Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

The fortress gates have been completely breached, the materials that made up the gates scattered all over the ground. Several young soldiers moved the fragments, handed them over to the engineers to sew and patch up, piecing them together like a jigsaw puzzle to build a temporary gate.

Whether such a gate can withstand the next attack by the Demon Clan remains a mystery.

Walking past the ruined gates, a soldier hurriedly approached Yang Yu and his companions, saying to them:

”General Volshi has been waiting at the command post for a long time. Please follow me quickly.”

Without another word, Yang Yu led his companions closely behind the soldier, heading to the command post.

Several soldiers squatted under the eaves, wiping off the dust and blood from their hands, gnawing on hard to swallow dry food.

Upon seeing Yang Yu and his companions passing by, the soldiers immediately stood up and saluted Yang Yu, expressing the highest esteem.

Initially, when Yang Yu and his companions arrived, many soldiers, upon seeing only a few reinforcements had come, nearly had their high spirits doused by a bucket of cold water. Fortunately, a soldier recognized Yang Yu and his companions in time.

After the ceasefire between the Luo Ze Empire and the Wansheng Republic, Yang Yu became a prominent figure among the soldiers, gradually becoming legendary.

Titles like ”a colossal Death God capable of calling forth wind and rain,” ”a foreseer who knew the outcome of the war early on,” and ”a Universal Lover treating all races equally” were added to Yang Yu.

Many soldiers were even proud to have seen Yang Yu in person.

Of course, not everyone admired Yang Yu unconditionally. The relatives and friends of soldiers who had died at Yang Yu’s hands held a rather skeptical attitude towards him.

Yang Yu noticed a soldier looking at him with a trace of resentment in his eyes. This soldier might have been called up by his companions, forced to salute him.

Perhaps that soldier believed that everything happening was as it should be, that Yang Yu was atoning for his past sins.

Living in this world, one cannot avoid criticism.

Everyone has a unique growth experience and personality, which influence how they view certain things, their perspectives and methods are related to their distinctive life experiences and character.

Some prefer sweet rice dumplings, while others like salty ones, or some enjoy both, and some like neither.

No one can please everyone in the world.

Through countless decisions, Yang Yu has long developed a strong inner self, and his choices were no longer dictated by others.

Focusing here and there, specifically catering to a group, regretting past choices would slowly lead to losing oneself, ultimately achieving nothing.

Following the soldier’s footsteps, Yang Yu and his companions arrived at the makeshift command center.

General Volshi and two other Grand Generals were there, sitting in place, discussing upcoming matters.

Beside the three, there were several chairs, all empty.

Seeing Yang Yu and his companions arrive, Volshi stood up to greet them:

”Long time no see, Sir Yang Yu.

You arrived just in time, thanks to you, we managed to resist the Demon Clan’s attack.

Next, we might still trouble you again.”

Yang Yu glanced at the two other sharply-eyed Grand Generals and sighed:

”Haven’t you contacted His Majesty the Emperor? Didn’t you hear anything from him?”

Volshi sensed something, shaking his head: ”There hasn’t been any contact with His Majesty the Emperor yet.

We wanted to request reinforcements from His Majesty the King, but.....

There seems to be a more severe situation in the North, even if there are reinforcements, they should be sent there.

If it were me, I would certainly do so.

This place has only the people here to hold it to the death.”

Walsh Eden, who once was the National Guardian General of the Luo Ze Empire, saying such words indicates a severe situation.

”...May I ask about your upcoming plans?” Walsh Eden raised his hand, stroking his mustache, the actions lacking the previous composure and ease.

Yang Yu candidly shared his plan with Walsh Eden:

”The battle has temporarily ended, we’ll take a slight rest here.

Then, like scissors cutting toward the North, reclaim a few cities as much as possible, at least causing disruption in their rear.

Afterward, we’ll look for.....or they might come looking for us first.....

You should have heard about our performance on today’s battlefield.

If we continue staying here, it may invite greater misfortune.

If we run, we can play a game of cat and mouse with the Demon Clan.

Actually...they’re also playing a cat and mouse game. Maybe there’s also a chance they’ll lie in wait...

Our combat power doesn’t match the Demon King Army’s.

The only advantage is that we know this world well.

How long and brutally this war ends depends on who can become the cat and swallow the mouse.”

Walsh Eden nodded repeatedly but furrowed his brows: ”This should originally be the Hero’s job, right?

Having him go clear the Demon King Army’s cadres first, then we clean up the Demon King Army.

But until now, there’s been no word of any Hero. Where on earth has he gone?

If possible, I hope he thought of the same thing as you and started planning.

This time, the Demon King Army is different from previous Demon King Armies.

Perhaps it’s because the past Demon King City was completely destroyed, they had more time to prepare...”

”The Hero...

I sincerely hope he grows up and takes substantial actions against the Demon King.

Regardless of whether the Hero acts, I have prepared for the worst-case scenario.

The Demon Clan’s army rushed along the way, showing no signs of resting. I can see a bit of fatigue on their faces. Perhaps today they’ll rest like us.

But because of our presence, we might invite some trouble, we mustn’t let our guard down.

I came over just to say that.

We’ll arrange our accommodation ourselves. If spotting the enemy, please notify us at the first moment.

We’ll rest for a while, probably leave the city at dawn unless there’s anything important, don’t disturb us.

Tomorrow...perhaps we’ll encounter them.

I want to face the challenge in a spirited state.”

After saying this, Yang Yu turned around and led his companions out of the command post.

General Volshi wanted to say something but didn’t open his mouth, just watched Yang Yu and his companions leave, furrowing his brows and continued stroking his whitening mustache.

Suddenly, Yang Yu’s footsteps came to an abrupt halt. At the command post door, he turned his head to apologize to Walsh Eden:

”There’s one more thing...

We arrived on the island too late.

About your daughter, we’re very sorry.”

On Walsh’s worried face, instead, a relieved smile appeared:

”I’ve already heard the specific situation from that child’s friend.

If you’d gone to rescue them while they were still alive, without enough ability, you might have risked your lives.

I have a lot to say, but now is not the time...

Please allow me to solemnly say again:

Thank you for everything you’ve done.

This time, also don’t rush, I believe you can continue to grow.

As long as you’re alive, there’ll always be a way.”
