Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Xie Weishan was a bit surprised when he heard Li Yu mention using a wind drying machine, as it was clearly beyond his knowledge range.

He was just someone who farmed at home, taking up odd construction jobs when there was less farm work.

Old Lv nodded and said, ”That’s doable. We can dry the rice sooner, and it will put our minds at ease since we don’t know when it might rain. It’s been sunny for days now, and we’re always worrying about rain tomorrow. Like the old saying goes, ’After long sunshine comes rain.’

When Li Yu heard Old Lv casually mention this, it actually made him look at Old Lv in a new light.

This Old Lv, he’s quite perceptive.

Li Yu then shared this with others and ran to the Outer City to let He Chao and the others know.

Additionally, he asked Second Uncle to quickly clean up the wind drying machine as they would need it tonight.

Second Uncle, hearing Li Yu say he wanted to use the wind drying machine to dry the rice, said, ”I thought of this earlier, but the traditional way of sun-drying works too, so I didn’t mention it to you.”

”But, Xiao Yu, the efficiency of using a wind drying machine to dry rice is actually higher than you might think. This medium-sized wind drying machine can dry 3 to 4 tons at once. Also, the rice has been sun-dried for two or three days, so it takes just about fifteen minutes to dry completely. We have four machines here. So that means we can dry 12 tons at a time, and 48 tons in an hour. We can finish drying all the grain at our base in two hours at most!”

Hearing this, Li Yu was pleasantly surprised and said, ”That means we don’t need to keep the rice out for sun-drying anymore; we can just dry them directly.”

”Yes. That’s the idea,” Second Uncle said.

Li Yu glanced at the time on his watch; it was not yet two o’clock.

Then he said to Second Uncle, ”Alright, in that case, I might as well have them gather the rice and store it in the warehouse after drying.”

”That works too,” Second Uncle said, looking at the wind drying machine still running, drying some vegetables and sweet potatoes inside it.

”In about fifteen minutes, it should be ready to start drying the rice,” Second Uncle said.

After all, there were still some other things being dried in there.

This wind drying machine works by spinning helical vanes to use centrifugal force to evenly feed the rice into the drying barrel for quick drying.

Recently, the electricity supply at the base has been quite strong, so Second Uncle had been freely using electricity.

This wind drying machine requires a lot of electricity.

Therefore, with such ample electricity, Second Uncle tried to dry as many items as possible for longer preservation.

Second Uncle’s response made Li Yu decide to change the original plan, and now start collecting the rice for drying right away.

They probably wouldn’t even have to wait until dark before all the rice was processed and stored in the warehouse.

This warehouse was the place Li Yu had been most meticulous about constructing at the Big Camphor Tree Base. Its waterproof, cold-proof, thermal insulation, and soundproof effects were all extremely high.

The areas were divided to the extent that even if there was a problem in one part of the warehouse, it wouldn’t affect the other areas.

But as it stood, it was hard to envisage any impact.

This underground warehouse was built with a 1.5-meter-thick layer of reinforced concrete, not including additional waterproof and insulation layers....

In short, this underground warehouse could almost rival a missile silo.

......

After leaving from Second Uncle’s place, Li Yu looked at the glaring sun and momentarily felt dizzy, seeing black.

In one brief instant, an image suddenly flashed through his mind.

He was standing atop a huge skyscraper, looking over a city seemingly immersed in the ocean.

Only a few dozen buildings were above the water surface, while others below fifty meters were submerged.

The sky was dark, and rain was pouring down heavily.

As if the sky was leaking.

On that vast, chaotic water surface, countless Zombies floated in the water densely.

......

Recalling that moment, Li Yu got goosebumps.

The location of the Big Camphor Tree Base was already at a relatively high point.

Only a mountain, Tianhua Mountain, was higher, but that mountain was too steep to establish a base; otherwise, Li Yu might have built it there.

Moreover, the elevation at Xin City itself wasn’t low, as it was mostly hilly terrain, theoretically, it shouldn’t be significantly affected.

After all, it’s not on the edge of the Long River.

......

Li Yu used a walkie-talkie to contact Old Lv in the Inner City and He Chao in the Outer City, asking them to gather the rice from the concrete ground now and have Dapao, Yang Tianlong, and the others transport it to Second Uncle for drying.

Li Yu’s series of operations puzzled Second Uncle a bit, but he didn’t question it much, knowing the rice would be dried sooner and stored in the warehouse, letting them rest easy.

After arranging these things, Li Yu climbed onto the wall, watching He Chao and others help gather the grain below, his eyes glistening.

Additionally, Li Yu went over to the factory to check the pumps. These were part of the collaborative supplies that Li Yu had early on included in his plans.

After inspecting the pumps, he asked Li Tie about the completion of tasks previously assigned to them. Li Tie and others assured him those were resolved.

These tasks seemed a bit baffling to Li Tie and the others a few days back, but they saw that it all aimed at improving base security, so they tried their best.

Everything proceeded methodically.

Setting up paddy storage, preparing to withstand rainstorms and potential floods.

The weather was sunny, and in the mountains, some plants were already showing renewed vitality.

The sun was bright, seemingly everything was going well.

No words were needed to appreciate the beauty.

.....

However, to the west in Tanggula Mountain, as temperatures rose, snow that was once thick was melting rapidly, turning small trickles into streams that flowed with the snowmelt, gradually forming into a large river.

The rushing river water submerged some lands.

The river grew ever larger.

A huge dam, already with increased water levels due to snowmelt, saw water levels exceed the highest safety line, and in recent days, with pervasive upstream waters converging, the water levels kept rising ever faster.

And, it continued to increase, faster and faster.

The Survivors knew nothing of this; they thought the warming weather was a sign of hope, and that things would turn for the better.
