I Return From Hell

Chapter 148: Chapter 141: Xia Yu Laughed Out of Anger

”On the fourth floor.”

The cleaning lady said calmly, ”If you’re looking for our boss, miss, you’ll have to go to the front desk. Have them make the call. I can’t contact the boss from here.”

”Or you could find a way to get to the fourth floor yourself.”

”I can’t get up there. The boss doesn’t just keep guests from going up, he won’t even let us employees.”

Oh?

Hearing this, a glint flashed in Xia Yu’s eyes. She studied the cleaning lady again, then stopped her questioning. ”Thank you for the information, ma’am.”

”I’m not looking for your boss.”

”Just asking.”

”Mm.”

The cleaning lady nodded and left.

Perhaps because she was rather thin and wore soft-soled shoes, her footsteps were silent. No, that’s not right—they were just very quiet.

’She seems to resent the boss,’

Xia Yu guessed.

She knew that Little Flower had absorbed the fleeting whiff of resentment from the cleaning lady, but that didn’t really prove anything.

After all, it was perfectly normal for an employee to resent their boss.

THUD.

Closing the door, Xia Yu composed herself and began to survey the room. ℴ

To the left of the entrance was a white wall; to the right, a two-square-meter bathroom. A couple of steps further in, a bed was placed against the bathroom wall, with a single nightstand beside it.

On the nightstand sat a few small, colorfully packaged boxes.

Along the left wall were a TV, a TV stand, two bottles of soda, and an electric kettle.

The sodas were marked at 10 yuan a bottle, while the same drink cost only 3 yuan outside. Xia Yu could certainly afford it, but seeing the price instantly killed any desire she had to drink one.

Further in,

there was a window.

In front of it were a desk and a stool.

Pulling open the curtains, she could see the people in front of the hotel, including that female streamer.

”Little Flower, you stay here. I’m going to find a way to check out the fourth floor.”

Xia Yu hadn’t found anything out of the ordinary, so she decided to leave the room and look for a chance to get to the fourth floor.

But just as she pushed the door open,

two women came walking toward her.

One of them wore a red coat, her hair in big waves, with a touch of light makeup. She had a wonderful air about her and was very well-maintained, looking to be only in her thirties.

In reality, she was probably already forty.

Behind her and to the side, a pretty, fashionable girl with a great figure and her hair down was complaining aggrievedly, ”Red Sister, we broke up. He said our values don’t align. Isn’t that just bullshit? How is that any different from me telling other guys, ’You’re a great person, but we’re just not a good match’?”

”Did I or did I not find you a rich, handsome guy? Did he or did he not confess his feelings to you? Did he or did he not cheat on you?”

”On the contrary, it was you who started asking that rich kid for this and that from the very beginning. You acted like a total gold digger, and he got sick of it. It even hurt our agency’s reputation.”

”If I hadn’t put in a good word for you, he wouldn’t even have dated you for two months.”

”Red Sister, please don’t be angry.”

The fashionable girl stuffed a red envelope into Red Sister’s hand and said, ”Thank you for introducing me to such a great guy. I really like him. Do you think you could mediate a little? Maybe get him to change his mind?”

Red Sister shook her head decisively.

”These rich kids are a rare ’species.’ They never settle for less. Once they’re annoyed, it’s very hard to get them to change their minds.”

After taking the money, her attitude clearly softened. ”How about this,” she said, ”I’ll introduce you to someone else. But from now on, you have to listen to me. Don’t be in such a hurry to ask them for things.”

”Definitely, definitely.”

”Oh, right. Your membership has expired. Want to renew? How about this? Seeing you in so much pain from your breakup, I feel for you. I’ll give you a special discount: twenty-eight thousand.”

”Thank you, Red Sister! You’re truly my benefactor.”

Red Sister?

’Couldn’t be the head of the matchmaking agency where Ai Cao paid for her membership in Shunyang City, could it?’

’This woman has a branch in Huayang City too?’

’She’s running a pretty big operation.’

Listening to their conversation, Xia Yu was pretty much certain that this ”Red Sister” was the legendary type of matchmaker who scammed young women.

She never expected it.

”Hello, miss.”

”Do you have a boyfriend?”

Red Sister’s eyes lit up when she noticed Xia Yu’s exceptional poise, and she took the initiative to greet her.

Recruiting new members, collecting membership fees.

It was a professional habit.

Xia Yu asked, ”Red Sister, you have a matchmaking agency in Shunyang City, don’t you?”

”Oh?”

”You know me?”

Red Sister grew wary and shot back the question.

”Ai Cao is my friend,”

Xia Yu said.

”Oh, Little Ai!”

”I know her. A very pretty and sweet girl.”

Red Sister’s smile widened. ”It’s a shame. That rich kid she might have ended up with, Chen Hang, had an accident. Otherwise, they would have been another successful match made in heaven.”

”Do you have a boyfriend? If not, I can...”

