Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Outside the cabin, the rain poured relentlessly.

The floodwaters from Chang City surged violently towards Rao City.

Xu Chengcai listened to the sound of the torrential rain outside, barefoot, while the small cabin, thanks to the burning firewood, reached a temperature of nearly twenty degrees.

Also, because of the roof structure of the cabin, smoke was vented through a five-centimeter gap between the walls and the roof, eliminating the risk of poisoning.

Inside the warm, dry cabin.

Xu Chengcai poured hot water from the iron bucket into a plastic basin, then placed the iron bucket outside, and it filled up halfway in less than half a minute.

He placed the iron bucket back over the flames to boil the water again.

After doing all this.

Xu Chengcai and his son both took brushes and vigorously scrubbed the mud off their bodies.

He placed a cloth in the hot water, wetting his hair and body, then took out some shampoo he found in a small storage and scrubbed his hair.

Due to the tangled state of his hair, he washed for a long time before straightening it out. Seeing his son grimace in pain from hair-pulling, Xu Chengcai chuckled and said, ”I’ll cut your hair later!”

Xiao Yong grinned, also squeezing some shampoo onto his head.

Xu Chengcai washed three times before his hair was somewhat clean.

He moistened his body, squeezed some shampoo, and, unable to find shower gel, had to make do with the expired shampoo.

He scrubbed his body as if cleaning shoes.

Soon, he poured the hot water over himself, washing away the pitch-black mud, layers of dead skin, grass roots, and various other black and yellow debris.

Slooosh — sloooosh —

Hearing the sound, he looked down at the small drain hole, blocked by the dirt from their bodies.

He couldn’t help but chuckle silently.

From the woodpile beside him, he picked up a thin, long stick and poked the small hole, allowing the bathwater to flow slightly more smoothly.

The water on the ground was completely black.

These were things washed off their bodies.

Xu Chengcai turned his back to his son and said to Xiao Yong, ”Help me scrub my back.”

Xiao Yong picked up a brush and looked at his father’s back.

His back was crisscrossed with various scars, and similar scars could be seen on his father’s chest.

Xiao Yong touched the raised scars and asked, ”Dad, how did you get so many scars? Does it hurt?”

A look of recollection flashed in Xu Chengcai’s eyes. He shook his head and said, ”These are the wounds from my battles back then. It’s nothing. Go ahead and scrub; they’ve all scarred over. Hurry up before the water gets cold.”

”Alright.”

Xiao Yong picked up a shoe brush and scrubbed hard.

Hiss —

”You little rascal, you’re scrubbing too hard!” Xu Chengcai grimaced and barked with a grin.

”Hehe.”

The shoe brush turned pitch black, and the bristles were frayed and twisted.

The two of them used three buckets of water to completely wash up.

The small drain hole in the southeast corner was blocked five times, all due to the dirt on their bodies.

Using a brush to scrub their faces, fingers, and especially their feet — the dirtiest parts, which had to use wire to get somewhat clean.

After bathing, they changed into dry clothes hanging on the wall.

They began to brush their teeth.

The toothbrushes were also found in a small storage. They squeezed out large blobs of toothpaste, exchanging a knowing smile before vigorously brushing.

Before brushing, their teeth were yellow and black, and their breaths had a strong odor.

They brushed for a long time, until their mouths and teeth felt hollow.

Xu Chengcai took scissors, trimming his beard short, then cut off large chunks of his own long hair.

Afterward, he had Xiao Yong sit still and used the scissors to give Xiao Yong a haircut.

During this time, under the flickering firelight in the warm room, neither of them spoke, but they felt what it meant to be alive.

Cozy and warm.

After bathing, brushing teeth, cutting hair, and trimming beards.

The two, dressed in clean clothes, sat cross-legged on the ground.

In front of them were some food items.

In front of Xu Chengcai, there was also a bottle of Red Star Erguotou.

The firelight flickered.

Their shadows cast on the wall.

”Let’s eat!” Xu Chengcai ruffled his son’s head, saying warmly.

He poured himself a small glass of baijiu and lit a cigarette.

A happy smile on his face.

This is what comfort means.

Outside, the storm raged, wet and cold.

Inside, it was tranquil and harmonious, as warm as spring.

This meal, they ate in great comfort.

In dry clothes, they slept on either side of the fire.

.......

They had no idea what time it was or how long they had slept.

During both day and night, the sky was dark.

Time was impossible to discern.

While sleeping, Xu Chengcai suddenly felt the ground tremble.

Soon after, rumbling sounds echoed.

He quickly got up, thinking it was an earthquake.

He threw on a raincoat.

Moved aside the wooden door, which had stones underneath, placed there to prevent rainwater from splashing into the room.

As the wooden door was opened, wind and rain rushed in, making the flames in the room flicker wildly.

Xiao Yong also awoke with a start, scrambling up with a look of terror.

”It’s alright; I’ll go check it out and be right back.”

With that, Xu Chengcai closed the door and dashed into the downpour.

The place they stood was on an elevated platform.

He stepped out of the cabin, his feet deep in water that covered his ankles.

He turned back to see water coursing down the mountains, grateful the supply base was built up high, or they would have been soaking in water as well.

Amidst the rain, his flashlight barely penetrated the darkness. To see further, he had to wait for lightning flashes.

Crash — KABOOM —

A bolt of lightning struck not far away, on the mountain peak.

A large tree was hit by lightning, catching fire even amidst the torrential rain.

The clash of fire and water.

Xu Chengcai saw in the distance a valley completely submerged.

That was where they had been a few days earlier.

Had they not climbed up the mountain, they too would have been submerged.

