This is the task Yang Yu received.

What the Lamia Clan protects might just be the Ancient Ruin left by the Ancient Humans.

Seeing Yang Yu’s excitement, Salt White Lamiya seized the moment, skipped some miscellaneous formalities, and led Yang Yu and them into the vast Pyramid.

In stark contrast to the ancient and magnificent exterior, the inside of the Pyramid is a world of its own.

The sounds of various machinery manipulation are constant, and Lamias of various shapes and sizes are operating all sorts of machinery, either fiddling with design plans, shuttling back and forth to manufacture various precise components, or assembling parts together, creating a bustling scene.

Occasionally, you can see a few Lamia celebrating joyfully with high-fives after finishing assembling machinery.

It seems as if Yang Yu has not stepped into the inside of a Pyramid, but a large mechanical laboratory.

Roughly scanning the nearby Lamia, the majority of them possess the Special ability of being ”Mechanism Experts”.

Pretending to be unable to resist his curiosity, Yang Yu tentatively brought up a topic: ”Your Majesty, I’m really surprised by this place.

It always felt like you’re somewhat similar to the Dwarves.

However, this also raises quite a few questions for me, I’m not sure...”

”Feel free to ask whatever you wish, I can understand the thoughts of you outsiders.” Salt White Lamiya replied indifferently, continuing to lead the way.

”Then, I won’t hold back.

Your city, speaking broadly, has a population of just around one or two tens of thousands.

With the productivity here, even if things are frequently updated, all sorts of machinery would eventually reach saturation...

I haven’t heard of anyone purchasing machinery from the Lamias.

The Legendary Weapons of the Dwarves can be sold through the trade network of the Dragon God Evaluation Country.

...Does production only happen here occasionally?”

”You truly are ignorant.

But no one will idly investigate this, right?

We sell quite a lot of machinery annually to Wansheng Country or Serti for mining or fishing.

For our safety, during trade, we make agreements on paper insisting those objects must be claimed to be made by them.

This is the mainstay of our trade and is how we manage to survive in the desert.”

”I see.”

”About whether production happens occasionally.

Except for certain times, work continues constantly.

As for the reason...

Among the Lamias, there are some extremely Special individuals.

They get easily inspired, creating unique devices to solve practical problems in life.

Long ago, occasionally some Lamias left our living area, causing a few troubles, bringing inconvenience to our clan.

To address this issue, this place became what it is now.

Here, they can learn many things and find unique opportunities to try out their ideas...

Many rules can’t be explained in a short time.

You just need to remember that after the execution of policies, it became rare for Lamias to leave here.

We leverage the wisdom accumulated generation after generation to survive more stably in this barren desert.

Thanks to them, we understand some of the things we are guarding.

Sadly, we still know very little about what’s underground; otherwise, I wouldn’t have turned out like this.

Everything below holds extraordinary research value.

Let me emphasize again, absolutely no reckless destruction, handle everything as I say.”

Salt White Lamiya reminded once more, and Yang Yu nodded to express absolute compliance.

Arriving before a huge iron door, Salt White Lamiya rapidly typed on the keyboard, inputting a code and verifying her palm print.

With a ”click”, the massive iron door opened, revealing a small square space.

Salt White Lamiya led the way into the elevator, with Yang Yu and the others closely following.

To ensure Qing Shi’s safety, Yang Yu temporarily left him outside, to be guided around the city by Salt White Lamiya’s trusted person.

With no worries, Yang Yu continued to ask:

”Your Majesty mentioned many are self-taught.

Once they enter the ruins, do they know how to operate things within the ruins?

Did they discover some unknown knowledge and thus create many incomprehensible things from the ruins, or...

Are the things we’re seeing now developed entirely on their own?”

”Both.

Sometimes we find design plans among the things we protect, and they can easily understand the parts most Lamias cannot.

How should I put it...

Snakes lay eggs, but usually, after laying eggs, a snake doesn’t take care of its eggs or hatchlings, leaving the little snakes to be born and start hunting on their own.

Clearly, no one teaches a snake how to hunt, how to eat, yet they can do it.

It’s the snake’s instinct.

Perhaps, their ability to understand blueprints is also an instinct—although, there are indeed many Lamias who cannot understand blueprints.

”

”Instinct, huh...”

Yang Yu murmured, holding his chin, remembering how the Dwarves have an instinct to pursue crafting higher-quality Equipment, yet due to a lack of technique and materials for practice, their instinct was constantly suppressed.

If all existing races were created, enabling them to learn and embed certain skills directly into their instincts without studying...then that is powerful.

However, this contradicts how ancient humans used certain machines to preserve memories.

...Is that so?

Perhaps, it does not conflict.

Yang Yu suddenly considered a possibility:

Ancient humans might have had internal disagreements, with some refusing to admit that modified humans are still humans.

If that is true, the term ”Subhuman” might become a bit sinister.

Subhuman might not mean a subspecies of Human but beings inferior to Humans.

Yang Yu wanted to follow this thought further, but the light ahead and Qiuye’s abrupt inquiry broke his train of thought:

”Speaking of snakes, ever since hearing we were going to find the Lamia, there’s been a question lingering in my mind.

After meeting the Lamia, I can finally confirm the answer to this question.”

Qiuye took a deep breath and asked the question he had always been curious about:

”Your Majesty, do you Lamia lay eggs...or give birth to children directly?”
