Maybe My Soulmate! (GL)

Xu Xian had been tracking the Hua family’s movements for days. One cool, misty evening, she finally saw her chance. In a narrow alley in cangran, as the Hua eldest son was slipping through a side gate, Xu Xian struck swiftly. With practiced precision, she subdued him before he even had time to react. In one fluid motion, she bound his arms and legs, and before anyone could notice, she spirited him away to one of cangran’s secret prisons—a dark, hidden cell known only to a few trusted insiders.

Later that night, back at the secluded compound, Su Yubing found herself frustrated. ”Mo Yuxin,” she said with a lopsided smile, ”remember that Pill Mastery Technique I promised to show you? I almost forgot to pass it on until it was too late.”Mo Yuxin rolled her eyes and sighed, a mix of anger and amusement in her tone. ”I can’t believe you almost left me hanging again,” she replied. ”I’ve been banging my head against this spirit pill furnace for ages, and it wouldn’t work until you finally shared that technique with me.”Despite her irritation, Mo Yuxin couldn’t help but smile at Su Yubing’s carefree manner. ”Alright, alright,” she continued, ”now that I’ve got the technique, watch me work my magic.”

Under Su Yubing’s patient guidance, Mo Yuxin reconfigured the intricate formations on the spirit pill furnace. The instructions were clear but subtle—tiny adjustments here and there, a whispered incantation there—and soon enough, the furnace roared to life. Finally, the elixirs began to form correctly, each pill glowing with a vibrant energy that signified perfection. ”There,” Mo Yuxin said with a mix of triumph and playful reproach, ”you’d better remember to hand over complete technique on time next time!”Su Yubing just grinned, shrugging nonchalantly. ”Hey, you know I’m always fashionably late,” she teased. Their banter, light as it was, belied the underlying seriousness of their mission.

The next morning, the entire group—Mo Yuxin, Su Yubing, Bai Xuzhen, Bai Lingshu, Xu Xian, and Tianji Yuan—gathered near the dreaded cangran prison. The mood was tense as they prepared to use the forbidden spell, Soul Searching, to delve into the memories of the captured Hua eldest son. Although soul-searching was banned among most practitioners because of its dark nature, it was a technique that any monk with sufficient skill could learn. However, it came with a critical limitation: one could only search the soul of someone whose cultivation was lower than their own. And even then, if abused, it would invite condemnation from the very monks who once mastered it.

Gathered around the grim, reinforced cell, Tianji Yuan broke the silence. ”I really don’t like this feeling,” she admitted. ”Using forbidden magic always gives me the creeps.”Bai Qingzhen nodded, frowning. ”We have no other choice. We need answers—and fast.”

Inside the cell, the Hua eldest son lay bound and unconscious, his forehead glistening with cold sweat. His initial determination had turned into panic, and his face betrayed the terror of a man who felt completely trapped. He was like a chicken with its neck constricted, utterly helpless. ”I mean, cangran’s supposed to be impenetrable,” he thought miserably. ”The cangran monks are the best, right? So how did I end up here? What have I done to deserve this?”Deep inside, his mind raced with wild, despairing thoughts. Every minute that passed felt like a lifetime of uncertainty, as if his very existence were hanging by a fragile thread.

Back outside, Mo Yuxin stepped forward, holding a small vial containing a Nirvana Pill—a remedy as enigmatic as it was potent, shimmering with the dual colors of black and white reminiscent of Tai Chi. With a heavy heart and a tinge of sorrow, she took the pill from Su Yubing’s hand. ”This pill isn’t just medicine,” Mo Yuxin murmured, almost to herself. ”It’s the only way to reconstruct a shattered soul.”

Gently, she approached the Hua eldest son’s prone form and, without a word, placed her hand on his forehead. Almost immediately, a surge of her immense spiritual power flooded into his Niwan Palace—a crucial energy center in his body. The sensation was like a sudden wave washing over him, probing for any sign of collapse. Mo Yuxin’s eyes scanned his face; she could see his complexion had turned ashen, and his inner spiritual core was faltering. ”Hang on,” she whispered, flicking the Nirvana Pill into his mouth.

The effect wasn’t to suppress his failing consciousness or stabilize his energy directly. Rather, it began the painstaking process of rebuilding what had been broken—reconstructing his mind, layer by layer, as Mo Yuxin carefully searched for any evidence of tampering or hidden memories. The process was long and excruciating; as the forbidden Soul Searching took hold, the Hua eldest son shrank into himself, curling up in a ball, until only a pool of foul-smelling liquid remained—a symbol of his shattered will.

With a flash of anger—and a spark of sinister amusement—Mo Yuxin put away her tools with a flick of her sleeve. She strode out of the cell with Bai Tianji Yuan and Su Yubing trailing closely behind her.”Second Senior Sister, what just happened?” Bai Tianji Yuan asked, her voice trembling slightly with both fear and curiosity.Su Yubing, ever cool and composed, simply scanned the room as if looking for stray petals or a stray herb. ”It appears the Hua family has done something unthinkable,” she said slowly.Mo Yuxin’s voice was low and furious as she explained, ”They’ve captured a Thousand-Eyed Great Sage from the demon race and have been using his blood to breed their own kind, to cultivate the True Eye. Once they perfect that eye, they’ll be able to see through any disguise, track down any demon cub, and even exploit them for their own gain.” Tianji Yuan’s eyes widened in horror. ”What?! How could they do something so monstrous?” she exclaimed. ”That Great Sage was taken during the Battle of the wuhuan, wasn’t he? After that battle, humans and demons even joined forces to return all the captives. But somehow, the Hua family hid it all, making everyone believe the Great Sage was dead!”

