Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Running through the entire village, Lotcar searched for survivors like a rescue dog.

This village of over four hundred people ended up with only a mere dozen survivors.

The man who was pierced into a porcupine by wood chips thought it was over for him, but Iyas casually used a healing skill to bring him back.

The village they lived in all their lives turned into ruins, and the surviving villagers couldn’t hide their grief and anger. Then, that grief and anger turned into sighs; how would they live after this?

The rescued children, eyes brimming with tears, stared at Yang Yu, hesitant to speak.

They were incredibly grateful to Yang Yu for saving them, but they also hoped he would continue his assistance and escort them to a safe place.

After confirming the surrounding conditions, Yang Yu gave a simple report to Emperor Klaroci and decided to continue moving toward the front line.

Some experiences from the first layer of the Hall of History are still applicable in reality.

Sending all these survivors to a safe place would take quite a bit of time back and forth.

This task should be done by someone suitable.

It’s like using a knife meant for slaughtering cattle to kill chickens; somewhat inappropriate.

”His Majesty the Emperor has already deployed personnel.

Please trust that His Majesty the King will ensure your safety.

Stay in the village, find a safe place, and hide there for the time being.

Your protectors may take some time to arrive.

I’m sorry, but I can’t escort you to the nearby town.

Perhaps other villages are facing unimaginable disasters, and they need help too.”

Yang Yu spoke concisely.

If he encounters similar situations along the way, Yang Yu would decide whether to continue to the front line or slightly deal with the demon clan that came through the teleportation array based on the lingering scent.

Securing the interior and repelling the exterior are both important.

The purpose of the demon clan is to cause chaos. Although it’s unclear how many forces the demon clan has sent into the human countries, as long as the incident is publicized well enough, and the people know there is strength in the empire to counter the demon clan, it should stabilize the populace.

Yang Yu’s only fear is that some demons, indistinguishable from humans, might infiltrate the country wearing race disguise necklaces and stir trouble.

Having experience dealing with enchanting demons, and given this urgent period, after informing Klaroci about the race disguise necklaces, Yang Yu believes this young emperor can handle it better than him.

The survivors understood Yang Yu’s actions; someone powerful like Yang Yu likely knows more than they do and carries a certain mission.

Being saved by Yang Yu was already fortunate amid misfortune, and they couldn’t ask for more.

In the end, as Yang Yu instructed, they hid within the ruins of the village, silently praying for the support to come quickly.

Yang Yu handed out some tools for self-defense to the brave men before turning his back and leaving the village with his companions.

After this small episode, Yang Yu opened the panel and took out the Broken Cocoon Butterfly, letting it continue its evolution.

The brown small round shield with transparent edges widened and lengthened, with a unique brown-red larva appearing on it. The larva spat out a large amount of white silk, wrapping the enlarged shield layer by layer.

At the moment it finished spitting silk, the brown-red larva fully burrowed into the silk to sleep, becoming a ring-shaped pattern on the shield with its head and tail connected.

The brown small round shield turned into a V-shaped shield a meter long; it looked large but was very lightweight, several times lighter than its egg form.

Opening the panel, Yang Yu checked the attributes of the Broken Cocoon Butterfly:

[Broken Cocoon Butterfly]— Pupa Form

Pupa Form Attributes: Defense +15%, Special Defense +15%, HP +20%

Pupa Form Skill [Tough Life]: When taking damage, 50% of the damage can be converted into gray life value. After leaving combat, you can choose to have the gray life value slowly restore as life value. Alternatively, you can consume the stored gray life value, converting it into a shield lasting 10 seconds, with a 20-second cooldown.

Available Forms Switch: [Egg], [Larva], [-]

Broken Cocoon Progress: 0%, progress increases over time, accumulating battle points can hasten the cocoon-breaking speed.

Battle Points: 0/100, completing this will increase the progress by 1%

Yang Yu had seen similar skills to Tough Life in several games and naturally knew how useful it was— not earth-shattering but quite adequate.

Although the Broken Cocoon Butterfly evolved from Larva Form to Pupa Form and lost its speed, it greatly increased its tanking.

”As expected of a shield that adapts to its user.”

Yang Yu was quite satisfied with the pupa form of the Broken Cocoon Butterfly, wishing the shield were a bit smaller.

Just as he thought this, the shield in his hand that was over a meter tall suddenly shrank, becoming the size of a normal shield.

Yang Yu tried to control the shield to enlarge it, and the ”white silk” making up the shield quickly extended to the edges, becoming the size Yang Yu envisioned.

Goodness, the shield apparently has a hidden ability to change size based on the user’s intention!

However, if you want it to expand, the shield’s thickness will considerably reduce, and it’s unclear if this will affect its hardness and resistance to impact.

The Broken Cocoon Butterfly and the core that He Meng holds, could they be crafted from the same material?

Though intrigued, Yang Yu couldn’t verify the shield’s origin and knew nothing about equipment forging, so he put aside his curiosity and continued toward the front line.

Along the way, Lotcar sniffed some unknown scents again.

The demon clan infiltrating the Luo Ze Empire was not limited to the batch they had just defeated.

If the lingering scent of the demon clan didn’t last long and those demons could be found quickly, Yang Yu would head to resolve the invading demons; if the scent lingered too long and the demons had gone too far, Yang Yu would inform the Emperor of the Luo Ze Empire, letting him organize personnel to handle the invading demons, controlling the threat as much as possible.

They walked and stopped along the way, getting closer to the front line. A light breeze blew ahead, and Lotcar smelled the scent of blood from the battlefield in the distance.

Climbing to the mountaintop, Lotcar stood on the majestic mountain, as Yang Yu and his companions gazed upon the fortress located strategically.

The fortress had been breached; black fog and bright flames slowly drifted from the fortress, on the walls, inside the city, and outside, soldiers from the Luo Ze Empire fiercely clashed with various forms of the demon clan, fighting relentlessly.

The human side’s disadvantage was continuously expanding.

Four demons flew into the sky, gathering magic power without restraint, preparing to unleash super large magic spells to strike a decisive victory.

Not seeing any sign of Tian Hanxue, Yang Yu instructed Lotcar to take off the Reverse Wheel and toss it to Iyas.

”Iyas, use this item and your newly acquired skill to see if you can snipe those mages in the sky who are completely exposed and casting magic spells.”

Taking the Reverse Wheel, Iyas estimated his distance from the mages, feeling a bit hesitant initially, but then resolved:

”Anyway, it’s too far here; if we try to rush over, we definitely won’t make it on time. Let’s give it a try.”

Wearing the Reverse Wheel, taking out the Legendary Longbow, Iyas took a deep breath and drew the bowstring.
