Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Walshi’s heart was filled with remorse, but no matter how much he regretted, it was to no avail. He couldn’t imagine what had happened to his two real daughters.

The Demon Clan couldn’t possibly be so kind-hearted.

Even if his daughters were still alive, they would certainly resent him as their father, for not being there to save them at their most perilous time.

Even so, if there was even a one in ten thousand chance they survived, Walshi still wished to see them again.

”Lord Yang Yu, I have always regarded you as my enemy, and it is the same now.

I judge people based on past experience. Although it’s not always accurate, it usually isn’t too far off.

But as for you, no matter what, I can’t seem to judge you accurately.

It always feels off whenever I try to assess you.

Can I ask you a favor?

I’ve heard you’re investigating the mastermind behind the scenes. Could you help find my daughters?

If they can’t be found, then bring the true criminals of this war to justice.”

After listening to General Walshi, a new task appeared on Yang Yu’s task panel, marking the achievement of his visit’s purpose.

However, Yang Yu did not feel delighted upon receiving the new task.

Because he knew what he would be facing next.

”Even without you saying it, I also plan to do this.

No matter whether the situation can be salvaged, Great General, I hope you can pull yourself together.

Soon, the Demon King will descend upon this world, wreaking havoc.

Your wealth of combat experience will certainly be significant.

Please turn your grief and anger into strength.

Leave the matter of your daughters to me, I will give you justice.”

Without hesitation, Yang Yu accepted the task and gracefully departed from General Walshi’s mansion.

Having visited everyone he needed to, Yang Yu opened the map, gave directions to Lotcar, and prepared to head to the nearest Ruins Research Institute.

With Lotcar’s current speed, the nearest institute could be reached in a day and a half, while the farthest would take only a week.

The ruins of the Luo Ze Empire have only been discovered in recent decades.

No one is clear on how long these ruins have actually existed.

When the ruins were first discovered, the items inside appeared brand new.

Within the ruins, there exists a special type of magic that regularly cleans and repairs the ruins.

Because the Luo Ze Empire conducted research, many devices were moved outside the ruins, which caused them to lose their self-cleaning and repair functions, resulting in significant losses even with careful maintenance.

However, it’s said some items, even when moved out of the ruins, still retain their self-repair and cleaning abilities.

These items are what Yang Yu is most eager to see.

After all, they are most likely to be extremely valuable components.

...

The next day.

...

Luo Ze Empire, No.3 Relic Research Institute, Room 114.

A middle-aged man in a white robe, with a long braid and a stubbly face, was gazing at an irregular blue creation.

This irregular blue creation floated in the air, with each side glowing with a pale yellow light.

The man did not know what this piece was for, but he understood its great value. It was discovered in the center of the ruins.

Whenever he encountered difficulties at work, the man would come to look at this marvelous creation.

Just by looking at it, he seemed to feel a kind of magic flowing into his body, wiping away the fatigue and displeasure from his work.

”Such a beautiful, exquisite being, what on earth are you for? In my lifetime, will I ever uncover your secret?”

The man’s eyes were filled with infatuation as he stretched out his arms, as if he wanted to embrace the blue creation before him, so enamored was he by it.

Suddenly, a researcher rushed into Room 114, interrupting the man’s meeting with the creation,

”Director Lutte Ais, someone wants to visit the ruins. The higher-ups want you to personally guide the tour.”

The man, referred to as Lutte Ais, immediately showed an impatient expression, ”Such trivial matters should be handled by you. Don’t bother me, just deal with it as you see fit.”

The researcher said, ”It’s not some big shot checking our work but a man named Yang Yu.”

Lutte Ais stroked his chin repeatedly, searching his mind but couldn’t find the name Yang Yu: ”Yang Yu... never heard of this name, why would the top brass send him here?”

The researcher shook his head, ”I don’t know, but I heard he is spiritually connected to one of the ruins and can access items from within at will.

He also goes by other names, like Colorful-haired Masked Man, rumored to have used a communication device we developed to disrupt our nation’s battle plans...”

”Why didn’t you say that sooner...”

Lutte Ais’s attitude made a 180-degree turn. He promptly took large strides, eager to leave the research room.

He had long wanted to meet the legendary Colorful-haired Masked Man. If the Masked Man really learned to use such things from other ruins, he might just solve some impossible riddles for them.

The researcher quickly stopped the director and hastily said: ”This is a pre-contact from the Empire’s side, we’re still unsure of their exact arrival time. They just told us to get ready.”

Retracting his steps, Lutte Ais smacked his lips in displeasure, dropping into a chair,

”I got excited for nothing. You should’ve mentioned it sooner, time is precious.”

Not long after he sat, a female researcher hurried into Room 114, reporting:

”Director Lutte Ais, Lord Yang Yu and his companions have requested a visit and are waiting outside.”

”Really?”

The female researcher confidently affirmed, ”Yes.”

A once-disheartened Director Lutte Ais lit up with a smile once again, briskly striding out of the lab.

Climbing up the steps, passing through dilapidated houses, and jumping into a carriage heading toward the barbed-wire fence outside, Lutte Ais soon met with Yang Yu and his group riding a white wolf.

Alighting from the carriage, Lutte Ais gave a light cough and smiled:

”I am Director Lutte Ais Griffin Jones of the Third Relic Research Institute, responsible for organizing the deconstruction and practical application of relics.

It’s an honor to host you today.

I understand you wish to tour the ruins today. I will oversee the explanation and tour.

However, I personally have certain doubts about your claimed possession of a relic. I hope you can provide some proof.

We need to ensure no unlawful individuals attempt to masquerade and steal our research findings.”

Feigning composure, Lutte Ais nonetheless couldn’t fully hide the excitement in his eyes.

Sliding off Lotcar’s back, Yang Yu politely introduced himself, ”Pleased to meet you, Director Lutte Ais. My name is Yang Yu, and you might have heard something about me, so I won’t go into details.

What you are likely more interested in are the relics.

I greatly wish to display all the relics under my control to you.

Unfortunately, my access is limited, and I can only present a very small portion. I ask for your understanding.”