Su Yubing added, her tone laced with bitter irony, ”And now, Jiang sang promised to hand over the whiteswan as a leverage to profit more, she is nothing but a cold blooded profi seeker. Everything ties back to Jiang ang’s schemes.”Bai Xuzhen interjected, ”Jiang Caisang can’t even stay in cangran anymore, can she? In the past, spending spirit stones was a trivial matter, but secretly colluding with the Hua family to exterminate the demon clan? Even if the Master steps out of seclusion, nothing will fix this!”

Xu Xian, who had been silent until now, finally spoke up. ”Look, I managed to capture the Hua eldest son because I had to—if we don’t expose this conspiracy, it’s only going to get worse. We’ve seen what happens when power is abused.”Bai Xuzhen added, ”Soul Searching might be forbidden, but sometimes, desperate times call for desperate measures. We owe it to both the demon and human worlds to uncover the truth.”

The room was thick with tension as Mo Yuxin stood up, brushing off the remnants of the soul-searching procedure. ”We have our answers,” she declared, her voice firm despite the underlying grief. ”The Hua family’s betrayal isn’t just a personal vendetta—it’s a threat to the entire balance of Jiuzhou. If this conspiracy is exposed, it could lead to another Long River War, one that might not end until countless lives are lost.”Bai Tianji Yuan’s eyes widened in shock. ”That’s… that’s insane. How could they think they could get away with something like this?”Su Yubing’s gaze hardened. ”It’s not just about getting away with it, Tianji. It’s about power—raw, unbridled ambition that has blinded them to the consequences. They’re so caught up in their own schemes that they’re willing to sacrifice everything, even the very lives of those they claim to protect.”

Mo Yuxin shook her head in disbelief. ”And the worst part is, the Master is asleep, oblivious to all this chaos. We have to wake him up before the entire system collapses.”Xu Xian nodded in agreement. ”Right now, we’re dealing with a ticking time bomb. The moment this secret gets out, there won’t be any stopping another war. The demon clan, already on edge after the last Wuhuan battle, might strike first.”Bai Xuzhen added, ”And let’s not forget Jiang Caisang’s role in all this. If she’s colluding with the Hua family, then even the slightest misstep could trigger a full-blown conflict. We need to get to the bottom of this before it’s too late.”

As the group continued their discussion, their conversation took on a casual, almost disbelieving tone—like old friends sharing dark secrets over coffee. Yet beneath the casual chatter, there was an undercurrent of urgency. Every word, every detail, underscored the gravity of the situation.Tianji Yuan, who had been quiet until now, broke the silence with a wry smile. ”You know,” she said, ”it’s almost ironic. We’re using a forbidden technique to uncover forbidden truths. The more things change, the more they stay the same.”Su Yubing chuckled softly. ”I guess that’s the way of the world. Sometimes you have to get your hands dirty to keep everything from falling apart.”

Their banter was brief, as each member of the group was lost in their own thoughts. The revelation of the Great Sage’s exploitation had shaken them all. The Hua family’s treachery was not just a personal affront—it was a dangerous precedent that could unravel the delicate peace between humans and demons.Mo Yuxin, still fuming from both the technical mishap with her spirit pill furnace and the shocking discovery, took a deep breath. ”Alright, everyone,” she said, regaining her composure, ”let’s prepare to report this to the Master. We need to move quickly. If this conspiracy is allowed to fester, it might just set the stage for another war.”

The group nodded in agreement. They gathered their belongings and made their way out of the prison, each step heavy with the weight of the revelations. As they left the cold, oppressive cell behind, the bonds between them—formed through shared hardship and the pursuit of truth—grew even stronger. They knew that what lay ahead would be perilous, but they also understood that the fate of both the human and demon worlds depended on their actions.

Walking together under the pale light of dawn, their conversation continued in a mixture of urgency and camaraderie. Bai Xuzhen remarked, ”I never thought we’d be forced to use such dark magic. But sometimes, you just have to do what you have to do.” Tianji Yuan replied, ”Yeah, it’s like that old saying—when there’s no other way, you make your own way.”Xu Xian added with a wry smile, ”And here I was thinking our biggest problem today would be catching a guy. Turns out, we’re on the brink of a full-scale conspiracy.”Tianji Yuan sighed, ”Let’s just hope that when we finally wake the Master, he’s in a better mood than usual.”

Their light-hearted remarks masked the tension simmering beneath the surface. None of them could shake the feeling that the Hua family’s actions would have far-reaching consequences. With each step toward cangran Peak, the reality of what they had uncovered loomed larger. They were about to confront not only the treachery of one family but an entire network of deceit that threatened to plunge the world into chaos.

As the horizon blushed with the first hints of sunrise, Mo Yuxin looked at her companions and said, ”We might not have all the answers yet, but one thing is clear: the Hua family’s betrayal is a ticking time bomb. And if we don’t act now, everything we know could come crashing down.”Su Yubing, with a resolute look, added, ”Then let’s make sure we’re the ones who defuse it before it’s too late.”
