I Return From Hell

Chapter 113: Chapter 106: Battling the Resentful Corpse

Just as she’d expected.

The moment Zhang Feng was killed, the Resentful Corpse’s resentment plummeted.

But after dropping by only twenty percent, it came to an abrupt halt.

???

Xia Yu hadn’t fled. She was planning to wait for the Resentful Corpse’s resentment to weaken before launching a sneak attack to kill it. But what was happening now?

’Could it be that Zhang Feng isn’t the one it truly resents?’

’Is there more to this case?’

She looked at Nai’er’s female assistant.

”It has nothing to do with me! Ah...”

The woman turned to run in terror, but Xia Yu grabbed her. ”What else do you know? Speak!”

”I really don’t know anything else! I’ve already told you everything I know, *sob*. Let me go, I’m so scared.”

”If you don’t talk, I’ll throw you down!”

”Ah! Don’t! I really have told you everything. I’m just an assistant, and I’m in charge of the livestreaming side of things. I don’t know that much.”

”Why don’t you ask Nai’er?”

Xia Yu’s elegant brows furrowed slightly.

’Is the person the Resentful Corpse hates most not here?’

’Or could it be...’

Her gaze fell upon Nai’er.

SWOOSH.

Just then, Nai’er shot to her feet with incredible speed and bolted, as if she had rehearsed the move countless times.

Xia Yu was about to stop her.

SWOOSH.

The sound of something cutting through the air rang out.

Her expression changed drastically. She subconsciously let go of the assistant, retreated at high speed, and slashed forward fiercely with her Blood Butterfly.

SCHLICK.

The sound of the blade sinking into flesh echoed.

As powerful as the Resentful Corpse was, its defense was still breached.

Its flesh was torn open.

It even stumbled back several steps.

Clearly, the extra damage the Blood Butterfly inflicted on Spiritual Energy beings made it wary.

This was the main reason Xia Yu hadn’t used her submachine gun to attack it right away.

The bullets were indeed powerful and could penetrate its flesh, their high-speed rotation causing secondary damage, but the Resentful Corpse felt no pain and had no weak points.

In short, a gun couldn’t kill it.

”Help me... Ah...”

Nai’er’s assistant had just started to run toward Xia Yu, but after a few steps, she collapsed to her knees, her hand outstretched in despair. Finally, she fell face down on the ground.

The center of her back was now an empty, gaping hole.

What surprised Xia Yu, however, was that the Resentful Corpse’s resentment had actually decreased by another fraction.

Why?

”Hm?”

She couldn’t figure it out. She knew there had to be some hidden detail that hadn’t been revealed yet.

She pulled her thoughts back to the present.

Xia Yu began to focus on the battle before her.

Right now, the Resentful Corpse was only at sixty percent of its peak strength. Xia Yu, on the other hand, had been absorbing Heaven and Earth Spiritual Power ever since she’d arrived, and her own power had increased slightly.

She could break through at any moment.

She would reach the First Grade Spiritual Realm and become a First-grade Spirit Transformer.

’I have to break through as soon as possible and seize the initiative!’

Xia Yu’s thoughts raced.

However, she was constantly being affected by her surroundings. Her emotions were agitated and her mind was unsettled. Although her absolute willpower prevented her from being too greatly affected, she was completely unable to focus her whole being on breaking through.

She could only continue to absorb Heaven and Earth Spiritual Power and wait for the breakthrough to happen naturally.

SWOOSH.

The Resentful Corpse lunged again.

Xia Yu could only make out a black shadow. Once again, she predicted its point of attack and thrust her Blood Butterfly forward.

SCHLICK.

The sound of flesh being pierced rang out again.

The Resentful Corpse’s palm was impaled.

But at that same moment, its other hand balled into a fist and struck viciously at Xia Yu.

Fortunately, Xia Yu was constantly on guard. The moment she sensed danger, she immediately threw a punch with her left fist.

BAM.

