Chapter 969: Chapter 57: Reluctant Allies

When Su Xiao reappeared, it was behind the Little Giant, and he brandished the Dragon Slash in his hands, slashing repeatedly.

Slash, slash...

Dense slash marks appeared on the Little Giant’s back, broken armor fragments and blood splattered everywhere. A large amount of Blue Steel Shadow Energy invaded the Little Giant’s body. In an instant, Su Xiao delivered over ten slashes, triggering the Soul Electrification effect.

With a flash, his figure vanished, leaving a pit on the yellow sand with the impact. He appeared in front of the Little Giant.

Su Xiao held the knife with both hands, raised it, and slashed down, causing blood to spray as a huge head flew off. The execution was smooth and fluid, decisive and efficient.

After receiving a full-force kick from Su Xiao, the combat was no longer a fight but a one-sided slaughter.

Thud, the Little Giant’s head hit the ground, while copious blood gushed from the neck of the headless body, soaking into the yellow sand and congealing into a large mass.

Blood slid down along the blade of Dragon Slash. Su Xiao flicked the long knife, and a cascade of blood droplets flew off. He sheathed the long knife and walked towards the spectator area for participants.

After a moment of deathly silence, deafening cheers filled the Battle Arena. Large sheets of paper flew up, thrown by the audience members whose faces were filled with displeasure. The Arena had set up betting odds, where Su Xiao’s odds were 1 to 0.2, and the Little Giant’s odds were 1 to 10. Which contestant the audience bet on was left to chance. Before the fight started, the organizers wouldn’t provide information about the participants, unless it was a special case like Su Xiao’s, where they would disclose a bit to enhance the Arena’s reputation this season. Also, participants were prohibited from engaging in any form of betting.

”So, this is the Annihilator, quite the reputation to live up to.”

”Both had similar Basic Abilities, but the battle was completely one-sided. Those few slashes were like graceful butchery.”

”No wonder it’s like this; the Annihilator indeed ushered in an era.”

The cheers gradually subsided, and the audience began to discuss the match.

”No wonder he’s an ally of our Demon Clan; that beheading was decisive enough.”

”Even so, this Annihilator is still in his growth phase. Why did he participate in the Arena? This will expose his identity.”

”Not sure, but before this, a new Successor of the Shadow of Annihilation Law appeared, and only we received the news.”

Ignoring the audience’s reactions and Commentator Hak’s evaluations of the match, Su Xiao mused on the level of combat strength he had now achieved as he walked towards the spectator area for participants.

The Demon Hunting Suit and Intuition Ability greatly enhanced his close combat. Thinking of the Demon Hunting Suit, he checked the Set Attributes of the Demon Hunting Suit 3.

Set Effect 3: Demon Hunting Spoils (Passive), Spoils Value 1.4%.

The Spoils Value increased by 1.4%, not much but not insignificant either, considering his frequency of battles. It won’t be long before the Spoils Value reaches 100%. By then, consuming Soul Crystal (Large) ×5 + Source of Birth (Gold) ×3, the three-piece Demon Hunting Suit can be upgraded to Golden Quality, and the increase in the Demon Hunting Suit will surely be astounding by then.

If before obtaining the Demon Hunting Suit and Intuition Ability, Su Xiao could defeat the Little Giant, he wouldn’t have won so effortlessly. Throughout the fight, the Little Giant was unable to harm Su Xiao at all, as the audience called it, this was an elegant slaughter.

The Little Giant had immense strength and was battle-hardened, yet his speed was inadequate. With Su Xiao’s enhanced Perception from the Intuition Ability, the speed gap was lethal, making it impossible for the Little Giant to reach Su Xiao. As for a war of attrition, Su Xiao wouldn’t give the opponent a chance.

The enhancements from the Demon Hunting Suit were also obvious, with Su Xiao’s previous attacks directly breaking armor and defenses, boasting a 40% increase in Close Combat Attack Power.

No wonder so many vie for the Demon Hunting Suit, the high ability enhancement makes it irresistible for close combatants.

Moreover, with the 20% increase in Maximum Life Value, Su Xiao’s battle style was bolder. As long as vital points weren’t hit, most enemies couldn’t take him down in seconds. For instance, during his battle with the Little Giant, he repeatedly put himself within the Little Giant’s best attack range. Without the 20% increase in Maximum Life Value, he wouldn’t have dared so.

Overall, Su Xiao’s Dodge ability was significantly enhanced, Attack Power greatly boosted, and he possessed Life Value exceeding that of the Main Tank, laying a solid foundation for his close combat.

Returning to the audience seating, Lilymu smiled brightly, while the other contestants watched Su Xiao warily. Some had already noted down his number, secretly praying not to face him.

”Gods and Buddhas, please don’t match me with this monster, Amen.”

The Detective Little Girl sat not far away. She knew Su Xiao’s strength wasn’t weak but hadn’t witnessed his battle firsthand until a few minutes ago.

The Detective Little Girl was now very clear, although she had hidden trump cards, facing Su Xiao directly would surely be like rubbing her face into the sand, even creating sparks from friction.

”Congratulations on winning the first round.”

Lilymu spoke up. Although she suspected Su Xiao had inherited the Will of Annihilation Law or was generally extreme in his philosophy, she genuinely congratulated him on winning the first match.

”What exactly is the Black Abyss? I’ve just heard it’s a dangerous natural landscape within the Void.”

”The Black Abyss...”

Lilymu hesitated for a moment before finally shaking her head.

”You don’t need to know for now, definitely shouldn’t know.”

