I Return From Hell

Chapter 139: Chapter 132: This Is a Smart Person

The next day.

10:30 in the morning.

Inside a hotel in Shunyang City.

Little Nannan began to recount what happened yesterday. ”It’s a good thing Big Sis accurately threw the Hand Grenade and blew up that crooked-neck tree, or we’d all be dead.”

”Later...”

A few minutes later.

”Thank you.”

After hearing Little Nannan’s story, Little Ai, who was lying in bed, understood what had happened after she passed out yesterday. But her head was still groggy, and she couldn’t think straight at all.

Little Nannan waved her hand. ”I didn’t do much. If you want to thank someone, thank Big Sis. She’s out taking care of some business with Brother Snake. They’ll be back soon.”

”Mm.”

Little Ai’s face was full of admiration as she said, ”You guys are so amazing, and you seem to know everything. Who exactly are you?”

Little Nannan was quite proud. ”We’re a team, and Big Sis is our leader. By the way, you’re pretty amazing too. Want to join us?”

She knew what Big Sis was thinking, so she started the recruitment pitch early.

”I can join you guys?”

”That’s great!”

Little Ai agreed without hesitation.

Little Nannan clearly hadn’t expected it to be so easy.

For a moment, the atmosphere grew increasingly friendly.

Then Little Ai thought of something and asked, ”By the way, what about that little boy?”

Little Nannan’s expression darkened. ”He died,” she said.

”How did he die?”

Little Ai’s mind cleared instantly, and she pressed her question.

”Well... I glanced at the wounds on his body, it looked like... like...”

Little Nannan trailed off.

Little Ai put the pieces together. Her face fell as she said, ”He fell to his death, didn’t he? And even if he didn’t, he was definitely killed by shrapnel from the Hand Grenade!”

Recalling the state of the baby boy’s body, Little Nannan didn’t deny it. Instead, she said, ”But at that moment, if we hadn’t used the Hand Grenade, we all would have died. Big Sis didn’t have the luxury of another choice.”

Little Ai fell silent.

She was right.

Sacrifices had to be made.

But...

”Don’t you think Xia Yu was a little too cruel?”

she asked.

”No.”

Little Nannan shook her head decisively. ”The person who makes that choice is the one who suffers the most inside.”

”Besides, you can’t blame Big Sis for this, can you?”

Little Ai struggled to get up.

”But she clearly knew about the Mist Event happening here. Why didn’t she tell us beforehand? Why did she let ordinary people like us be put in danger?”

she asked with a grim face as she got dressed.

Little Nannan faltered.

”People with different principles can’t work together.”

”Your team... I’m better off not joining.”

Little Ai pushed the door open and left, her decision firm. ”However, she did save my life. I’ll consider it a debt I owe her, and one day, I’ll pay it back.”

”You...”

Little Nannan took a step forward but ultimately didn’t try to stop her.

’Helping is a kindness, not an obligation.’

’Big Sis wasn’t wrong.’

...

...

「Three hours earlier.」

”Yu, just as you expected, there are people watching us.”

In the room where Little Ai was resting, Xie Shaokun peered through a crack in the curtains. He soon spotted some suspicious figures lurking outside.

”Mm.”

Xia Yu wasn’t surprised.

With their enemy’s influence, it was impossible for them not to be found. Sending people to watch them was only to be expected.

As if nothing was amiss, she continued eating her soup dumplings.

”Yu.”

Xie Shaokun asked in confusion, ”Why aren’t we going back to Huayang City? This is Gao Zhengting’s territory. It’s too dangerous for us to stay here.”

”Don’t worry.”

Xia Yu said calmly, ”He didn’t make a move on us before, and he’s even less likely to do so now.”

She silently added, ’At least, not openly.’

’As for any underhanded methods...’

She wasn’t concerned.

Xie Shaokun nodded, believing Yu’s words without a doubt.

”What’s our next move?”

he asked.

’Yu chose to stay here. She must have a reason.’

”Snake Man.”

Xia Yu looked at Hong She and asked, ”You said the collection agency has some dirty money ledgers? How much is in them, roughly?”

She wanted to know if it was worth her time.

”Yes.”

”It’s illegal income. I estimate it’s in the tens of millions.”

Hong She nodded cautiously. He was smart enough to guess her intentions and asked, ”Yu, are you planning to get your hands on that dirty money?”

Xia Yu nodded.

Her actions had a twofold purpose:

First, because of her transaction with Master Wu, she was short on cash again.

She desperately needed a large sum of money.

Second, to cut off Hong She’s retreat. It was the only way to make him work for her without reservation.

Until she could obtain resources like a Servant Spirit Species, she could only use these small tricks to control Hong She.

”This...”

Hong She hesitated.

”What is it?”

Xie Shaokun frowned. ”Is there a problem? Or are you not planning to work for us wholeheartedly?”

”No, no, no.”

Hong She quickly waved his hands.

”Then what are you hesitating for?”

Xie Shaokun pressed.

”Sigh.”

Hong She sighed. ”I’m worried. I’m worried that if we do this, they’ll retaliate, and my mother will be in danger.”

”Those people are ruthless and vicious. They’ve even killed quite a few people.”

So that was the reason.

Xie Shaokun understood and started to say, ”That’s simple. I’ll go get your mother—”

He stopped mid-sentence, suddenly realizing something, and looked toward Xia Yu.

’This is something Yu should decide. He couldn’t make promises on his own.’

Hong She obviously knew Xie Shaokun had little authority and that the true leader of this team was Xia Yu. So, after a slight hesitation, he spoke up. ”Please, Yu, bring my mother over. That way...”

”I’ll be able to work for you without any other worries.”

He knew Xia Yu didn’t trust him. Intercepting the dirty money from the company was a way to burn his bridges.

So, he decided to simply hand over his ’weakness’—his mother—to Xia Yu!

In his view, it was better for his mother to be in Xia Yu’s hands than to be captured by the Gao Family. After all, the latter were capable of anything, while Xia Yu still had a conscience.

”Alright.”

Xia Yu nodded in agreement. ”Xie Shaokun, you go.”

’Hong She is a smart man. He’s intentionally handing over his ’weakness’ to prove his reliability and sincerity. What’s more, he was even smarter for not spelling it out, yet still hitting the nail right on the head of what she was thinking.’

”Okay.”

Xie Shaokun immediately nodded.

He didn’t pick up on the hidden meaning in Hong She’s words at all. He only thought that this move would both solve Hong She’s worries and put Hong She’s mother under ’house arrest.’

’Killing two birds with one stone!’

Little Nannan, standing to the side, seemed to sense something but couldn’t quite figure it out.

”Little Flower.”

”You stay here and watch over Little Nannan and Little Ai.”

Xia Yu commanded.

Little Flower’s strength was beyond doubt, so having her protect Little Nannan and Little Ai was very reassuring.

Little Flower nodded.

Soon after breakfast, Xia Yu left with Hong She.

Easily slipping past the surveillance, the two of them ’borrowed’ a car and drove straight to the collection agency.

Xie Shaokun departed alone, heading straight for the residential complex where Hong She’s mother lived...
