Maybe My Soulmate! (GL)

Mo Yuxin hesitated. She glanced at Su Yubing, whose eyes were half-closed, her breathing shallow. The journey down the mountain, coupled with the earlier altercation, had clearly taken a toll.

”Very well,” Mo Yuxin conceded, her voice resigned. ”We’ll take it.”

She couldn’t leave Su Yubing like this. The woman needed rest, and the nearest town was still a considerable distance away. Even if Mo Yuxin could carry her, the rough terrain would only exacerbate her injuries.

As they ascended the creaking stairs, Mo Yuxin’s mind raced. Sharing a room with Su Yubing was... unexpected. They were companions, yes, but their relationship was still strained, marked by the lingering shadow of Mo Yuxin’s amnesia.

The room, when they entered, was small but cozy. A single bed dominated the space, its thick quilts promising warmth against the night’s chill. A small fireplace stood in one corner, its embers glowing softly.

Mo Yuxin helped Su Yubing to the bed, her movements careful and gentle. ”Are you comfortable?” she asked, her voice soft.

”Yes,” Su Yubing murmured, her eyes fluttering open. ”Thank you, Yuxin.”

Mo Yuxin nodded, her gaze lingering on Su Yubing’s pale face. She felt a pang of concern, a familiar warmth that she couldn’t quite explain.

”I’ll start a fire,” she said, turning towards the hearth.

As she knelt before the fireplace, arranging the kindling, she felt Su Yubing’s gaze on her. It was a quiet, contemplative stare, one that made Mo Yuxin feel strangely exposed.

”Yuxin,” Su Yubing called out, her voice soft.

Mo Yuxin turned, her brow furrowed. ”Yes?”

”There’s only one bed,” Su Yubing said, her voice matter-of-fact.

Mo Yuxin’s cheeks flushed slightly. ”I’ll take the floor,” she said, her voice firm.

”Don’t be ridiculous,” Su Yubing retorted, her voice laced with a hint of amusement. ”You’ll catch a chill.”

”I’m a cultivator,” Mo Yuxin replied, her voice dry. ”I don’t catch chills.”

”Even cultivators can get cold,” Su Yubing countered, her eyes twinkling. ”Besides, I’m not going to let you sleep on the floor.”

Mo Yuxin hesitated. She didn’t want to impose, but she also didn’t want to argue. Su Yubing’s logic was sound, even if her tone was playfully teasing.

”Very well,” Mo Yuxin conceded, her voice resigned. ”We’ll share the bed.”

She moved towards the bed, her movements stiff and awkward. She sat on the edge, her gaze fixed on the flickering flames in the fireplace.

”Come here,” Su Yubing said, patting the space beside her.

Mo Yuxin hesitated, then slowly lay down beside Su Yubing, her body tense. She kept a respectful distance, her gaze fixed on the ceiling.

”Relax, Yuxin,” Su Yubing murmured, her voice soft. ”I’m not going to bite.”

Mo Yuxin’s cheeks flushed again, but she remained silent. She couldn’t shake the feeling of unease, a strange mix of apprehension and longing.

”Just go to sleep,” Su Yubing said, her voice gentle. ”We’ll figure things out in the morning.”

Mo Yuxin nodded, her eyes fluttering closed. She tried to relax, to ignore the warmth radiating from Su Yubing’s body beside her. But her mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions, a confusing mix of familiarity and uncertainty.

As she drifted off to sleep, she felt Su Yubing shift closer, her warmth enveloping her. She didn’t resist, allowing herself to be drawn into the comforting embrace. It was a strange, unfamiliar comfort, yet it felt strangely right.

The first rays of dawn crept through the inn’s window, painting the room in soft, golden hues. A gentle warmth filled the air, a stark contrast to the chill of the previous night. Mo Yuxin stirred, her eyelids fluttering open. A sense of disorientation washed over her, the unfamiliar surroundings taking a moment to register.

Then, she felt it – a soft, warm weight against her side. Her breath hitched as she realized Su Yubing was nestled against her, her head resting on Mo Yuxin’s arm, her body curled close. Mo Yuxin’s heart pounded in her chest, a frantic rhythm that threatened to betray her composure.

She was acutely aware of the warmth of Su Yubing’s breath against her skin, the gentle rise and fall of her chest. Mo Yuxin’s cheeks flushed crimson, a wave of shyness washing over her. She couldn’t move, couldn’t even breathe properly, for fear of disturbing Su Yubing.

It was an intimate scene, one that felt both familiar and foreign. The lingering echoes of her lost memories whispered of a time when such closeness was commonplace, a comfortable familiarity. But now, it was a source of intense, bewildering shyness.

