I Return From Hell

Chapter 112: Chapter 105: The Mastermind Behind the Scenes?

WHOOSH!

All eyes turned to her.

”Don’t talk nonsense.”

Nai’er flinched and quickly warned, ”Or... or else I’ll fire you.”

”Go ahead.”

The female assistant, who had been hurt before, wasn’t falling for it. ”A while ago, Nai’er and Zhang Feng were very close. Zhang Feng often came to pick her up in his car. I saw it myself at least three times.”

”I suspect it was a crime of passion!”

A glint appeared in Xia Yu’s eyes.

’That does make sense.’

’So...’

’Is the killer really Zhang Feng?’

”What do you have to say?”

She looked at Nai’er.

”I... I...”

Nai’er stammered.

This only made everyone more suspicious.

The heart-pounding sensation returned.

And it was growing stronger.

Xia Yu knew the Resentful Corpse was getting close again. She grabbed Zhang Feng.

”Don’t kill me.”

”I’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything!”

Feeling Xia Yu’s iron-like grip, Zhang Feng found it impossible to break free. Desperate to live, he could no longer stay calm and blurted everything out. ”Nai’er came to me to gamble.”

”We weren’t rekindling an old flame.”

Nai’er lowered her head and covered her face in anguish. ”That animal Zhang Feng was the one who got me into gambling in the first place, getting me addicted.”

”A while ago, I couldn’t resist the urge and went to him myself.”

”I never thought it would get... him killed...”

”*Sob*...”

As she spoke, she began to sob with guilt.

Xia Yu’s eyes flickered. She realized there was truly more to this story.

”But I really didn’t kill her husband! I’m not the murderer!”

”I swear!”

Zhang Feng hurriedly explained, ”Nai’er owed a huge gambling debt and couldn’t pay it back. I was originally going to have her pay with her body, but then I discovered that the phone number linked to my XX.com account had lost its signal and wasn’t working. Later, when I logged into my account, I found that all the VTC in my digital wallet was gone.”

”That was ten million yuan worth of VTC.”

”Just as I was about to call the police, Nai’er’s husband called me.”

”He said if I wanted the ten million yuan worth of VTC back, I had to bring Nai’er’s IOU and all the money she had lost gambling before.”

”If I dared to call the police, he’d hand over the evidence that I run a casino, and we’d both go down. Once the casino was shut down and I was arrested, her debt would be wiped clean.”

”I arranged to meet him to talk.”

”He set the meeting place here. I never expected it to be the place I use for my legitimate, public-facing job.”

”After that, I turned off the hotel’s surveillance cameras and sent Song Ni to negotiate. She was to tell Nai’er’s husband that I would only tear up the IOU, but I wouldn’t return the money Nai’er had lost.”

”The two of them couldn’t reach an agreement.”

”I had Song Ni leave and went to talk to him myself, but the negotiations broke down again. In a fit of rage, I beat him up and forcefully transferred all the VTC out of the account.”

”But I really didn’t kill him!”

”I never thought he would just slam his head into the wall and kill himself!”

”I was terrified. I may run a casino, but I’ve never killed anyone. I panicked and ran out. After that... well, you all know the rest.”

Stealing ten million yuan worth of VTC was no easy feat. It required knowing Zhang Feng’s account information, creating fake identification for him, getting a replacement SIM card...

The process was complex.

You had to admit, Nai’er’s husband was a talented guy.

Xia Yu was familiar with this kind of procedure, so she already believed about eighty percent of what Zhang Feng was saying.

However...

’Why did Nai’er’s husband kill himself?’

’Why not just cash out the virtual currency? After cashing it out, he would have had enough to pay back the gambling debt, right?’

Fearing Xia Yu would think he was lying, Zhang Feng quickly added more details. ”Right, during the negotiation, Nai’er’s husband said his real intention wasn’t to take my money. He just wanted to get back all the money Nai’er had lost, which is why he didn’t cash out the virtual currency.”

