Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1267: Chapter 693: I Am the Flame 9

At the very moment Audrey was sinking into despair, Lance appeared right in front of her. Before she could react, she suddenly felt weightless, and for no clear reason she was sent flying.

A brief moment hanging in the air, then she slammed into something—not hard ground, but...

”Ouch!”

Her whole body was dumped onto the floor, and the burst of pain snapped her fully awake.

Still the floor after all...

Except no one was paying her any attention; Boudica and Amanda were far more concerned with the battle ahead.

Those Heretic Priests, even under the influence, recovered quickly, so Lance dove in, grabbed her, and hurled her out, but ended up stuck inside himself.

Compared to Audrey, who was scared stupid on the spot, Lance looked oddly calm, even with a faint smile tugging at his lips.

How did you know I just burned through a ton of Spiritual Essence?

And you still came delivering yourselves to my door? That’s downright polite.

He didn’t look like the one being surrounded; if anything, it felt like he was the one surrounding these Heretic Priests.

The Heretic Priests weren’t about to humor him; they moved to attack immediately.

Lance had already realized it would be hard for him to fight multiple Priests at once, but the fact he dared stand here now meant he had his confidence.

I never said it was going to be me fighting you...

The next second, a thick tentacle swept in. The Bone Blade-like Bone Spurs along it carved across the bodies of those Heretic Priests, easily tearing away great sheets of flesh. If not for their warped physiology, if it had been a normal Priest or Witch, they’d likely have been cleaved clean in half.

Even so, that single strike was something they simply couldn’t withstand. Any Priest hit by the tentacle was sent flying outright—pure, overwhelming strength they couldn’t hope to bridge.

Probably only Lance, who’d studied the body structure of the Deranged Terror Demon... no, the Limping Walker as it should be called now, actually understood just how much power its massive frame could unleash.

The enraged Limping Walker plowed into the Heretic Priests, tentacles flailing like a reaper’s scythe through grain. It was pure, one-sided slaughter.

Once bound and reshaped, controlled like a puppet, the Limping Walker had finally broken the shackles laid on it, and its mad rampage was like a proclamation of its fury.

I was imprisoned... and you still came here to die!

Lance bolted the moment they started going at each other. In that kind of scene, if you don’t run, you just stay and wait to die?

He had just saved the Deranged Terror Demon, helped peel off the parasite and break the control.

But Lance didn’t think the Void Demons would thank him. Not that he needed their gratitude—this was all just to cause trouble for the old ancestor, and look, trouble’s here now.

So many Heretic Priests—Lance figured even if he went himself, he’d have to trigger the Black Armor to stand a chance. Now that he had a heavy hitter tanking at the front, he could just sit back, eat melon seeds, and watch the show.

Limping Walker versus evil cultists—this kind of spectacle you don’t get anywhere else.

Lance had no intention of joining this battle. He needed the Heretic Priests to bleed off the Limping Walker’s pent-up rage, stoke its hatred, and at the same time give him a chance to observe the thing’s combat strength.

From the look of it now, the thing was vicious as hell. Worth every bit of Spiritual Essence he’d burned.

However, while the Limping Walker’s attacks shredded the Priests’ flesh and could swat them away with a single casual hit...

The problem lay exactly there: for these Priests, whose bodies had completely shed their humanity, anything short of killing them outright meant no real loss.

At first, the Limping Walker charging in and going full-on hack-and-slash was satisfying as hell, catching the Priests completely off guard.

But they quickly adapted. Under the ”perfect” bodies granted by their so-called great blessing and modifications, they rapidly regenerated.

Individually, there was a gap in power, yes, but they had numbers on their side, and they were like cockroaches you just couldn’t squash for good.

Their speed—their attack speed—and every strike carried a curse, plus that Deep Sacrificial Finger Lance himself dreaded, all started to land on the Limping Walker.

Spinal Blades drove into the Limping Walker’s flesh, carving horrific wounds as the curse power began to flare. Worse still, multiple Priests were aiming their attacks at it at the same time.

Of course the Limping Walker fought back, casually whipping its tentacles to tear and fling them away, but all that retaliation looked a little pathetic against the Priests’ monstrous regeneration. Meanwhile, more and more Spinal Blades kept stabbing into the Limping Walker’s body.

One upside to that huge body was that it could take a beating, but even it couldn’t withstand a drawn-out war of attrition.

In a straight one-on-one, it could easily kill a Priest, but under this mass assault, the Priests could always get breathing room under their companions’ cover. The Limping Walker didn’t get that luxury.

In no time, you could see it starting to flag. Wounds opened all over its body, raw flesh hanging in great torn strips, blood pouring down in sheets—keep this up and the blood loss alone would drain its life away.

”We’re still not moving?”

Amanda had realized something was wrong too. If the Limping Walker died, how the hell were they supposed to withstand this many Priests?

Best move now was to clear out those Heretic Priests.

”Don’t rush. Its head just hasn’t cleared yet. Let it vent a bit more.”

Lance wasn’t anxious at all. In his eyes, the Limping Walker still hadn’t adjusted to being free of control, still relying purely on brute flesh to fight.

The Limping Walker’s condition dropped fast, its whole body covered in wounds, strange blood splashing everywhere.

The moment it faltered, the Heretic Priests seized the opening—several of them unleashing Deep Sacrificial Finger at once. Multiple Bone Spurs speared through the Limping Walker and hoisted it up, and when they were withdrawn, that massive body crashed to the ground.

Its grotesque head slammed into the earth with a dull thud, its mouth opening in a rasp that couldn’t form sound anymore. In its final moments, the eyes turned toward Lance, growing dim, as if quietly announcing its death...