”Why?”

Su Xiao asked, puzzled, turning his head to look at Lilymu.

”Well, how should I put it...”

Lilymu started considering her words. She didn’t want to brush Su Xiao off but wanted to put it more tactfully.

”Although we haven’t known each other long, I’ve noticed you have a strong curiosity for the unknown. No, it should be a strong desire to explore. If I tell you what the Black Abyss is, you might try to find a way there. With your current combat strength, you’d survive the outermost shallow end of the Black Abyss, but if you delve a hundred meters deep, you’d surely die.”

Lilymu glanced around, noticing no one was watching her, and then quietly unzipped her cropped leather jacket, revealing a black snake tattoo. Upon closer inspection, it was hiding a scar.

”I left this behind after entering the Black Abyss, and my father and brother were right beside me. Without them, I would have died back then.”

Lilymu glanced around, and as soon as someone tried to look away, she quickly zipped up her leather jacket.

”Not to mention my father’s and brother’s strength, even back then I was stronger than you are now. Don’t be fooled by my appearance now; I’m a high-level demon. Very strong, the kind that could hang you up and whip you.”

Lilymu clenched her fist in a show of defiance.

”If you increase your strength by several dozens of times, you’d pretty much be able to explore the Black Abyss on your own. How to describe that place? Different people have different gains when they enter, yes, that’s a fitting description.”

Su Xiao’s eyes showed contemplation, as he initially gathered some information about the Black Abyss.

”I won’t stay here long. After this session of the Arena ends, I’ll be leaving.”

Su Xiao took out an apple and bit into it with a crunch. The sweet and sour juices exploded in his mouth; apple is one of his favorite fruits.

”Is that so? Then you’re probably leaving in three to five days. The Arena’s pace is quite intense, increasingly so as it progresses. By the way, when I came, my father asked me to convey something. He once fought alongside an Annihilator, and during a battle, one of them saved his life. My father has always wanted to thank that Annihilator but never had the chance. Annihilators vanished too quickly, so quickly that the Demon Clan didn’t even have the opportunity to support them.

Now that you’re here, my father wants me to ask if you have any requests? Perhaps a certain ability? Or perhaps precious resources? Although these things wouldn’t be enough to repay that life-saving grace, you aren’t exactly that Annihilator either.”

Lilymu’s words left Su Xiao momentarily stunned. As he fought his way here, he had never encountered an ally offering gifts, making him instinctively suspect some kind of plot.

On second thought, the Demon Clan is one of the major races within the Void. If they bore him any malice, they wouldn’t need to go about it in such a roundabout way.

From Lilymu’s words, Su Xiao gleaned that he could make a request to the Demon Clan. It seemed like an opportunity to demand treasures, but in reality, it was the Demon Clan testing his character.

Should Su Xiao request a specific treasure, the Demon Clan would indeed find a way to obtain it, but this would make Su Xiao’s relationship with the Demon Clan gradually fade into indifference, as opposed to the relationship between Annihilators and the Demon Clan becoming indistinct.

As for eternal allies, that’s a sign of the Demon Clan keeping their promises. They are eternal allies with the Shadow of Annihilation Law, but the Shadow of Annihilation Law is an organization, not an individual. The Shadow of Annihilation Law consists of people with varying personalities; the Demon Clan wouldn’t treat all Shadows as allies. Doing so would make them naive or too stubborn.

The Shadow of Annihilation Law and the Demon Clan are allies, not bound by hierarchy. The baseline for allies is non-aggression, while good allies engage in mutual cooperation.

Su Xiao’s decision would allow the Demon Clan to determine whether to engage in non-aggression with him, or to engage in future cooperation.

”Help me improve my alchemy.”

”Alchemy? Which branch?”

”Creature Creation Studies.”

Su Xiao made his choice.

”You’re not asking for a specific treasure? We are quite sincere.”

”As for treasure, I’ll go get it myself later.”

”Get...”

Lilymu was speechless; shouldn’t he have said ’I’ll acquire it myself’? What’s with that ’get’ blurt? The Shadows of Annihilation Law are truly just a bunch of ’bandits’.

”Er~ this~”

Lilymu hesitated, not because the request was too high, but rather it was too simple.

”Can’t do it, then forget it.”

Upon hearing this, Lilymu’s heart skipped a beat. Clearly, Su Xiao wasn’t extremely greedy, but she wished he were. Su Xiao seemed too dangerous to her; words like peace don’t relate to this human male.

”Of course... it can be done, but it also requires your personal effort. Enhancing alchemy is an accumulation of knowledge, at most I can provide an environment where you can quickly improve in Creature Creation Studies.”

”In return, what do you require me to do for the Demon Clan?”

”Oh~ as mentioned earlier, this is a unilateral gesture of thanks, requiring no return.”

”You also said before, I am not that Annihilator.”

Su Xiao discarded the apple core, knowing there’s no such thing as a free lunch in the world; even if there is, it’s a low-grade lunch he doesn’t wish to eat.

Lilymu sighed inwardly; this ally is more reliable than imagined, yet she doesn’t wish for such reliable allies. She can’t keep up with this ally’s thinking; that ’get’ blurt bothers her.

”Follow me, there should be some time before your next match. Oh, and don’t take anything later!”

”Do you take me for a bandit?”

”You are.”

”Seems you have some misunderstanding about me.”

”You just blurted out, if you want treasure, go get it.”

”Won’t you get your enemy’s treasure?”

Lilymu remained speechless, taking a long breath.
