Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1252: Chapter 685: I Am the Flame 1_2

Death Lash!

Boudica wanted to raise her axe spear to block in front, but those two tentacles held her tightly. Looking at the dense spikes, if they hit, the flesh would be scraped off.

”Puff!”

A muffled sound, a huge arrow directly shot into the priest’s head. The strong force above it was fully endured, causing the body to pause, disrupting the spike tentacle attack.

At this moment, Amanda also moved, tossing out a flying dagger imbued with supernatural power, accurately piercing into the priest’s body. The power bursting forth made the tentacle gripping the axe spear go limp.

Boudica seized this opportunity, exerted force to snatch back the axe spear, and swung it in a reverse grip, chopping downward.

The sharpened axe blade sliced through the delicate cloak, landing in the flesh, yet it was caught by the bone.

In battle, there must be no hesitation. The consequence of a stuck weapon is severe, so she directly kicked fiercely, using the force to pull out the axe spear.

The Heretic Priest was sent flying backward and crashed to the ground, the motion inflating the cloak and revealing the horrifying body wrapped within.

It had completely lost human form, resembling more a mass forcibly fused from flesh, bones, and various organs.

The limbs on the body were completely replaced by tentacles, holding the axe spear were hands, and its movement was not walking but sliding because the lower limbs had turned into octopus-like tentacles.

The body was covered in live flesh tones, but like many corrupted cultists, it was mostly covered in putrefaction, with scars resembling flesh dissolving and reconstituting after corrosive attacks.

The upper body was severely hunched, exaggerated to the point that what was originally the back had become the headtop, twisting the human torso into a ninety-degree angle.

The eerie part was the several skulls tangled among the flesh, indicating the priest’s passion for devouring.

There were no facial features like eyes, ears, or nose, defining it as a head purely due to a grotesque large mouth at the front, exposing strange teeth that recalled the Limping Walker.

Those purple tentacles must have emerged from there earlier, as they still held the arrow shot by Lance.

The previous attack didn’t cause it much harm; one lift of the tentacles and it stood up again, extracting the arrow and flying dagger with two thick tentacles, showing dexterity comparable to hands. The wounds and the cleaved head wound were all rapidly healing.

But by this time, Lance had already drawn the Wolf Fang from the void and charged forward. The Heretic Priest, hurriedly responding, wanted to wave its tentacles to block as before, but the sharpness of the Wolf Fang was unparalleled by mundane iron; this was the power of rules.

A slash cut off the tentacles, and perhaps realizing the danger, the Heretic Priest disregarded everything and charged forward with a swift strike.

No one could expect that what appeared to be the head part would split open, a bizarre spinal blade shot out from the back at an unthinkably fast speed.

Deep Sacrifice!

Even though Lance reacted, they were too close, and the tip, sharp as a blade, aimed at him.

”Waaagh!!!”

A roar suddenly burst forth, the power within failed to intimidate the priest, but the axe blade struck the spine with a metallic sound.

It successfully deflected the spinal blade originally aimed at Lance’s head, driving it into the torso, but it no longer had the power to pierce through his body.

At that moment, Lance understood why, as a priest, it chose close combat over spell-casting, because when the spinal blade was inserted, he felt an evil, eerie power trying to invade through the wound.

This meant that its every attack carried evil power, capable of corrupting the flesh and soul. This guy had been casting all along, but only on itself.

But Lance was utterly unafraid, tearing out the spinal blade from his chest with one hand and plunged the Wolf Fang into the heart exposed by the pulled-out flesh.

This sudden strike failed to kill Lance, dooming it to death.

It wasn’t only Lance; Boudica and Amanda also followed up, pouring power onto the priest, soon reducing it to a pile of rotten flesh.

Confidence surged in tides as the enemy crumbled!

”How did such a thing dare to charge up?” Lance couldn’t help but mock as he looked at it, having not even unleashed a sorcery.

”This guy is just pathetic looser!” Boudica kicked it, shouting wildly.

”Are you okay?”

Amanda looked at the wound left by the spine piercing Lance’s chest, a conspicuous tear in the clothing with blood seeping through.

Lance glanced down, his calm demeanor as though uninjured.

The spinal blade indeed wounded him, but Sanctuary shielded his soul from pollution, and the corrupting power was instantly shattered under Bless, with Flesh Reconstruction smoothing over the wound.

It could be said this injury healed instantly, without any impact.

Well, perhaps a little indeed...

”It messed up my clothes.”

Lance, slightly speechless, mocked as he casually sacrificed the corpse, feeling the boon within, balancing his mind a lot.

Truly, for a higher-up, the spiritual essence was abundant, incomparable to the cultists above, perhaps only matched by some other higher-ups.

The cultists cleared out from the old mansion had already replenished a batch, and now if these cultists were at this level, Lance couldn’t even estimate the gain from their sacrifice.

Sparing it bit by bit at the start, now Lance directly Blessed both Boudica and Amanda, refreshing their states.

”Let’s go, clear out those cultists before they react.”

Lance quickly adjusted the team’s condition, preparing to continue deeper into the dungeon, to explore the ancestor’s secrets.

Audrey, trailing behind, seemed like a spectator. She hadn’t taken action a moment ago, with a strong self-preservation instinct perhaps wanting to flee right away.

However, seeing Lance and the others dismantle the Heretic Priest effortlessly, an inexplicable pressure lifted from her heart.

It wasn’t clear if it was the effect of the Holy Water or her naturally big heart, but she quickly calmed down.

If the enemies could be knocked down, even killed, then maybe this damn place wasn’t as terrifying as she once imagined.

As she began to adapt to the environment and external pressure waned, she started pondering a question.

Would she make it out alive if she just took the potion and left?

People with complex thoughts are prone to paranoia, especially someone like her, a tomb robber habituated to the shadows, incredibly sensitive.

Too easy, to be let off just like that; she even suspected the antidote in her hand was fake, or poison, and drinking it would lead to sudden death.

Whether it was the red mist affecting her mind, or a natural affinity for such dominated feelings, once suspicion arose, even she struggled to control her thoughts, thinking Lance had been warning and threatening her...

When Lance and the others ended the battle, Audrey subconsciously followed, leading Amanda to quip.

”Finally woke up? I think you could go out and sleep slowly; we don’t need certain people here.”

”Coward, traitor!” Boudica rarely involved herself in conflicts between them, but she despised those who fled in battle.

Even honest Boudica couldn’t stand her; it spoke volumes about Audrey’s reputation in the team.

Audrey’s face was unsightly, setting the facts aside, didn’t they have any responsibility?

But now her life was in their hands, and no matter how upset Adik was, she could only endure silently.

”Enough, more hands make us stronger.” Lance glanced at the newcomer but just a cursory glance.

He didn’t know why Audrey followed, nor cared to understand.

She had served her purpose; without utility, she’s just a tomb robber. If she died here, perhaps it’d save him some trouble.

”Let’s go...”