The two fists collided.

Xia Yu instantly felt as if her knuckles were about to shatter. With experienced ease, she opened her palm, twisted her arm with the momentum, and deflected most of the force from the blow.

Only then did she manage to evade the attack unscathed.

The two separated.

This time, the Resentful Corpse vanished directly into the darkness, leaving no trace.

Xia Yu’s left hand trembled slightly. She turned and fled.

This Resentful Corpse not only far surpassed her in strength, but it also felt no pain, had no weaknesses, and most critically, it even understood some rudimentary fighting techniques!

’How am I supposed to fight this?’

’I can’t win!’

For now, all she could do was stall for time.

Using her knowledge of the terrain and dodging through the tight spaces, she would periodically use the Blood Butterfly in her hand to force the Resentful Corpse back.

Xia Yu managed to stall for several minutes.

Finally, she caught up to Nai’er and Xia Hongchun!

”There’s a room up ahead with an open door! Hurry!”

”Go!”

When the two of them heard the footsteps approaching from behind, their speed... actually increased a notch.

Human potential was truly limitless.

SWOOSH.

Xia Hongchun was the first one in. He turned his head and shouted, ”Close the door! Quick!”

It had to be said, he was a bit stupid.

If he had stopped, waited for the instant Nai’er rushed into the room, and slammed the door shut, he definitely could have blocked Xia Yu outside in time.

As it was, even though Nai’er obediently went to close the door, she was still too late.

Xia Yu managed to slip inside just before the door was shut.

Outside the door, there was dead silence.

Inside, the ragged breathing of three people could be heard.

”Did it not find us?”

Xia Hongchun asked tentatively.

Nai’er let out a sigh of relief.

”Talk!”

Xia Yu, however, stared at her and asked coldly, ”Why did you pretend to be unconscious just now?”

”I didn’t.”

Nai’er shook her head. ”I wasn’t completely unconscious. My mind was just very fuzzy, and I couldn’t control my body.”

”Later, my consciousness cleared up, and I regained full control of my body. Then I saw you grabbing my assistant, and I thought you were going to murder her, so I ran for my life in terror.”

There were no holes in her story.

Xia Yu frowned. Deciding to scare her, she made the Blood Butterfly dance, its tip aimed at Nai’er’s heart. ”You’re lying!”

”You’re the real murderer!”

*Sob...*

Nai’er burst into tears from fright. She quickly covered her mouth with both hands, trying her best not to make a sound while shaking her head frantically.

”Still acting?”

Xia Yu’s gaze turned icy.

Nai’er, suppressing her crumbling emotions, actually took a step forward.

If Xia Yu hadn’t retracted the Blood Butterfly in time, Nai’er would likely have died on the spot.

Having failed to kill herself, Nai’er could only beg for death. ”Just kill me. I shouldn’t have run just now. I want to go down and be with him.”

*Sob... sob...*

’Is it really not her?’

Xia Yu felt that something was wrong, but before she could think it through, she was once again overcome by agitation. Her expression changed. ”It’s here again!”

BAM.

The next moment, the door was struck with immense force.

It broke off its hinges!

Flying into the room!

It slammed into Nai’er and Xia Yu, who were closer, and sent them flying.

PTHOO.

How could Nai’er withstand such a powerful impact? It all happened so suddenly that she had no time to defend herself. She spat out a mouthful of blood on the spot and nearly fainted again.

Because Xia Yu had remained on high alert and reacted with a defensive posture in time, she wasn’t seriously injured. She immediately got to her feet, ready to fight.

BANG.

A black shadow closed in on her.

She was kicked in the abdomen and sent slamming hard against the wall.

Finally, she crumpled to the ground.

Her body arched, her elegant brows knitting together in pain, but she still forced herself to stand up quickly, enduring the agony.

However, to Xia Yu’s surprise, the Resentful Corpse didn’t press its advantage to finish her off. Instead, it turned its gaze toward Nai’er!
