Chapter 972: Chapter 60: Impatience?

Arriving at the small wooden door deep inside the tree house, Su Xiao pushed it open. Although the door was small, the space behind it was quite large. It was a well-equipped alchemy lab, about a hundred square meters, filled with various alchemy apparatus and a vast array of materials.

From the state of some liquid alchemy materials within the alchemy lab, it was clear that this lab had not been used for quite some time.

Entering the alchemy lab, Su Xiao felt a tinge of regret. If he could have obtained more alchemy knowledge from the Tree Sage, his alchemy skills would have transformed dramatically. Unfortunately, his relationship with the Tree Sage was just average. The Tree Sage’s agreement to teach him alchemy biology manufacturing was merely a transaction. Learning more alchemy knowledge was nearly impossible, at least not from the Tree Sage.

As for improving his relationship with the Tree Sage, that would be a waste of time. Su Xiao was very ’confident’ in his own charm attributes.

Su Xiao’s expectations weren’t high; he only aimed to elevate alchemical biology to Level 20, as reaching Level 20 is considered full level in alchemy skills.

Although time was limited, Su Xiao wasn’t in a hurry to start manufacturing an alchemy raven. Instead, he began flipping through the ancient book in his hand, scanning through it line by line.

This ancient book, titled ”Origin of Alchemical Creatures,” spent the first third explaining the origins of alchemical creatures. Su Xiao had no curiosity about how alchemical creatures came into being; he only wanted to know how to create them, so he skipped the first third.

Upon reaching the section on the creation of alchemical creatures, Su Xiao began to read attentively. The alchemy recorded in the book differed somewhat from what he knew, though the principles were similar.

The more he read this ancient book, heavy enough to smash an enemy, the more Su Xiao marveled at the wonder of alchemy: combining a pile of ’lifeless’ materials to create alchemical creatures. Most alchemical creatures lacked intelligence; the wolf steward type was an exception among exceptions.

As long as an alchemist wasn’t foolish, they wouldn’t give alchemical creatures independent thought, as it wasn’t a breakthrough but rather a self-inflicted problem.

Ensuring alchemical creatures had their own will was a problem solved many years ago. In the ensuing years, countless alchemists proved that once alchemical creatures gained self-awareness, they longed for freedom, with their creator, the alchemist, being the biggest obstacle to that freedom. Thus, many alchemists perished at the hands of their own alchemical creations.

It’s not that alchemical creatures can’t be given intelligence, but there must be a limit. For example, combat-type alchemical creatures only need to know how to fight. Excess intelligence won’t result in gratitude towards the creator but rather repeated bloody lessons.

If Su Xiao were to create alchemical creatures, he certainly wouldn’t grant them independent consciousness. In battle, alchemical creatures would be controlled by Bubu Wang, not relying on the creatures’ own combat skills. Alchemical creatures only needed power, speed, and so forth.

”I see, it’s unwise to engrave an array at the core of an alchemical creature; doing so would make the core a vulnerability.”

Su Xiao flipped through the ancient book quickly. His study of alchemy had never been systematic, but now, getting hold of this ancient book, he was like a shriveled sponge rapidly absorbing alchemy knowledge.

Several hours later, Su Xiao closed the ancient book. The knowledge in this book couldn’t be mastered overnight, so he spent about half an hour backing it up. The Tree Sage wouldn’t mind Su Xiao making a copy of this ancient book.

Su Xiao got up and approached the experimental table, ready to start manufacturing the alchemy raven. If he were an ordinary alchemist, quickly improving one’s alchemy skills would be impossible. But he wasn’t an ordinary alchemist; his alchemy skills belonged to a category of knowledge skills that could be rapidly improved by manufacturing alchemy products.

Moreover, as soon as he entered this room, Su Xiao realized he could freely manufacture alchemy items here to his heart’s content.

In the center of the room was an oval-shaped rock, blue at the tip, emitting a hazy blue light. This blue light resembled an aura ability.

Upon entering the room, Su Xiao received a notification.

[Notification: The Hunter is within the radiation range of the Magic Spring, recovering 5 Mana Value per second. This effect disappears once in combat or after leaving the Magic Spring by 20 meters.]

In this room, there’s no worry about Mana Value exhaustion. As a renowned alchemist, the Tree Sage had certainly solved the issue of insufficient Mana Value, which is a stable energy and the preferred choice for material catalysis.

To manufacture an alchemy raven, the following materials are needed: Pseudo-living skeleton (3 units), Demon Crystal Core (1 unit), Biological Magic Guide Organization (2 units), Soul Fragments (4 units).

Besides these materials, Su Xiao will consume 150 Mana Value to catalyze these materials.

The pseudo-living skeleton, demon crystal core, and biological magic guide organization materials were easy to solve. Substitutes for these materials could be found everywhere in the room, even higher-level materials. As for the soul fragments (4 units), acquiring these was trickier. Soul fragments are made from breaking small soul crystals into fragments.

Su Xiao began searching in the room. The Tree Sage wouldn’t have made such a basic mistake. Soon, he found a type of fiery red wooden block on the material rack. Preliminary research showed this could substitute for soul fragments. This fiery red wooden block gave Su Xiao a familiar feeling, which he quickly identified as likely originating from those tree men he had seen earlier.

Piling up the required materials on the experimental table, Su Xiao buried his head in the task of manufacturing the alchemy raven, working nonstop.

In the tree house parlor, a transparent stone tablet hovered in front of the Tree Sage, displaying a scene of Su Xiao manufacturing the alchemy raven.

The Tree Sage’s previous demeanor seemed casual, but he wasn’t about to ignore an Annihilator in the tree house.

”Strange mastery method,” he commented.

The Tree Sage had initially expected Su Xiao to study that ancient book for days. Instead, Su Xiao researched it for just about an hour, brazenly copied it, and then began manufacturing the alchemy raven.

”How is his progress?”

Lilymu curiously came closer.

”It’s okay,” the Tree Sage replied with his mouth while categorizing Su Xiao as impatient for success in his mind.

”Lilymu, how about learning some alchemy?”

”No, alchemy is too troublesome. Just looking at that pile of materials gives me a headache. All that catalysis, fission, I’ll pass,” Lilymu responded.

Lilymu’s attitude was casual, unlike her previous restraint. It’s not that she disrespected the Tree Sage; rather, she was very familiar with him. She had lived in this tree house for quite a while when she was young. In her heart, the Tree Sage was a kind and friendly elder.

From the alchemy items Lilymu wore, it was evident that the Tree Sage was very fond of her. Some of these high-level alchemy items weren’t even owned by some Demon God-tier demons.

”Knowledge is always a good thing to have,” the Tree Sage’s weary old eyes held a hint of helplessness. Lilymu was his favorite successor, yet she had no interest in alchemy. When she was young, forced to learn alchemy, she cried countless times. The Tree Sage had neither descendants nor other successors. Thinking of the past, a gentle smile spread on his face.

”Alright, alright,” Lilymu said, starting to wander around the tree house, occasionally picking up an alchemy item to fiddle with.

At this moment, the Su Xiao, whom the Tree Sage perceived as being too hasty, was advancing alchemical biology manufacturing at an astonishing pace, faster than the Tree Sage could have imagined.

Su Xiao had two objectives this time: the first was to elevate alchemical biology manufacturing to Level 20, and the second was to attempt surpassing Level 20.