Crash —

Another lightning strike made it clearer this time; the mountain base lay flooded.

Amidst the floodwaters, faint shadows of Zombies could be seen.

The Zombies had been swept here from elsewhere by the flood.

.......

Roughly calculating, the flood surge was as high as three to four hundred meters.

In this mountainous area, the flood level was low in flat regions, but in the narrow valleys, the floodwaters were compressed and forced to double in height.

The place where they were was on the mountainside, nearly a thousand meters up.

Xu Chengcai’s heart trembled slightly, watching the mighty flood, caught in a dilemma.

Finally found a relatively warm and comfortable place, with food. Should we continue to climb up?

This flood, who knows if it will get higher later? If it does...

Unknown, he doesn’t know.

And in fact, he can’t even figure out where this flood is coming from.

Even with such heavy rain, there shouldn’t be such a huge flood.

He’s somewhat doubting life, what has happened to this world.

So cruel to their father and son, they finally found a place, and only stayed a few days!

Xu Chengcai’s heart shouted.

He stood in the torrential rain and observed carefully for a few minutes.

By visual estimate, the flood is about 700 meters from their height.

The number of zombies swept along in the flood is not too few, but most are being swept downstream.

Leave here, move up? Or stay to take a look?

But staying, what if the next wave of even higher flood comes and drowns this place?

He’s very conflicted.

Walked towards the house somewhat heavily.

.......

The flood passed through Poyang Lake.

Surged toward Ganjiang.

Very quickly.

It reached the vicinity of the Big Camphor Tree Base.

The aggressively flowing flood, when pushing from open flatlands toward narrow hilly valleys, increased in speed and height.

Hill terrain, with high places very high, and low places particularly low.

February 25th.

Three thirty in the morning.

Li Yu sat on a chair resting with his eyes closed.

The little cat that’s inseparable from Third Uncle suddenly began meowing, its fur standing on end, biting Third Uncle’s pants leg.

Li Yu slowly opened his eyes and stared straight at the little cat.

”This is so strange, why is it meowing.” Third Uncle looked at the little cat with some confusion, rubbing its little head.

Beside him, Dapao laughed and said, ”If it weren’t for today’s meowing, I would’ve thought this little cat couldn’t meow.”

As Third Uncle was petting it, he suddenly recalled the previous instances when the little cat meowed, those moments of hidden zombies and some dangerous times, the little cat meowed.

So now, the little cat meowing must mean something dangerous is about to happen.

He looked at everyone heavily and said, ”I feel something’s going to happen, but I don’t know exactly what, however, I know the little cat wouldn’t meow for no reason. Everybody stay alert.”

Li Yu suddenly spoke, ”Get everyone on duty at the walls to return inside to the duty room.”

Li Tie is a man of action, directly picking up the walkie-talkie, speaking to everyone on duty at the walls, ”Immediately return from the walls to the duty room, immediately return from the walls to the duty room, immediately return from the walls to the duty room.”

In other directions, the personnel on duty, puzzled, returned to the duty room and asked, ”What’s happening?”

Li Tie replied, ”I don’t know either, but my big brother gave the order, you just follow it.”

Hearing it was Li Yu’s order, the others didn’t speak further.

Li Yu never issues orders without meaning, even if they don’t understand now, they’ll realize it after something happens.

Time and again, they’ve come to trust Li Yu unconditionally.

........

Half an hour later.

A rumble came from a distant place.

Rumble——

The ground shook slightly.

Dapao asked puzzled, ”Did it just shake a bit? Was it my illusion?”

The shaking was very weak, almost imperceptible.

”Your feeling is correct, I felt it too.” Third Uncle was like facing an enemy, he said gravely.

Usually calm Third Uncle, never afraid of anything, because he usually knew the situation.

But in this situation, the little cat meowing foreboding danger, yet he didn’t know what the danger was, this was the reason he felt a bit tense.

”What’s that you’re seeing?” On the side, Li Hang was watching the surveillance camera.

The camera placed on the national road, from the surveillance screen, showed a blurry large patch in the distance.

A dark large patch, covering the sky, seemingly ready to swallow everything!

Crack——

Under the lightning, everyone in the duty room saw the scene clearly on the surveillance screen.

Flood!

Big wave!

Super huge flood!

Tens of meters high!

....

Thump!

Dapao fell heavily to the ground.

Dapao, originally sitting on a chair, with the chair’s four legs, he only used two, swaying in the air.

Previously somewhat complacent, at this moment shocked and fell to the ground.

”This... is a damn flood!” Dapao was somewhat lost for words.

Li Yu slowly got up and closed the door of the duty room.

Feeling somewhat uneasy inside.

If this flood could engulf the Big Camphor Tree Base, there’s really nothing worth resisting.

But according to his calculations, it’s unlikely.

After all, the city he was in in his previous life, the flood was only tens of meters.

Moreover, the Big Camphor Tree Base is not by the Long River edge, just a straight flow.

Plus, the Big Camphor Tree Base’s altitude is not low, it should not be impacted.

As he was pondering.

Expressions in the duty room were mixed.

Dapao’s slightly trembling body expressed his current emotions.

Third Uncle quickly estimated, the altitude of the national road location, then to a rural road, and then to this side of the Big Camphor Tree Base.

......

The flood moved quickly, reaching the location of the camera directly.

Rumble——

The camera was rushed away.

The flood engulfed the houses on both sides.

Everyone was anxious, anxious whether the flood would affect their side.

A minute later.

They didn’t see the flood.

Three minutes later.

Finally they saw a surge of water rushing towards the woodland.

Then it quickly receded.
