Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1271: Chapter 695: I Am the Flame (Final)

Clad in exquisite armor, wearing a robe with complex patterns, with a longsword planted in front.

A person dressed in luxurious clothing, holding a Holy Canon in one hand, and in the other, a uniquely designed short-handled weapon resembling a warhammer more than a magic wand.

A person with an exaggerated heavy armor, with a large shield and a warhammer standing beside.

Finally, someone in a simple linen monk’s robe, but while the others had turned into mummies, this one still retained a basic physical form.

He looked like a sleeping withered old man, yet he exuded the strongest power.

Whether it was the holy power constructing the sanctuary or the various cross patterns on their equipment, the most obvious was the spellcaster’s outfit, anyone could see that.

There was no doubt that these were legendary powerhouses of the church: a Knight, a Bishop, a shield bearer, and one unknown, but certainly there were four legendary figures.

It was precisely their power that forced the forefather to spend so much and even capture a Limping Walker just to seal them.

Indeed, the Limping Walker’s power was to devour light, and it was this trait that made the forefather select him.

But such an elaborate setup merely isolated and sealed them; it didn’t even break the sanctuary, showing the substance of the church.

”People from the church? Why are they here?” Amanda, unlike Boudica, realized this problem almost immediately upon seeing their attire and, with a strange expression, reminded Lance, ”That one is likely a saint of the church.”

”I wonder how they died?” Boudica showed some curiosity towards the mummies.

Audrey remained silent, but she was experienced enough to know that such high-ranking church members shouldn’t appear here. Yet she also understood she had no place to speak, knowing her limits prevented trouble.

”If the evil cult sealed it like this, it must be very dangerous. I’ll go investigate first, you all take a rest.”

Lance used their safety as a reason to make them distance themselves, his decision to adventure proactively moved everyone greatly, especially Audrey, who realized she didn’t actually enjoy adventures.

Of course, Lance said this only to keep them from coming into contact with those church things.

This is why Lance didn’t dare send more people in; too many eyes would complicate matters, making it difficult to conceal issues beyond his control.

No time for idle talk now, he had to brace himself and seize the warhammer.

Raising his hand toward the halo-covered area, surprisingly, the sanctuary’s power didn’t repel him.

Which made sense, as he was a mere mortal, not like those evil cultists whose flesh was corrupted and filled with evil aura.

Daring not to touch the ritual willy-nilly, he immediately locked onto the books.

A quick look revealed they were all church books, mostly containing supernatural equipment, more valuable than usual equipment due to recorded supernatural powers and esoteric knowledge.

Unfortunately, there was no mention of why these people appeared here.

Lance then picked up the scattered scrolls, piecing them together, finally discovering something.

”The empire is not the emperor’s empire, nor the nobles’ empire, but the church’s empire.”

This statement had circulated for long, indisputable, yet undeniable.

After all, whoever had control at the grassroots held actual power.

No matter how many times nobility changed on this land, the church remained, with no noble daring to challenge the church’s authority (except for the oddball Lance), as that was the path to ruin.

Similarly, when Hamlet was so prosperous, and vital as the empire’s outpost, naturally, its church matched its significance.

Back then in Hamlet, there was no need to mention those priests, nuns, and knights, as there were directly three legendary powerhouses, plus an even more powerful saint.

But interestingly, that saint wasn’t originally from Hamlet’s established church hierarchy, but happened to come here.

Unlike ordinary people who offered no resistance during the great calamity, the church’s power ensured they weren’t destroyed immediately, and their deep years of accumulated reserves allowed them to organize resistance.

The top experts in Hamlet City surely weren’t limited to them alone, the church acted like a torch held high in the dark night, gathering those fallen into darkness.

In this situation, some chose to break out, while the church’s choice was self-evident.

They had already sensed the terrifying power sacrificing the entire city, prompting their thorough investigation, ultimately, under the saint’s guidance, resolutely pressing forward.

The powerful yet terrifying power of the ritual was undisguised, and the church had heard the prophecy circulating in Hamlet, almost instantly locking onto the old mansion.

Back then, the Ascension Sect hadn’t fully developed yet, but numerous clergy fell on the road to the old mansion.

For the sacrificial ritual isolating heaven and earth suffused that area with evil, twisted, corrupting power.

Therefore, to combat that evil corruption, they had to ignite themselves to unleash the power of Holy Light and Holy Flame.

I am the flame!

This was a situation where, even as Lance read the words, he couldn’t help frowning; the church too conducted such cruel sacrificial rituals.

No one knew or counted the dead along the road from the church to the old mansion.
