Beast Taming: I Can Add Points

The student was speechless.

Chen Xinghao retracted his gaze.

”It’s true they’re just mutts from a small city, but even mutts have teeth that can bite. The kids from Huai City First Middle School are full of surprises. If you underestimate them, you’ll definitely regret it.”

Wang Haokun’s mouth twitched.

As a victim, he had every right to speak on the matter.

The third and fifth rounds of the mock tournament were still fresh in his mind.

The little glass cannon that should have only been able to save itself with Flash Gold Teleportation had become a tank in Su Zhi’s hands, delivering a rude awakening to Grey Gu courtesy of the Flash Gold Sparrow.

And that bastard Yu Bao... not a single one of its Skills was what he expected, leaving him at a loss for what commands to even give. To top it off, it even had the nerve to make a meme reference with the final blow that took down Cyan.

Cyan had been depressed for days now. Whenever it saw videos related to basketball and overalls, it would recall the terror of ’one more look and you’ll explode,’ and start trembling all over.

It was a double whammy of physical and psychological damage...

”But it’s not a big deal. The element of surprise only works once. We’ve been eating, living, and training together this whole time. They won’t have any more unexpected trump cards.”

Chen Xinghao said coolly, ”Besides, we’ve been analyzing their tactics this whole time, haven’t we? The next time we meet, we’ll be prepared.”

The students who were about to compete nodded, but they all felt a wave of emotion.

In reality, the very fact that Huai City First Middle School had warranted their deliberate targeting was a victory in itself.

Across all of Shanyou Province, how many teams could make the team competition squad from Shanda University Affiliated School take them so seriously, even to the point of studying them as a hypothetical enemy?

...

”CHIRP!”

”Mm, okay.”

After washing up, Su Zhi rolled up his sleeves and held down Shan Bao’s head.

The daily head-rubbing session began—

[Pet Beast: Shan Bao (Flash Gold Sparrow)

Power: 1.00

Agility: 1.05

Intelligence: 1.04

Constitution: 3.06—3.20

Perception: 1.02]

[Real-time Energy Value: 2420]

The ten-day training camp was both a painful ordeal and a massive transformation.

Shan Bao’s Points also accumulated rapidly during these ten days, with an average of 0.10 Points added per day, allowing its Constitution to quickly reach a terrifying number.

This was the first Attribute to break 3.0 among all of Su Zhi’s Pet Beasts! For context, not a single one of Yu Bao’s stats had broken 3.0 yet!

”CHIRP!”

Shan Bao circled Su Zhi anxiously.

It had been all sorts of training these past few days, with barely any Pet Beast Battles, and she was getting antsy.

At first, Shan Bao didn’t think much of it; the feeling of quietly growing stronger was pretty nice too.

But then, after some guidance from the Wise One, Yu Bao, Shan Bao had an epiphany: ’What’s the point of getting stronger if you can’t show off!?’

’I really want to smash something right now to prove myself!’

”I know you’re eager, but don’t be. The selection trials are right around the corner. That’ll be your time to shine, don’t you think?”

With a smile as warm as a spring breeze, Su Zhi stopped Shan Bao’s attempt to wreck the house. At the same time, he shot a harsh glare at Yu Bao.

’Everything in this dorm is super expensive. If she breaks anything, we can’t afford to pay for it...’

”Woof.” Yu Bao tilted its head, its face a picture of innocence.

What bad intentions could a dog possibly have.jpg

”Stop just acting cute. Look at Shan Bao, making steady and rapid progress. And you, Yu Bao? You’re just getting more and more pathetic.”

”ARF!?” Yu Bao was not happy. It propped up its head and stared with wide eyes.

’This is called playing weak to eat the tiger, what do you know! Haven’t you seen how many points I’ve saved up!?’

Su Zhi crossed his arms. ”Don’t get it. All I get is that you’re pathetic.”

Yu Bao got anxious and started running circles around Su Zhi, insistent on explaining the principles of emotional manipulation and building anticipation. Even Su Zhi couldn’t help but chuckle.

[Pet Beast: Yu Bao (Yu Dian Farm Dog)

Power: 1.30

Agility: 2.26

Intelligence: 2.60

Constitution: 1.42

Perception: 2.85]

[Real-time Energy Value: 3990]

[Assignable Attribute Points: 1.04]

You couldn’t say its Attributes had improved much; in fact, you could say they hadn’t changed at all.

Of course, the amount of Points it had saved up was truly terrifying...

”ARF!” Yu Bao shot Su Zhi a sidelong glance.

’Just you wait! In a couple of days, I’ll add my points and pump you full of Energy, then we’ll see you squirm!’

Su Zhi crossed his arms. ”You’re right, but don’t forget I have a Tier Four Beast Taming Space now.”