”He also said that Nai’er didn’t know about any of this. He kept her out of it the whole time because he was afraid she’d be considered an accomplice and get implicated.”

Hearing this, Nai’er was crying so hard she could barely speak.

After her husband’s death, at her female assistant’s suggestion, she had planned to stir up publicity around the incident to make a quick buck.

To pay off her looming gambling debts, she had agreed and even put on an act with her assistant:

She had the assistant mention during the livestream that Nai’er was completely unaware of the plan to sell merchandise, claiming she only wanted to stream to get everyone’s support and build momentum.

Everything was supposedly being handled by the assistant behind the scenes.

As for whether the audience would believe it...

To put it bluntly, most of them would!

And that was indeed the case.

If the Mist Event hadn’t occurred, she would have gained both fame and fortune!

But her husband had loved her so much. He had worked behind the scenes to solve her debt problem, willing to commit a crime for her, all while trying to keep her from being implicated, and even...

”Knowing my husband, he must have killed himself on purpose. His goal was to trigger an investigation that would eventually shut down the casino, expose Zhang Feng, and void my gambling debts.”

”He did so much for me, but what did I do? *Sob*.”

Thinking about her own actions, Nai’er was overwhelmed with guilt. She felt like a complete animal.

Subhuman!

”I don’t have the face to go on living.”

As she thought about her husband’s deep love for her, her guilt grew until she finally slammed her head against a nearby wall.

It happened so fast.

The others had no time to stop her.

With a THUD, she fainted and collapsed to the ground, motionless.

Everyone jumped in shock.

Xia Yu was unmoved, her gaze fixed intently on the floor below.

The investigation had reached a point where the whole case was crystal clear. The Resentful Corpse’s greatest hatred was directed at Zhang Feng!

Luring others into gambling, getting them hooked, and ultimately causing them to lose everything, forcing them to commit crimes and take desperate measures.

The man was indeed despicable.

And yet...

’Something still feels off,’ she thought. ’If I had to say what, it’s this: is that hatred really enough?’

’It’s not enough to create resentment, let alone enough to sustain Nai’er’s husband as a Resentful Corpse!’

’After all, the other main party in this case—Nai’er—had brought this on herself. She was a compulsive gambler, which is why she was swindled out of her money.’

The next instant.

”It’s here!”

Xia Yu had no time to think further. Sensing the Resentful Corpse had reached the floor below, she whipped her head toward Zhang Feng.

”Get out of my way!”

Zhang Feng kicked Nai’er’s female assistant aside and fled for his life, heading upstairs.

CRACK.

Xia Yu kicked his knee, shattering it. She grabbed him by the ankle, intending to throw him to the floor below.

She felt no mercy for people like him.

”No.”

”Spare me! I’ll give you ten million! Twenty million!”

”I...”

Before Zhang Feng could say another word, he was airborne, having been thrown down!

He landed so hard it felt like his entire body was about to fall apart.

A pathetic sight.

”I wouldn’t let you go even if I became a ghost, you fucking bitch!”

Pain shot through his entire body, his head having suffered a particularly severe impact. Even so, he didn’t forget to curse and rail at Xia Yu.

In a daze,

he saw a familiar figure in the darkness, dressed in burial clothes, walking toward him step by step until it stopped right in front of him.

”It’s you!”

The fear sharpened Zhang Feng’s consciousness, allowing him to see the other’s face clearly, which only terrified him even more!

’Back from the dead?’

’A ghost!’

’A ghost!’

He desperately tried to escape.

But with both arms and one leg useless, how could he possibly run?

The Resentful Corpse seized Zhang Feng by the neck, lifting him into the air like a toy. He struggled to breathe, despair washing over him, yet he still tried to bargain for his life. ”You... you committed suicide... You... you can’t blame... me, right?”

”If you’re going to blame someone... you... should blame Nai... Nai’er!”

The next instant.

Resentment flared to the heavens.

With a SQUELCH, the Resentful Corpse’s hands, like iron pincers, brutally tore Zhang Feng’s neck in two!
