I Return From Hell

Chapter 126: Chapter 119: The 8th Mist Event, Commence

”That can’t be real, can it?”

Little Nannan furrowed her little brow in disbelief. ”Why would a rich kid go to a matchmaking agency for a blind date? Even a high-end one, that’s impossible.”

”I thought so too at first.”

Little Ai spoke up. ”But later, my mom asked around, and I looked him up online. He’s the real deal—a genuine rich kid.”

”Take this guy, Chen Hang, for example. He’s the youngest son of the CEO of Shunyang City Energy Co., Ltd. He has over thirty properties across the country, seven or eight luxury cars, and he’s a purchasing manager at a state-owned enterprise himself.”

Little Nannan scratched her head.

She felt like something was off, but with her limited experience, she couldn’t quite put her finger on what the problem was.

”According to Red Sister,”

Little Ai continued, ”The circles those rich kids run in aren’t very big, so it’s hard for them to find someone of equal social standing. This is especially true for guys like Chen Hang. He’s not the only son, he doesn’t have much business talent, and he isn’t capable of taking over his father’s business. He can only rely on his family to arrange a stable job for him.”

”He just lives a more carefree life than the average person.”

”That’s why they come to high-end matchmaking agencies like this. After all, these places vet the women’s qualifications. Plus, the thirty-thousand-yuan monthly membership fee filters for high-quality women who meet the criteria: good looks, a great figure, a high level of education, and a middle-class family background.”

That made sense.

Little Nannan nodded. From the look on her face, it was clear she was completely convinced.

Xia Yu shook her head. ’She’s only five. So gullible.’

In her past life, three years after the Apocalypse began, she had met a down-on-her-luck matchmaker in No. 9 Shelter who told her about some of the industry’s unwritten rules and schemes.

One of those schemes was very similar to what Little Ai was experiencing.

These rich kids were real, but they weren’t really looking to marry you.

They were just there as matchmaking shills.

What was their goal?

First, they got to fool around with girls.

This was easy to understand. Most of the women who joined these agencies and paid the fees were decent girls. They were high-quality, beautiful, and some were even ’clean’—untouched by men.

Whether these girls were gold diggers or not, they wouldn’t ask for much at the beginning of the relationship to avoid seeming like one. They would even offer to pay for meals, or at the very least, go dutch.

On top of that, the matchmaker would be on the sidelines, reminding them to behave and not be too demanding at first. ’Once you have him wrapped around your finger,’ she’d say, ’you can ask for whatever you want.’

Unfortunately, that day would never come for these girls.

Second, they got paid.

For every additional month a girl dating one of these rich kids paid her membership fee to the agency, a portion of that fee would be kicked back to the rich kid himself.

As long as she kept paying, he kept getting a cut.

So...

Why wouldn’t a rich kid like Chen Hang come and play?

Honestly, it’s a lot of fun for them, isn’t it?

Many people might ask: Are these girls really that stupid?

But they don’t realize that the moment you step into a matchmaking agency, you’re like a sheep with a rope around its neck. Do you think it’s so easy to break free?

”My mom just paid the first month’s fee, and the agency introduced me to my first blind date—Chen Hang. But I don’t like him. I feel like there’s no need to force yourself to fit into a social class that isn’t yours. It’s too exhausting. But my mom...”

”Forget it.”

”Let’s not talk about her.”

Little Ai shook her head, a smile returning to her face. ”Yu, are you just hanging out here?”

”Yeah.”

Xia Yu nodded but didn’t warn Little Ai about anything.

’It’s her life, her choice.’

Besides...

’It’s not even certain if Little Ai will survive the coming Mist Event.’

”Yu.”

”It’s starting.”

Just then, Little Nannan’s voice rang out.

A faint mist began to appear.

”Is it getting foggy?”

Little Ai was puzzled. ”Shunyang City’s environment has been well-managed these past few years. It rarely gets foggy.”

”Wait!”

”Why does this mist look so much like the one that enveloped the Jinlan International Hotel?”

She grew alert.

Xie Shaokun had already driven up to them, shouting to Xia Yu, ”Yu, what’s the plan?”

”Get in.”

Xia Yu called to Little Nannan and Little Flower.

After a moment’s hesitation, she looked at Little Ai. ”You too?”

”Oh, okay.”

Little Ai looked at the imposing, modified SUV before her and couldn’t help but furrow her delicate brows.

’Aren’t cars prohibited in this area?’

The small animals scurried away in fright.

The people around them also showed looks of disapproval.

But...

Xia Yu, Xie Shaokun, Little Nannan, and Little Flower paid them no mind at all.

”Yu.”

”Um... you’re not going to kick me out, are you?”

Xie Shaokun turned to ask Xia Yu, who was in the passenger seat.

”Let’s hope you have better luck this time.”

Xia Yu said flatly, then ignored Xie Shaokun’s bewildered expression and looked at Little Nannan in the back seat. ”Get the guns from the back.”

”Okay.”

Little Nannan gave Xie Shaokun a look, then folded down one of the seats and expertly began pulling firearms out of the trunk area.

Little Ai, thinking the guns were props, asked curiously, ”Are you guys... filming a web series? A short video?”

”KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.”

Before anyone could answer her, someone knocked on the car window.

They all looked over.

Chen Hang was standing outside the driver’s side door with a man who had a snake tattoo on his neck.

The window rolled down.

”Brother.”

Chen Hang put on a gentle smile. ”I’ve found out what happened. How about you get out, apologize, and pay a hundred thousand yuan in compensation? Then we can call it even.”

’How ridiculous!’

Xie Shaokun was already in a foul mood, and now his expression soured even more. ”Get lost.”

”You...”

Chen Hang’s smile froze on his face.

He had clearly prepared a whole speech, but now he was at a loss for words.

He just hadn’t expected Xie Shaokun to be so brazen.

He wasn’t playing by the rules.

”Brother Hang, it’s not that I don’t want to give you face, but this guy is just asking for it.”

The Snake Man let out a vicious grin and shouted to his men, ”Call the head of security here. Tell him to turn off the surveillance cameras and keep his men from patrolling this area.”

”Got it.”

A man with white hair immediately took out his phone.

”Kid.”

Chen Hang looked at Xie Shaokun and gave him one last warning. ”They’re with the Gao Family. I suggest you back down. It’s better than losing your life.”

”The Gao Family?”

”Heh.”

Tired of wasting his breath on them, Xie Shaokun pulled a pistol from his waistband, aimed the dark barrel at the Snake Man, and spat, ”Get lost.”

”Ooooh.”

”I’m so scared.”

”This kid is so damn cute.”

The Snake Man’s lackeys clearly didn’t believe it was a real gun, and they certainly didn’t believe Xie Shaokun would dare to fire it in the city. They all burst out laughing. ”A little punk who hasn’t even hit puberty is playing with guns?”

”Be careful you don’t break it.”

”Haha.”

”BANG.”
