Global Lords: I Have Information System

Chapter 255: Chapter 240: Iron Thorns and Storm Crossbow, Zong Shen’s Homemade Cold Storage [Daily 8000]

Inside this supply box are piles of iron caltrops the size of large sea bowls.

Zong Shen recognized these; he had seen them in ancient military documentaries before.

These were iron spiked obstacles used in the cold weapon era, scattered on the ground during ancient wars to delay enemy movements. The caltrops had holes in the middle for stringing together, making them easy to lay and retrieve.

The iron caltrops in this supply box were different in appearance from those Zong Shen had seen in documentaries, and they were a size larger, but their purpose seemed similar.

The large caltrops were not primarily a threat to infantry but to cavalry. It seemed that the heretics of the Calamity Church in Odu Village specifically targeted the indigenous cavalry in their arrangements.

[Heavy Iron Thorns (Green)]

[Quality: Refined Level]

[Piercing Damage: 67~70]

[Durability: 500]

(Heavy version of the iron caltrops, bane of heavy cavalry. They can reduce the efficiency of cavalry charges. They are a very practical defensive weapon, and they can be strung together with tenacious ropes to form an iron thorns net that can entangle horse hooves over a range, enhancing their effect.)

The heretics of the Calamity Raven Church are very wary of the kingdom’s cavalry. The horse-trapping ditches dug outside the village and the caltrops in the supply box were all intentionally aimed at cavalry.

They prepared so many measures that they might as well write ”fear” on their faces.

Now, all these caltrops belong to Zong Shen. Previously, during territory expansion to deal with the grassland oxen, he realized that his territory had very poor defensive efficiency against enemies capable of charging assaults.

Even the grassland oxen could easily rush to the walls, almost unhindered outside. This must be improved.

After the burrow challenge ends, the future city area needs to be re-planned. All buildings will be divided into zones, and Marie will start moving them gradually to establish the city’s prototype.

The current city walls and the Lord’s Courtyard will be retained as the inner city, without any other changes.

Zong Shen and his men took a brief count. One supply box contained about 90 caltrops, with a total of 20 supply boxes filled with them, totaling 1,800 caltrops. These caltrops were all heavy, and Zong Shen found them a bit weighty even with his strength value.

These large caltrops were entirely pitch black, with a layer of grease applied for basic maintenance. They were invisible on the ground in the dark.

Especially when dealing with heavy cavalry, when moving at high speed, if a horse’s hoof stepped on one, it would fall immediately. Each caltrop had three spikes, each 20 centimeters long, enough to penetrate a horse’s hoof. Even if they did not penetrate, they could cause a horse to slip and lose balance.

If deployed on a large scale at important bottlenecks, they could indeed slow down a cavalry assault, causing riders to be thrown off or halting charges. For cavalry, these things are like a blatant scheme.

Zong Shen accepted them all with a smile, intending to use them as territorial defense or for general storage. In the event of a large-scale war in the future, these caltrops could be very useful.

Having gathered all the caltrops, ten supply boxes remained. These supply boxes were all rectangular and larger in volume than others. It was unclear what treasures they contained.

Zong Shen skillfully used the Royal Guard Battle Sword to split the covers. Inside these rectangular supply boxes was a peculiar military device.

Each supply box contained two, resembling siege crossbows, but with a square box at the front.

In one area, there was a palm-sized winch, along with a trigger similar to a crossbow mechanism. Above this trigger was a safety catch, which had to be released before the trigger could be engaged. This was a protective measure to prevent accidental contact and operation.

This device was not small and required mounting to be used. The base had two horizontally placed supports for placing on the ground. There was a support point on the convenient trigger, and the shooting direction could be adjusted slightly.

Judging from these structures, this was definitely a crossbow mechanism meant for either siege or defense. Based on its size and weight, it belonged to the category of light position crossbows.

The large box at the front was covered by a slide panel. Zong Shen reached under and drew the panel upwards, revealing the terrifying contents hidden behind the box.

The box was divided into 120 squares, each containing a crossbow arrow.

This meant the device could fire 120 crossbow arrows at once, equivalent to a squad of 12 people or a platoon of 120 firing a volley.

Zong Shen’s eyes lit up. This was definitely something valuable!

His gaze fixed on the crossbow mechanism, its specific attributes began to appear before his eyes.
