Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1277: Chapter 698: Exaggerated Gains

Lance is frighteningly strong; whether exhausted or under the stress of the dungeon, he woke up after just one or two hours.

What’s more outrageous is that upon waking up, he acted as if nothing had happened, not resembling someone who had just returned from the dungeon, not fatigued at all, and somewhat excited.

It’s important to know that others could rest intermittently while camping in the dungeon, but he never closed his eyes, which suggests his constitution is increasingly exceeding human limits.

Actually, Lance was too excited to sleep—who can sleep peacefully while holding a treasure?

Especially considering Lance’s compulsiveness; there was no time to examine things closely in the urgency of the situation, so how could he resist checking now?

Eagerly, he began to inventory the gains.

The raid on the old mansion, capturing the lair of the Ascension Sect, yielded a plethora of various items.

Primarily, there were the myriad devices, materials, and formulas in the Alchemy Room...

Currently, Lance doesn’t have the time for in-depth research but was able to scan briefly and sort them.

Many of the things the ancestor invented could benefit humanity; unfortunately, he chose the wrong direction, turning them into forgotten technologies, or the means of cultists.

There were too many items here. Lance’s knowledge of alchemy was average, so he first stored them away, waiting for experts to begin research.

Lance is not particularly fond of supernatural powers due to their uncontrollable nature and poor stability, which can easily cause problems—a headache for any ruler.

Yet, he doesn’t reject them because avoiding them in this world is impossible.

Grendel could casually make a sprout rapidly grow—a feat impossible even with the best fertilizers, which still require time.

So technology and the supernatural aren’t mutually exclusive; instead, they complement each other. Some things technology cannot achieve, at least for now.

With such a mindset, Lance places great importance on books, manuscripts, and scrolls as carriers of knowledge. One of the biggest gains from the old mansion was finding the Hamlet Family’s inherited books.

The entire library filled with books symbolizes heritage wherever it’s placed and contains numerous subjects: family history, world changes, continental anecdotes, aristocratic relations... A vast collection of relatively basic materials, including some autobiographies of family members.

Of course, there are the precious technical books; Hamlet was historically martial; otherwise, they wouldn’t have sustained themselves.

There were abundant related books covering everything from military training and combat to logistics management, creation of warfare props, and construction of military structures. Centuries of the Hamlet Family’s warfare experience systematically arranged here.

Although these cold weapon era military books are outdated now, with the advent of firearms, the role of knight charges has been increasingly minimized. The days when a few knights could scatter entire armies are gone for good.

Yet, much of the foundational knowledge is still beneficial for army development, especially logistics management and tactics strategy. Hamlet lacked systematic training, with most members from unconventional backgrounds.

With several shelves of books in the library, Lance wouldn’t be able to read them in detail, only glancing at their titles and categorizing them simply.

Primarily identifying those related to supernatural powers or indicating corruption.

As for the scrolls, most were drawings and various building blueprints. Lance also found plans for old Hamlet City and its sewers, though now these are of limited use to him.

But it’s clear that most of these books consist of general data with little unusual content.

The mysterious aspects weren’t deeply involved, so the ancestor didn’t prioritize them; otherwise, the library wouldn’t have been left untouched for years.

However, for Lance, these are invaluable, enriching Hamlet’s library, allowing students to access various knowledge and broaden their horizons.

Compared to these books and materials, Lance has little interest in the numerous antiques and jewels discovered in the old mansion, casually setting them aside after confirming no issues.

He views these items as money tokens, unnecessary for asserting his status.

Instead, the wealth of data collected from the laboratories, Observatory, and other sites earned his focus; without the ancestor’s threat, he might have been studying them already.

Lance has a habit of eating things he dislikes first, saving the best for last.

This habit influences him, meaning the seemingly plentiful gains are just appetizers—the real treasures are kept for later.

Because the butler was eliminated by him at the start, losing control led the Ascension Sect leaders to decide to store away the supernatural equipment initially intended as bait, as well as various bizarre items.

Lance swooped in to take them, naturally falling into his possession.

Pushed aside before due to time constraints, he now can properly inventory them.

Concerning the assessment of supernatural equipment, there hasn’t been a definitive standard, oppressed by the dominant church, restricting scientific advancement and supernatural force growth.

Even the Romu Organization, specifically focused on these matters, lacks a complete system, analyzing from the power, ability, side effects, and other aspects.