Mo Yuxin’s mind raced, trying to reconcile the warmth of Su Yubing’s presence with the lingering uncertainty of their relationship. She wanted to pull away, to regain her composure, but she couldn’t bring herself to break the peaceful stillness of the moment.

She remained frozen, her body tense, her gaze fixed on the ceiling. She tried to slow her racing heart, to calm the frantic flutter in her stomach, but it was a losing battle. The warmth of Su Yubing’s body, the softness of her breath, was a constant, distracting presence.

A soft sigh escaped Su Yubing’s lips, and she shifted slightly, her head turning towards Mo Yuxin’s face. Mo Yuxin’s breath caught in her throat, her eyes widening slightly. She held her breath, hoping Su Yubing wouldn’t wake up.

But it was too late. Su Yubing’s eyelids fluttered open, her gaze meeting Mo Yuxin’s. A slow, mischievous smile spread across Su Yubing’s face.

”Good morning, Yuxin,” she murmured, her voice soft and teasing.

Mo Yuxin’s cheeks flushed even deeper, her gaze darting away. ”Good morning,” she mumbled, her voice barely audible.

”Did you sleep well?” Su Yubing asked, her smile widening.

Mo Yuxin nodded, her gaze still fixed on the ceiling. ”Yes,” she whispered.

”You seem tense,” Su Yubing observed, her voice laced with amusement. ”Are you uncomfortable?”

”No,” Mo Yuxin insisted, her voice firm. ”I’m perfectly comfortable.”

”Are you sure?” Su Yubing teased, her hand reaching up to gently stroke Mo Yuxin’s cheek. ”You’re as stiff as a board.”

Mo Yuxin’s cheeks flushed even brighter, her gaze finally meeting Su Yubing’s. ”I’m fine,” she repeated, her voice strained.

”If you say so,” Su Yubing chuckled, her eyes twinkling. ”But you’re awfully red. Are you feeling unwell?”

”No,” Mo Yuxin insisted, her voice sharp. ”I’m perfectly healthy.”

”Then why are you blushing?” Su Yubing asked, her voice playful. ”Are you embarrassed?”

Mo Yuxin’s cheeks burned. She couldn’t deny the truth, but she couldn’t bring herself to admit it either.

”Perhaps a little,” she mumbled, her voice barely a whisper.

Su Yubing’s smile softened, her eyes filled with warmth. ”There’s no need to be embarrassed, Yuxin,” she said, her voice gentle. ”We’re taoist companion, aren’t we?”

”Well, I don’t remember.” Mo Yuxin whispered, her gaze dropping to the bedsheets.

”You don’t need to remember. We are so there’s no need to be shy,” Su Yubing reassured, her hand gently cupping Mo Yuxin’s chin, tilting her face up. ”We’re just sharing a bed.”

Mo Yuxin’s heart pounded in her chest, her breath catching in her throat. Su Yubing’s touch was warm, comforting, yet it sent a shiver of excitement through her body.

”I know,” she whispered, her gaze locking with Su Yubing’s.

”Good,” Su Yubing murmured, her smile widening. ”Now, how about we get some breakfast?”

Mo Yuxin nodded, her gaze still locked with Su Yubing’s. She felt a strange sense of peace, a quiet understanding that transcended the lingering uncertainty of her amnesia.

They rose from the bed, a comfortable silence settling between them. The awkwardness of the morning had dissipated, replaced by a sense of warmth and familiarity.

As they descended the stairs, the inn’s common room was bustling with activity. The aroma of freshly baked bread and sizzling bacon filled the air, a comforting scent that made Mo Yuxin’s stomach rumble.

They found a table by the window, the morning sun streaming in, casting a warm glow across the room. The innkeeper approached, her smile warm and welcoming.

”Good morning, dearies,” she said, her voice cheerful. ”Did you sleep well?”

”Very well, thank you,” Su Yubing replied, her smile radiant.

”What can I get for you this morning?” the innkeeper asked.

”Two breakfasts, please,” Su Yubing said, her gaze shifting to Mo Yuxin. ”With extra bacon.”

Mo Yuxin chuckled, her gaze meeting Su Yubing’s. ”Of course,” she said, her voice light.

As they waited for their breakfast, a comfortable silence settled between them. Mo Yuxin gazed out the window, watching the town come to life. The morning was bright and clear, the air filled with the promise of a new day.

She felt Su Yubing’s gaze on her, a gentle warmth that made her smile. She turned, her gaze meeting Su Yubing’s.

”What are you looking at? Mo Yuxin said, her voice soft.

”Well, looking at the beautiful face of my taoist companion, why, I can’t?” Su Yubing asked, her brow furrowed.

”Well, do as you wish.” Mo Yuxin replied, her smile widening unconsciously.

Su Yubing’s smile softened, her eyes filled with warmth. ”Thank you for being so generous.” she said, her voice gentle.
