Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 371: Chapter 371 We Are Fellow Villagers

Bai Jin’s attempt at consolation was quite clumsy, but the warmth emanating from the palm of her hand was real, and that was enough to convey her intentions to Iyas.

Iyas gradually calmed down, and said sorry to Yang Yu.

Unfortunately, the thoughts in Iyas’s heart hadn’t changed. She still firmly believed that the choice she had made then was correct; only by not overlooking any clue could she possibly find her missing brother sooner.

Both Yang Yu and Bai Jin knew that Iyas’s apology was perfunctory, but Bai Jin still tried to play the peacemaker,

”Yang Yu, please don’t be angry. After this incident, Iyas has learned her lesson and she certainly won’t act recklessly in the future. Let’s forgive her this time.”

Wiping the bloodstain from his sword and putting the sword away expressionlessly, Yang Yu said just four words,

”Never again.”

Having said that, Yang Yu started walking.

None of them had the ability to dispose of bodies, and it was only a matter of time before the bodies were discovered, so they had to leave quickly.

To delay the discovery of the bodies, Bai Jin used thick Ice Magic to seal the alley entrance. It would take half a day for the ice to completely melt.

This time was ample for Yang Yu and the others to find Lotcar and head to the next city, Mandena.

Even though there was no Chaoyang Chamber of Commerce auction house in that city, it still fell within the sphere of influence of the Sunrise Chamber of Commerce.

The Sunrise Chamber of Commerce was one of the top chambers of commerce in Serti, and its business scope was not limited to auctions; it also engaged in other businesses. It was impossible to avoid dealing with them completely.

Many important skills were located within the Sunrise Chamber of Commerce’s area of activity.

Those highly practical skills couldn’t possibly be forsaken just because they were found within the Sunrise Chamber of Commerce’s domain.

But there’s an old saying, ”A cautious pilot steers clear of the rocks.”

A team of assassins attacking was something Yang Yu could barely manage, but if the assassins came in numbers, he had no way of dealing with them and could only passively take hits.

To put it another way, like in some shooting games, one-on-one is an even match; but when you’re alone in the middle of the battlefield, and the enemy’s hiding behind a barrier with guns blazing, no matter how skilled you are, you can’t completely dodge the barrage of bullets.

Unless, you cheat.

Auto-aim plus wallhack, with a backpack that turns magazines into frying pans, and add a Level 3 helmet—then, you might have a chance to rack up twenty-nine kills and make an epic comeback.

But the joy that cheating brings is always fleeting.

With each twitch of the body, everything becomes dull and uninteresting.

Yang Yu hadn’t yet reached that unparalleled level of domination; he must proceed with caution every step of the way.

After a day’s travel, Yang Yu was getting closer to Mandena.

Throughout that day, the tension in the group spread once more. Yang Yu gave Iyas the cold shoulder, and she retaliated in the same manner.

Bai Jin tried to speak with Iyas, to reason with her that she couldn’t continue being so headstrong. Yet, Iyas would always curtail the conversation with a few words, providing superficial replies, focusing on the map Yang Yu had given her.

Yang Yu stopped in the forest near Mandena, as he always did, calling Lotcar aside in the thicket to discuss certain matters.

This time, Yang Yu had an additional instruction for Lotcar.

That matter was to ensure the continuation and smooth progress of his adventure.

After that, Yang Yu found Iyas and told her that, as a reflection on the last incident, she must stay with Lotcar until they returned.

Iyas was of course incredibly reluctant, but a sharp glance from Yang Yu stopped her mid-sentence, and she could only agree to obey Yang Yu this time and stay put. However, as a trade-off, she demanded that next time, Yang Yu must take her into the city.

Yang Yu didn’t reply, but his gaze seemed to tell Iyas that she hadn’t the right to bargain. Then, Yang Yu pulled his hood over his head and set off with Bai Jin to Mandena.

Seeing Yang Yu’s attitude, Iyas huffed and walked over to a stone beside Lotcar, crossed her arms, and watched from a distance as Bai Jin and Yang Yu left the forest.

After Yang Yu and Bai Jin had completely left, Lotcar spoke up,

”Miss Iyas, I’ve heard it all from Yang Yu, and indeed, you were in the wrong on this matter.”

Iyas looked at Lotcar with dissatisfaction,

”Even you want to lecture me? He’s not here now, so I’ll just say it.

I don’t think I did anything wrong. Who knows how Hake is right now; even a second’s delay threatens his life’s safety.

Getting Sekamens to help us is indeed a good thing, but that’s only a temporary measure.

We also need to seize every opportunity to gather clues on our side, that’s the only way we can find Hake faster.”

”I’m not lecturing you, there are some things that can’t be hurried,”

Lotcar lay down, slowly closed his eyes, and went into a restful state,

”As for the clan, I’ve been away for quite a while. I have no idea what has become of it, but I have not, like you, been so anxious to find your brother that I’ve been pressing Yang Yu to take me back quickly.

The future is something that can’t be predicted accurately. Worrying about that unseen future will only confuse and disrupt oneself.

Whether it’s fortune or misfortune, one cannot escape it.

Although my time with Yang Yu has been short, it’s clear to see that he’s a meticulous thinker. Despite some things not being truly within one’s grasp, he has never allowed himself to be thrown into disarray over them.

Sometimes, I even think if I could be like him, I wouldn’t have fallen to this state.”

Hearing these words, Iyas felt a resonance with Lotcar.

Indeed, Lotcar’s feelings were probably similar to hers, yet he managed to find peace within himself and wait quietly for things to unfold.

But...

”Did he tell you to say this?”

Lotcar gently shook his head, ”No one told me to say this. We come from the same country; my words are based on the fact ’we are fellow countrymen.’

If you don’t want to listen, then consider it the soliloquy of a great wolf.”

”The same country...” Iyas pursed her lips.

To be honest, Iyas didn’t feel much for the concept of country that Lotcar mentioned.

Although the Elf Clan and Silver Teeth Clan were both part of Wansheng Country, the elves had long been isolated in a few forests, forming several fixed settlements, and they had never obeyed the king of that country; they only followed the orders of the Elf Queen.

The situation was similar with the Silver Teeth Clan. Due to their scant numbers and reclusive lives, they also only heeded their Clan Leader, showing little interest in the king who ruled over that country.

There were many other similar races, and none of them followed the commands of the king who ruled that country, only listening to the most authoritative person within their own race.
