Beast Taming: I Can Add Points

Ice Arrows struck Xiaoyue’s body one after another. The Frosty Winter Arrow could not only physically freeze its target but also paralyze their Spirit.

Xiaoyue faltered for a moment but still lunged forward with desperate fury.

WHOOSH! A supporting blast of flame from a Fire Fist arrived, striking Xiaoyue right after.

Xiaoyue’s body shattered, SPLITTING into two pieces of vine.

Snowball’s eyes shot open. It frantically turned its head—a golden flash flared, and the real Xiaoyue suddenly appeared!

”MREEOOWW!”

Xiaoyue closed in on Snowball with ferocious momentum, lashing out with its claws. At this range, the Frosty Winter Arrow was finally useless.

Melee combat was Xiaoyue’s specialty, but thanks to its race’s innate agility, Snowball barely managed to dodge the first strike.

’If I can just use this chance to create some distance, everything will be okay...’

A Golden Light suddenly flared behind Snowball. Shan Bao appeared out of nowhere, viciously ramming its head into Snowball’s side.

”AWOOO QAQ!!!”

Snowball’s pained howl echoed as the fox lost its balance and was sent flying forward again. Xiaoyue landed two solid hits—WHAM! WHAM!—and knocked Snowball out of the ring.

Shanda University Affiliated School loses another Pet Beast!

At the same time, the cyan vines swept over. This time, Shan Bao and Xiaoyue finally had no room left to dodge and were sent flying from the ring.

All of Huai City First Middle School’s deployed Pet Beasts were eliminated. Shanda University Affiliated School wins the fourth round of the team competition.

The score was now tied, two to two!

”YEAH!!!”

The students watching from below the ring erupted in cheers—and this time, the applause wasn’t just for the victors.

”Huai City First Middle School is incredible! It was four against two, and they still managed to take out two of the other team’s Pet Beasts!”

”Fly bravely, Shan Bao! Your mama loves you...”

”You should think about whether you’re as reckless as Shan Bao first.”

”That was seriously badass. If it had been two-on-two, Shanda University Affiliated School might not have actually won...”

”You can’t really say that, can you? Shanda University Affiliated School also had two Beast Tamers competing. Didn’t the instructor say that for the same number of Beast Tamers, having more Pet Beasts is a testament to their strength?”

”That’s true... I guess you can only say Shanda University Affiliated School is just too strong.”

”Honestly, I think it’s impressive that Shanda University Affiliated School played it so safe and steady. I thought this was going to be one of those classic scripts where the arrogant villain underestimates their opponent and gets turned on, but they played so cautiously they didn’t give Huai City First Middle School a single opening...”

”LMAO, you think this is a novel or something? Life isn’t full of arrogant young masters getting their faces slapped.”

Amid the roaring cheers, Su Zhi and Shao Ya jogged off the ring and rushed over to Xiaoyue and Shan Bao.

Xiaoyue waited for Shan Bao to hop off its belly before slowly getting up. In the instant before they landed, it had adjusted its posture to cushion Shan Bao’s fall.

”Mrow?” Xiaoyue carefully inspected Shan Bao.

’You’re not hurt, are you?’

”Chirp!” Shan Bao nodded, nuzzling against Xiaoyue’s paws.

’I’m okay! Thanks, Big Brother Xiaoyue!’

’Good. Otherwise, that dumb little dog would have been all over me...’ Xiaoyue breathed a sigh of relief, but then it noticed Shan Bao’s guilty expression.

”...Chirp!” Shan Bao hung its head low.

’I’m sorry, I was too much of a noob.’

’If I were just a little stronger, maybe we could’ve won...’

”It’s okay. Winning and losing are just part of what happens in the ring, and besides, our opponents were very strong.”

Su Zhi gently scratched Shan Bao’s head. ”We were at a huge disadvantage, but we still managed to defeat two of their Pet Beasts. That’s a great performance. There’s a long road ahead of us, and we’ll have plenty more wins.”

Shan Bao was no longer dejected. It nodded vigorously and turned its gaze to the approaching Yu Bao.

’Big Brother Yu Bao, I’ll follow your example and grind even harder!’

”Woof.” Yu Bao patted Shan Bao’s head, putting on a perfectly calibrated expression of ”somewhat disappointed, yet proud.”

’In reality, Yu Bao was secretly blooming with joy...’

’Shan Bao lost, just as I expected! The emotional stage has been perfectly set. Now is the time for me to go on and put on a show!’

Seeing the little guy back at full HP, Su Zhi couldn’t help but smile.

’But this Yu Bao... what on earth goes on in that head of his all day...’

He turned to find the white-haired, blue-eyed girl watching him with a look of great interest.

”You can say that all you want, but Su Baby is still a little bummed out, isn’t he?”

Su Baby didn’t answer, which she took as a tacit agreement.

