Hidden Marriage, Overbearing Love: Mr! Please Let Me Go

With a single glance, he saw the extraordinary nature of the chess pieces. Truly a talented individual!

”Grandfather, I have a friend who also really enjoys playing Chinese chess. He often talks to me about the history and development of the game, so I know a little about it too. I’ve seen pictures of the chess set in his computer, so I recognized it at first sight.” Xia Qingqian felt a sudden surge of superiority when the old man looked at her like that.

”During the Kangxi era, in Wujiadian Village of Pingquan Elm Tree Township, it was truly a chess village at that time. Almost everyone above the age of eight could play chess, and every household had skilled chess players.” Xia Qingqian remembered this especially clearly because Qiao Zhenyu was always boasting about his ancestors being chess players. He often claimed that his family also lived in Wujiadian Village.

”You even know this?” The old man’s eyes were filled with excitement.

This girl is not simple!

”I just heard others mention it and remembered.” Xia Qingqian said with a smile.

”Your friend must be really impressive. It’s so intriguing that even I want to compete against him.” The old man grew more excited as he spoke, his hands itching with eagerness: ”Come on! Play a game with Grandpa. Girl, you shouldn’t hold back just because I’m an old man!”

”Grandfather, I’m just an amateur!” Xia Qingqian said as she reached out to manipulate the chess pieces on the table.

The old man fell silent, furrowing his brow as he thought about his own matters. This girl identified the chess set’s origin at first sight, surely her chess skills are remarkable and not to be underestimated!

”I’m the elder, so I’ll let you go first.” The old man wanted to see how this girl would play, thinking of it as a strategy to know one’s opponent.

The old man spoke as he switched the red and black pieces, then made a gesture to invite Xia Qingqian to make the first move.

Xia Qingqian smiled, looked at the arranged chess pieces, and flipped one over.

An hour passed, with three games played and two wins needed for victory. The old man and Xia Qingqian each won one game, with one game remaining. The old man, seeing his own position, was sweating profusely.

He couldn’t help but grab a few tissues, carefully wiping the sweat off his forehead. His position was cornered; though not in check by Xia Qingqian, he had no legal moves left.

At this moment, Xia Qingqian retreated a step, giving the old man an opportunity to advance and put Xia Qingqian in check!

Xia Qingqian stifled a laugh.

”Good!” Applause suddenly broke the silence in the air as an excited voice rang out: ”Grandfather, you’re awesome! You won two games in a row!”

The old man chuckled, stroking his chin, his cheerful voice growing louder!

”When did you get here, cheeky girl?” the old man asked Beitang Huan, who had been watching from the side without anyone noticing.

”Haha! Grandfather, Ye Feng and I were here since you and Qian Qian started the first game!” Beitang Huan sat beside the old man, wrapping her arms around his neck, and said with a smile.

Beitang Huan also winked at Xia Qingqian, indicating she did well.

In fact, even a fool could see that Xia Qingqian was letting her grandfather win. Only the grandfather was oblivious!

”Qian Qian, we’ve been standing beside you for an entire hour now. I’ve only seen Grandfather and Brother Yao so engrossed in a game, I didn’t expect you and Grandfather to be the same!” Beitang Huan gave Xia Qingqian a thumbs-up, constantly praising her!

Xia Qingqian also stood up. After three intense games, her whole body felt like it was falling apart, aching all over.
