Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1285: Chapter 702: Departure

”So, do you understand? We need to take advantage of this moment to break the sacrificial ritual and rescue Hamlet, and even the whole world.”

Lance’s words are usually true, but he knows the art of language, he said everything yet said nothing.

These words also plunged Baldwin into deep thought, there is no doubt that being suddenly summoned at night means there’s an urgent situation. Facing the request of the Lord, he quickly responded.

”My life was saved by you, My Lord.”

”This battle is destined to be very difficult. You need to face not only powerful enemies but also the constant corruption that seeks to erode you.”

The horror of hell will leave indelible pain on your body and soul. Even if you come back alive, you may live in the shadow for the rest of your life.”

Lance did not immediately agree to his words, instead, he once again emphasized the terror of the Dark Dungeon, proactively providing him with a way out.

”To be honest, I saved you because I can feel that you are a true hero. The belief of not abandoning or giving up your comrades is great. I don’t want to see you suffering from illness and humiliation like this.”

But this has nothing to do with whether you join or not, because it is the responsibility of the Hamlet Family. It was their failure to defeat the Ascension Sect that led to the death of so many people.”

As the last member of the Hamlet Family, I have the responsibility to bear this blood debt, but I don’t want to force others to follow me. You have the freedom to choose, and I won’t blame anyone.”

”I am ready.”

Once Lance finished speaking, Baldwin solemnly agreed, feeling any hesitation would be a disgrace to the Lord.

Lance exchanged glances with him. In their eye contact, there was no trace of fear, and he nodded in agreement.

”Good! Go back and prepare, delegate your work to the others, we will depart tomorrow morning, time is not on our side.”

”Yes!”

Baldwin withdrew and Lance wasn’t surprised by his choice because he is the ”Benevolent King.”

Such a person needs to be praised. Though he has transcended ordinary desires, he still seeks recognition in spirit.

But who among those feudal lords and the Church would recognize him?

You must know that he assumed power at a young age, and with enemy armies at the gates, those old folks naturally wouldn’t comply.

Not to mention, many noble lords considered his attention to the common people as weak, as it meant sacrificing their interests, making them displeased long ago.

However, Baldwin’s capability is pretty decent, more importantly, he has exceptional military talent. He has won several victories and gained the support of the Order of Knights and ordinary people, suppressing those old folks.

All this until the leprosy spread panic in the Holy City. He personally visited the afflicted ordinary people and somehow contracted it himself.

This problem led to those old ones preparing to stir up rebellion, but Baldwin was ruthless and struck first while still somewhat physically capable.

It’s no exaggeration to say he quelled the rebellion single-handedly with one sword. You should know his original sword wasn’t broken, imagine how intense the battle was.

As for later being tormented by leprosy, knowing he lost the ability to govern the state, he straightforwardly stepped down and started a long migration with the lepers.

Many people followed the Crusade to the other side, wanting to return, but those patients didn’t have Baldwin’s constitution. It’s destined that only a few can make it to Hamlet.

Why is Lance so clear about this?

Because after confirming Baldwin’s identity, Lance started collecting related information, whether from Amanda or Alhazred, he could gather relevant information.

The so-called Crusade launched by the Church failed shortly after Baldwin left. The Holy City was seized, and the Church’s troops were scattered, with only a few able to retreat.

This is not a noble dispute but a religious one, with no mercy. It is unknown how many of Baldwin’s noble supporters escaped the rebellion’s reckoning or the wars with the heretics.

But this has little to do with Lance, recalling these things only because he knows how to deal with people like Baldwin.

The swift mobilization quickly alerted Grendel, she walked in with undisguised surprise in her expression and asked.

”Is there a new situation?”

After all, they just returned this morning and said a few hours ago that it would be two or three days. So why suddenly tomorrow?

Was there an urgent military report from the front? Or did intelligence personnel bring news of neighboring territories?

”It’s good news!” Since Lance was certain, he wouldn’t waste a word, immediately with great enthusiasm he reassured Grendel, ”I have discovered the true weakness of those cultists, dealing with them sooner lessens our pressure.”

Using what the Church left to seal the sacrificial ritual is indeed part of the ancestor’s plan, but the problem is [Heart of Flesh] is now in Lance’s hands. After taking down the second dungeon, the halted ritual will no longer provide any strength to the ancestor.

Simply put, it stops the ancestor’s pension.

However, Grendel did not feel joy because of this news, on the contrary, her expression grew more solemn.

”I went to see Boudica and Amanda, their conditions are not good. You just came back this morning, can’t you rest for one more day?”