He did a rough calculation. If Yu Bao spent all its points at once, its Real-time Energy Value would skyrocket by over a thousand, and it would instantly become Two-star on the spot.

If Su Zhi hadn’t awakened his Tier Four Beast Taming Space, he really would have been overwhelmed by Yu Bao’s energy surge.

’Alas, sometimes being too strong is a burden too~’

Shao Ya poked her head in. ”Su Baby, are you bullying Yu Bao again?”

Su Zhi shot her a look. ”The way you say that makes it sound like Yu Bao and I are both your Pet Beasts...”

Shao Ya blinked her eyes. ”You can be, if you want. I’ll save my next contract slot for you~ Xiaoyue is great at taking care of little brothers!”

”Meeeooww.”

”I’m ready, let’s go!” Liu Yuhang pushed open his bedroom door and waved at the two in the living room.

Then he added cautiously, ”By the way, I didn’t interrupt you two this time, did I?”

”...” Su Zhi was momentarily at a loss for how to respond. ’Wouldn’t answering that be admitting what happened last time? Seriously, is the class rep really that clueless...?’

”Ahem, let’s get going!”

Seeing that everyone was ready, Su Zhi decisively changed the subject, and they all left the room together.

Going to the Storm Strait to help Xue Li complete its second evolution—that was the most important task for tonight.

It was just that the hour was already quite late; they probably wouldn’t be back until the middle of the night. Fortunately, they had the day off tomorrow, so pulling an all-nighter didn’t matter.

”Thank you, everyone!”

On the way, Liu Yuhang clenched his fists. ”Coming out so late to accompany me, when I’ve always been the one dragging everyone down...”

Su Zhi patted his shoulder. ”Don’t sell yourself short. You’ve put in the work; you just need a chance to take off. This time, it’ll definitely work.”

”Go, Class Rep~ Go, Xue Li~!”

”This doesn’t sound like the opponent who crushed me in the city league semifinals.”

”Brother Yuhang, when you feel lost, perhaps you should think of my friend Su...”

”Never mind, just shut up.”

”QUACK!” Xue Li also patted its Beast Tamer’s shoulder.

’Didn’t you hear what Su Zhi said? Maybe failing to evolve the first time was a good thing. Don’t overthink it, just do it!’

Liu Yuhang nodded forcefully, his gaze no longer wavering, but firm.

’That’s right, just do it!’

...

「Two hundred kilometers away. Pearl Harbor, coastal identification zone, island-based defense platform.」

The searchlights were at full blast, aimed at the distant sea, but they were like tiny toothpicks, barely able to illuminate a single corner of the boundless darkness.

Dark waves, blending with the night, surged forward relentlessly. The island’s nigh-impenetrable fortifications seemed minuscule before the giant waves, as if they would be swallowed whole at any moment.

Using the waves as cover, countless terrifying Giant Beasts swarmed the island from all directions:

They had long, slender necks and heads reminiscent of prehistoric plesiosaurs, but their four limbs were far stronger, powerful enough to support them on land.

Their long tails sported broad, massive fins, far more powerful than the most advanced ship engines.

Wind and Water Element Low Level Commander Species—Storm Fish Dragon!

”Ten o’clock! Three Storm Fish Dragons have made landfall!”

”There are more at twelve o’clock... Dammit, why are there so many?”

”The Alliance Member said to focus fire on the one at twelve o’clock, and be careful not to inflict a fatal wound! He’ll take care of the rest!”

”Can he really handle it all by himself? Dammit, when are the Purity Abyss Alliance reinforcements arriving? We can’t hold out like this!”

More and more Storm Fish Dragons came ashore, their gazes fixed on the undermanned island base.

The technicians inside the fortress shivered involuntarily. The heavy fortifications offered them no additional sense of security; the gazes of those Fish Dragons pierced through the screens, conveying the unique killing intent of a wild beast.

The Fish Dragons raised their heads and roared, and the tides surged ever more violently, as if even the skyline was beginning to blur.

The technicians, whose Pet Beasts were not suited for combat, were so terrified they squeezed their eyes shut.

Until a rough male voice rang out, ”We can hold.”

The voice wasn’t loud, yet it pierced through the deafening storm and tsunami.

The waves receded, one after another, but the bulwark remained.

Ke Yan stood before the fortifications, shirtless amidst the tide. His chiseled muscles were like armor, and he himself seemed like an indestructible reef.

He wore no shirt, because any clothing would be instantly soaked in the face of such violent waves.

The Copper Bone War Elephant stood shoulder to shoulder with him, facing the storm. The torrential rain washed its long tusks, making them glint with an ever-more-menacing light.

Around the man and his pet, countless Storm Fish Dragons lay collapsed on the ground, unable to rise again.