’I have to admit, this little white-haired vixen has me completely figured out. She probably knows me better than I know myself.’

”Don’t worry,” Shao Ya said, patting his shoulder. ”There were a lot of external factors in that loss. It’s not all on you!”

”A loss is a loss. There are no external factors.”

Su Zhi blurted out the words subconsciously and immediately froze, embarrassed. ’That’s true in principle, but she’s trying to comfort you. What are you doing, talking back to her like that...’

Su Zhi looked up regretfully, trying to figure out how to apologize.

But she didn’t look angry at all. In fact, the smile in her eyes only deepened, suffused with a genuine joy.

”Then let’s do our best together,” the girl said, her voice gentle yet firm.

”Yeah!”

Su Zhi clenched his fists and nodded forcefully.

On the other side, Wang Haokun and his partner were walking off the ring. Before leaving, Wang Haokun shot his opponent a meaningful glance.

Although they had won the battle, neither of them felt any joy in the victory.

They were both top students, ranked among the best at the prestigious Shanda University Affiliated School. Their Pet Beasts had perfect training attendance records, and they knew the standardized test curriculum so well they could recite it backward and forward.

They were model students of the exam-oriented education system, the promising next generation, the undisputed rising stars of tomorrow.

This should have been a battle with a foregone conclusion.

And yet, their opponents—Su Zhi’s Envoy’s Pet and Shao Ya’s Envoy’s Pet—had demonstrated a level of Beast Taming expertise that was in no way inferior to their own, delivering them a little taste of Huai City shock.

However, what concerned Wang Haokun more was the Beast Taming style Su Zhi had concealed behind his tactics in this battle.

It seemed somewhat abstract, even a little absurd... but it had left a truly deep impression on him.

Yesterday, when Su Zhi had introduced himself, many people had laughed at him. He himself had been one of them.

Back then, he had even felt a certain contempt for Su Zhi.

’Deviating from the standardized curriculum? Subverting the standard answers? How could a Pet Beast possibly become strong like that? So childish. What kind of Beast Tamer did he think he was?’

This wasn’t just Wang Haokun’s personal opinion; it was a reflection of the collective mindset of all students from Shanda University Affiliated School and other prestigious academies.

But today, that contempt had vanished completely. Su Zhi had taught Wang Haokun a profound lesson—

Perhaps Pet Beast training was meant to be a field where a hundred flowers bloomed, but their vision had been confined to the standardized curriculum, which they revered as if it were the gospel truth.

’Who was the truly childish one, then?’

Ke Yan clicked his stopwatch. ”Prepare for the fifth match of the team competition. The third singles from both sides may now enter the ring.”

The watching students erupted. Today’s mock tournament was more exciting than many official league matches. At first, some had been grumbling about having to stand around all morning, but now everyone felt like they’d hit the jackpot.

So far, Huai City First Middle School and Shanda University Affiliated School had each won two rounds. With the score seesawing back and forth, a match that everyone had expected to be a total blowout had turned into an incredibly tense nail-biter, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats.

The final match would be the decisive battle!

The third singles position was a tricky one: either you never had to go up at all, or you were sent in for the final, decisive battle. Yet, to ensure the earlier rounds weren’t a total collapse, the third singles slot usually couldn’t be filled by the team’s ace.

In major tournaments, the third singles was typically either a seasoned veteran or a rising star—the veteran brought experience, while the star brought fearless aggression.

However, whether by a twist of fate or by some grand design, the two team captains, Su Zhi and Wang Haokun, met once again in the ring, and the entire crowd went wild.

The watching students were thrilled. Some even started ”shipping” the pair, which made Su Zhi’s expression darken.

’Damn it, do you people ship everything you see?’

’A ship can be niche, but it shouldn’t be this cursed!’

”Finally willing to let your Yu Dian Farm Dog on the field?” Wang Haokun asked, sizing up the Yu Bao next to Su Zhi. He’d heard from Chen Xinghao that this was Su Zhi’s Main Pet.

’The Flash Gold Sparrow was just a Sub-Pet, and it was already that strong. I wonder how powerful the Main Pet, Yu Bao, will be.’

’I have no idea how weird his style is going to get... I just need to be ready for anything.’

”I thought you were going to call him a mutt,” Su Zhi said, also glancing at the Cangse beside Wang Haokun.

’This Shadow of Ancient Jing must have evolved relatively early. Its Real-time Energy Value is no lower than Xiaoyue’s.’

’Although it just made an appearance in the doubles match, Cangse hadn’t expended much Energy and was still at full strength... Looks like this will be another tough fight.’

Both competitors grew excited at the same time.

’It didn’t matter. A battle was only meaningful if the opponent was strong enough to make it one!’

”DING.”

The final, decisive round of the team competition—Yu Bao versus Cangse—officially begins!
