Chapter 961: Chapter 49: None Can Stop

Su Xiao’s initial goal is to ’break through’ from 260 people and advance to the top 20.

The Void Colosseum adopts an elimination system. After receiving the tag number, the first round of drawing begins. Since the number of participants is an integer, there are no empty slots in the first round.

Su Xiao observes the tag in his hand. It’s about the size of a playing card. One side has 106 written on it, while the other side shows three different patterns. At the top is a hexagonal pattern representing some faction, the center features a Crown, which he’s seen once in the Ancient Castle, likely representing Alice’s faction, and the bottom is a circular pattern, resembling some currency from the Void, representing three factions.

Su Xiao did not see the pattern he hoped for the most: the Demon Goat Head. If that pattern appeared on the tag, things would be much simpler.

After a random selection by the notary office, the order of participation in the first round appears, and the tag in Su Xiao’s hand changes, showing an additional number, 51, which is the number of his opponent in the first round.

Before taking the stage, Su Xiao is unlikely to know who Participant number 51 is, as all 260 participants will try to hide their numbers before the first round of combat skills begins.

A ladder-shaped chart appears on the screen of the notary office. Currently, all participants are on the bottom layer of the chart. Winners will advance upward on the ladder chart, while losers will miss out on the opportunity. As for resurrection matches, there are no such rules.

The Void Colosseum is very dangerous, with a high probability of death after defeat. Even if not dead, one will be severely injured, so there’s no necessity for a resurrection match, nor can it be conducted.

Su Xiao needs to go through several matches to reach the top 20. They are:

First match: From 260 to 130 participants.

Second match: From 130 to 65 participants.

Third match: From 65 to 33 participants.

Fourth match: From 33 to 17 participants.

The rest time between each match is not short. After all, there is only one arena, and the early matches have ample resting time, becoming tighter in later stages.

The rules of the Void Colosseum are few or say there are basically no rules. Even powerful explosives, if acquired, can be used in the arena, and mechas are commonplace.

Due to the lack of rules, the mortality rate among participants is extremely high. It’s been statistically recorded that the mortality rate in the Void Arena is around 40% to 50%.

In other words, out of 10 people entering here, only one or two can walk out unharmed, and the rest of the survivors might lose limbs, while four to five will be carried out horizontally.

Despite such a terrifying rate of casualties, there are still so many participants in the Void Colosseum, showing how enticing the rewards are here.

Moreover, it’s also a great chance for making a mark. Those who can secure high positions will quit the competition around the top 20 and then accept recruitment from major factions.

The colosseum is not merely for watching matches. Compared to ticket sales, the ’sponsorship fees’ from major factions are even more lucrative. After paying the fees, those factions gain the qualification to recruit talent within the Void Colosseum.

Yellow sand, blood, boiling battles, the honor of first place, countless opportunities, and desirable rewards — these are the reasons for the prosperity of the Void Colosseum over the centuries.

Su Xiao walks toward the direction of the Battle Arena through the contestant passage, with other participants nearby. The participants maintain mutual alertness, as nobody knows who their opponents are yet. The Void Colosseum is fair, as evident from Alice having to use flyers to frame Su Xiao.

Alice should not be able to pull any tricks during the competition, especially since there are two other factions besides the organizer. Hence, Alice must resort to legitimate means like propagating Su Xiao’s identity as the Shadow of Annihilation Law, thereby setting enemies against him, rather than tripping him up during the match.

Once the competition begins, it’s absolutely fair. Should Alice start some underhanded moves, the other two major factions won’t stand by idly, as their reputation for the colosseum is hard-earned and can’t be tarnished by Alice’s personal vendetta.

Through the contestant passage, Su Xiao arrives at the central arena. He’s located in the contestants’ observing section, below the ordinary audience stand, closest to the yellow sand field center.

”Hoo!!!”

A tidal wave of cheers comes, reaching deafening levels. Imagine the grand spectacle of millions from various races cheering.

Su Xiao hasn’t even entered the stage. Just hearing the cheers, he faintly feels his blood rushing through his body.

The audience stand is a lively scene, and various races Su Xiao has never seen abound here, like the race resembling the Giant Troll with two heads. This two-headed Giant Troll is curiously amusing, holding snacks, feeding each head with separate hands, and both heads occasionally argue due to some disputes, showing these two heads have differing thoughts — one body, two heads, two minds.

Compared to the two-headed Giant Troll, some races no longer appear humanoid, like the Octopus sprawled on the audience stand.

This Octopus holds a large goblet with its tentacles, as large as a water tank, seemingly filled with beer.

The Octopus gulps several mouthfuls of beer, burps drunkenly, and lifts a tentacle to shout.

”Kill her~~~”

Brother Octopus speaks with a tremor, while drunkenly swaying and laughing foolishly.

An Octopus drinking beer is already bizarre, but don’t worry, there’s something even more ’bizarre.’

”Wahaha, all of you stay the heck away from me.”

A loud laugh comes from the front of the audience stand; it’s a Mouse Person holding a bottle of strong liquor, cuddling a ’Lalata Star’ Meng Mei. Lalata Star people are almost indistinguishable from humanity, except for a few distinct animal traits. This planet is famous for its beauty, and this exhibition match invited over a dozen ’Lalata Star’ Meng Meis.

And now, this Mouse Person is cuddling a ’Lalata Star’ Meng Mei, who isn’t a regular audience member, but originally participated in the exhibition match.

The Mouse Person is nearly provoking the organizers, yet no one steps forward.

It’s not that they don’t want to step forward, but they dare not. This Mouse Person is called Mr. Mouse, leaving aside his impressive strength; it’s what’s behind him that’s most terrifying. That terrifying existence has many titles — Planet Destroyer, War Disaster, Source of Life Disasters, Void Swordsman, The Strongest Lunatic in the Void, Drunk Madman, and dozens of others.

This existence within the Void has a fearsome reputation, so daunting that when it appears near any planet, the defenses of those planets are swiftly removed. It’s not a welcome but an act of no longer daring to resist. The consequence of resistance is too grave, and devastation of races can occur in an instant.

According to statistics from major factions, the number of beings directly or indirectly dying at the hands of this existence is measured in billions; as for the specific figure, it’s impossible to determine.

Thus, no one dares to stop Mr. Mouse’s antics in the colosseum. Not because they don’t want to, but because they fear it. Even lending Alice ten guts, she wouldn’t dare provoke Mr. Mouse. Although the terrifying existence behind Mr. Mouse hasn’t appeared for many years, rumored to have disappeared in the deepest depths of the Black Abyss.

Who knows whether that existence is dead? If not, what if he’s still alive, rashly provoking Mr. Mouse? The outcome would be unimaginable. That existence is notoriously protective. Years ago, some race besieged Mr. Mouse, and not long after, that race vanished from the Void, not a single one remaining.

Even without that existence, the force under Mr. Mouse is formidable, a troop known for manically laughing while slaying enemies in war. Engaging in war with them demands an unbearable price.