CREAK.

The hotel room door opened.

Little Flower revealed his handsome, melancholic face, handed a car key to Xia Yu, and then closed the door again.

Red Sister: ”...”

The fashionable girl: ”...”

”Your boyfriend is quite handsome.”

Red Sister glanced at the car key, gave a dry laugh, and said, ”I’ve got something to take care of. We’ll talk later.”

”Goodbye.”

Xia Yu replied.

Having gotten the information she wanted, she couldn’t be bothered to waste any more words on Red Sister, so she had Little Flower make an appearance.

Red Sister was sharp. As expected, after seeing Little Flower and the car key, she stopped pestering her.

”What do you think of this guy? Here’s his profile, take a look.”

”He looks fine.”

”Did you even look? Never mind. I’ll arrange it. You two can meet tonight.”

”Okay.”

After that brief exchange, Red Sister and the fashionable girl went into rooms 208 and 205, respectively.

’Neighbors?’

’Across the hall?’

Seeing this, Xia Yu was quite surprised.

Talk about a coincidence.

For the next ten minutes or so,

Xia Yu scouted the entire hotel and finally found the only way to get to the fourth floor undetected: scale the back of the building with her bare hands!

But before heading to the fourth floor, she needed to shake the ”tail” behind her!

She walked right up to him.

”Heh heh.”

When Xia Hongwei saw Xia Yu walking straight toward him, he knew he’d been spotted. He stopped hiding and, with a broad smile plastered on his face, said, ”You’re Xia Yu, right?”

Xia Yu shook her head coldly. ”You have the wrong person.”

Huh?

Xia Yu’s denial was so blunt it made Xia Hongwei pause, second-guessing himself.

”Impossible!”

”I wouldn’t make that mistake.”

Xia Hongwei pointed to his own eyes. ”I’m very good with faces.”

Xia Yu said indifferently, ”If you keep following me, I’m calling the police.”

”Following you? I... I wasn’t following you.”

Xia Hongwei’s skin was thicker than a castle wall; he immediately shook his head and denied it.

Xia Yu glanced at the time.

There was still a long time until the Mist Event. Now wasn’t the right time to beat this person to a pulp.

She threatened, ”How about I call the police and have them check the surveillance footage?”

”Heh heh.”

Xia Hongwei wasn’t flustered in the least. He said with a grin, ”I just saw that you’ve made it big, Little Yu, and I wanted to bask in some of your good fortune!”

Tired of his nonsense, Xia Yu started dialing the police.

1-1...

’She’s actually doing it?’

Seeing Xia Yu about to press the last digit, Xia Hongwei finally spoke up. ”Wait! I need to talk to you about something!”

Xia Yu asked coldly, ”What is it?”

”Your third uncle borrowed my minivan, and it ended up getting destroyed in the underground garage of the Jinlan International Hotel.”

”Now that his whole family is gone, shouldn’t this debt fall to you, his dear niece?”

Seeing that Xia Yu was unresponsive to either threats or pleas, Xia Hongwei’s expression hardened, and he shot back the question coldly.

’What kind of bullshit logic is that?’

”I wasn’t close with their family.”

Xia Yu glanced at Xia Hongwei and said calmly, ”You can leave now.”

”Trying to weasel out of it?”

Xia Hongwei’s face darkened. ”Your first uncle said it has nothing to do with him, and you say you weren’t close with them. So my van is just a total loss?”

”How can that be!”

”Debts must be paid. That’s just how it is.”

”Even if you call the cops, I’m not afraid!”

He was so arrogant that he started attracting the attention of people nearby.

Feeling their gazes converging on her, Xia Yu frowned.

She never imagined she’d run into this kind of situation.

Of course, given Xia Hongwei’s money-grubbing nature, it made sense.

’But how should I resolve this now?’

”How much do you want?”

she asked.

Hearing this, Xia Hongwei broke into a smile. ”One hundred thousand.”

One hundred thousand?

Xia Yu almost laughed out of anger.

It wasn’t that she didn’t have the money. But his outrageous demand was truly excessive.

”Fine.”

”However, I don’t have that much cash on me right now, and I have something to do tonight. I can give it to you first thing tomorrow morning after I’m done. Is that okay?”

She compromised.

”Alright.”

”I’m not an unreasonable person. I’ll let you take care of your business tonight.”

Xia Hongwei’s eyes lit up. He clearly hadn’t expected his used minivan, bought for 8,800 yuan, to yield such a return. He didn’t have time to wonder why Xia Yu’s attitude had changed so quickly. He just said, ”You’d better not be lying to me.”

”Otherwise...”

”Heh heh, you know me. I’ve got nothing to lose. You don’t want to get tangled up with me right now, right?”

”I won’t lie to you.”

”I’m staying here tonight, and you’re paying for my room!”

”Are you sure?”

”I’m sure.”

”I’ll get you the most expensive room, so you can have a good night’s sleep.”
