I Return From Hell

Chapter 129: Chapter 122: Courage and Choice

”Only twenty-seven people are still alive.”

Xia Yu’s expression was grim as she looked at the overwhelming horde of Mutants, with over thirty Mutated Beasts scattered among them.

’So many of them...’

’This is definitely the largest number I’ve faced since my rebirth.’

’Worse still, there are at least three Red-eyed Mutant Beasts that have broken free from their ’cages’ hiding in the shadows!’

’The situation is dire!’

’Xie Shaokun is barely holding his own.’

’As for Little Flower...’

She looked toward Little Flower.

Since the Mist Event began, the people here had contributed more resentment, further increasing Little Flower’s power. It now possessed 18% of its strength at its Peak.

It was approaching the level of a Red-eyed Mutant Beast!

Moreover, it feared no injury, felt no pain, and had no weak points. This made its combat prowess even more monstrous than that of Xie Shaokun, who had an enhanced superpower.

Little Flower currently wielded a long, heavy Horse-cutting Saber with a razor-sharp blade.

Its fighting style was savage—all offense, no Defense!

It cut down Mutants as if slicing through melons. Even Mutated Beasts struggled to last three rounds against it. If not for the fact that Little Flower’s movements were still a bit stiff and it lacked combat experience...

...an ordinary Mutated Beast wouldn’t have been able to withstand a single one of its strikes.

’It’s holding up.’

Seeing Little Flower fighting like a God of War, Xia Yu’s expression relaxed with relief.

BANG.

She turned her attention back to Xie Shaokun, firing a pistol with one hand to provide him with cover.

The pressure on Xie Shaokun instantly lessened, and his kill rate soared once more.

”Miss, please, save me! Let me in the car! I can’t die. My mother is bedridden and seriously ill; she needs me to take care of her. If I die, how will she survive?”

A middle-aged man in his forties came to her window, his face a mask of desperation.

He was a weeping mess.

Since his mother fell ill, he had spent hundreds of thousands. He’d sold everything he could and was still drowning in debt. His wife, unable to bear it any longer, had just finalized their divorce and left with their child.

He had only come here to clear his head, never imagining he would run into something like this.

’Why is it always me? Why am I so unlucky?’

’Why?’

In that instant, resentment surged from his body and flowed directly into Little Flower.

Xia Yu’s expression remained placid. Looking at the man’s haggard face, she knew he was likely telling the truth. But after ten years in the Apocalypse, she had seen far more tragic people. Hearing such stories, her heart had long become as still as water.

”The only one who can save you is yourself.”

She refused him outright, pulling a combat knife from the car and handing it to him.

”I... I...”

The middle-aged man snatched the knife, his expression flickering between hesitation and frenzy.

Clearly, he still lacked that final spark of courage.

Xia Yu ignored him and went back to shooting, supporting Xie Shaokun.

「Three minutes later.」

Xie Shaokun had killed another thirty-odd Mutants and two Mutated Beasts.

It was an impressive tally.

But when he turned to look, there were only seven people left alive outside the car, including himself and Little Flower!

All the others had been killed!

”Let us in! Open the car door!”

”Help! *Sob*... I don’t want to die! Somebody save me!”

...

Chen Hang and the others screamed until their throats were raw.

’It’s happening too fast!’

’The people around them were dying too fast.’

’If this keeps up, they’re all going to die here.’

Who wouldn’t be terrified?

RAT-TAT-TAT.

Just then, Xia Yu brandished a submachine gun and began spraying fire indiscriminately at the surrounding Mutants and Mutated Beasts.

For the current Mutants and Mutated Beasts, firearms were an overwhelmingly superior form of attack.

The bullets easily sank into their bodies, causing immense damage.

They might not feel pain, but the damage to their joints was real. The sheer impact force of the bullets was also real. Their movements were severely hampered, and their speed plummeted.

Consequently, their combat effectiveness dropped sharply.

Xie Shaokun’s kill rate skyrocketed.

In just one minute, he matched his kill count from the previous three minutes.

”Ah!”

At the sight, Chen Hang and the others stopped banging on the car door, a mixture of shock and joy on their faces.

They clearly hadn’t expected the person in the car to have a submachine gun!

Thanks to this, the rate at which they were being killed slowed dramatically.

”If you want to live, pick up a Weapon and fight back!”

”Otherwise, you might as well just wait to die!”

Xie Shaokun fell back to the group’s side, roaring as he continued to fight.

Unfortunately, not a single one of them, Chen Hang included, could muster the courage to fight.

That included the middle-aged man holding the combat knife.

They all cowered.

They shoved each other.

Each tried to hide behind someone else.

Seeing this, Xie Shaokun was utterly disappointed. He said no more and focused on the hunt.

RAT-TAT-TAT.

Xia Yu didn’t even spare them a glance.

’They chose this path, so they have to live with the consequences.’

Courage is also a Weapon.

Sometimes, it’s more important than a sharp blade or even a gun.

Take the middle-aged man with the knife, for example. The bloody, brutal scenes had scared him witless. He had no will to fight left and was just a cowering wreck. How could he possibly fight back?

The sharp combat knife in his hand was going completely to waste.

SQUELCH.

A moment later, a Mutant lunged at him, jaws snapping.

He flailed wildly with the knife, even foolishly closing his eyes, doing nothing but screaming.

He managed to leave a long gash on the Mutant’s face, but in return, it bit straight through his throat. He died a miserable death.

For some reason, just before he died, he turned to look at Xia Yu, and an immense wave of resentment surged from his body.

”Hm?”

Xia Yu noticed a significant boost in Little Flower’s power; it now possessed twenty percent of its strength at its Peak.

It was a qualitative leap.

Its power was now comparable to a Red-eyed Mutant Beast.

Its kill rate soared accordingly.

Fortunately, Little Flower was still in control of itself.

”Young lady, please save me and my child!”

A mother holding a baby boy had been shoved to the very edge of the crowd. She could only try to soothe her wailing child while pleading through her tears, ”Please, I’m begging you.”

Xia Yu’s gaze swept over the crying baby in the woman’s arms, and her brow furrowed.

”Move.”

She ordered icily, ”Let her through!”

The two people blocking the mother and child flinched, but they put on a brave front. ”Why should we make way for them? They’re two lives, and so are we!”

”Yeah! That’s right!”

BANG!

Xia Yu pulled the trigger, sending a bullet whistling past one of the men’s scalps.

”Aaah!”

The man collapsed in terror on the spot.

Without a word, the other man scrambled out of the way.

”Thank you, thank you.”

The mother was full of gratitude, her eyes repeatedly darting toward the inside of the car. Her intention was obvious.

Unfortunately, Xia Yu paid her no mind and continued to fight.

An unknown amount of time passed.

She went through one magazine after another.

Thousands of bullets had been unleashed.

The ground was carpeted with the corpses of Mutants, Mutated Beasts, and humans, and the earth was stained red with blood.

The metallic tang of blood hung heavy in the air.
