”Elder brother, after the fourth brother gets married, should the hidden guards in the mansion go with him?”

Song Zhiyuan: ”I will have Qian Er serve as steward for him, turning dark into light.”

Song Zhicheng was astonished; Qian Er, that Deputy Commander?
