The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 218: Chapter 218: Suddenly Asking About Her Birthday_1

Nathalie Quinlan wasn’t the type to indulge in gossip.

She had thought Freddy Cagwin wouldn’t reply to Jhovany Sullivan, but the determined young man spoke up quite frankly, ”I know them. My mom used to work as a housekeeper for their family.”

The families of students at McKinney No. 1 Middle School were generally affluent, especially those in Class A. Even if they were not as wealthy as Ghania Quinlan’s family, which owned a public company,

they were at least well-off.

To them, the situation of someone like Freddy, whose mom worked as a nanny in someone else’s home, was still beyond their understanding even at their age.

”Uhh...”

With his eyebrows lowered, Freddy held a certain pride despite facing his own life circumstances openly: ”My mom needed to support my education, and since she hadn’t been formally educated herself, she couldn’t find any light work. So, after a referral from a family relative, she became a live-in domestic helper. She earned a monthly salary which, along with my dad’s income, was just enough for us to get by living in McKinney.”

Jhovany Sullivan and Clerent Miller glanced unconsciously towards Nathalie.

So that was it.

No wonder Nathalie got along so well with Freddy; there was this background story.

Nathalie had previously lived with the Quinlan family, hadn’t she?

”Later on, when my dad got sick, my mom started her own small business. She set up a hot pot stand on Almeda Street, and I would help out on weekends.”

Jhovany and others listened with heavy hearts, always feeling that he had it tough. The care from one teenager to another is always so simple and sincere.

They might not have fancy words, but the concern from deep within is warmer than any words could ever be.

”Freddy, your mom knows how to make hot pot? That’s awesome,” Jhovany said with a start, immediately smiling warmly.

Apple-faced, she showed a bit of a goofy expression, touched her nose, stuck out her tongue, and said with a greedy look, ”I especially love hot pot but never found a genuine one. Do you know Aladdin’s Spicy Restaurant near our school?”

”I used to go there every Wednesday, but it’s been getting worse recently. Justin Wafford and I don’t want to go anymore. It’s great that your mom can make hot pot. One of these days, Justin Wafford and I should come to visit you, haha, to taste your aunt’s cooking. Can we?”

Freddy glanced at her and obviously understood what she was really thinking, but if Jhovany truly liked hot pot, he was confident his mom’s skills wouldn’t disappoint her.

So, he felt neither inferior nor did he put himself down.

He agreed very straightforwardly.

”Sure.”

Upon hearing this, Clerent and others immediately crowded in, ”Jhovany Sullivan, you’re so sly, wanting to go enjoy delicious food all by yourself. I’m coming too!”

”Me too!”

”Us as well!”

With a gleam in her eye, Jhovany suggested warmly, ”Then let’s pick a date to all go together, how about that?”

She remembered Nathalie and turned to ask the person by her side, ”Nathalie, are you coming?”

”Next week. I’m busy this week.” Nathalie Quinlan lifted her head from her phone, her eyes showing fatigue. She lay back, exuding an indolent but somehow compelling aura.

Seeing her, Jhovany’s heart raced, her cheeks flushing.

Oh dear, how come Nathalie is so cool? Could it be my orientation isn’t quite right?

The others discussed when they were free next week to potentially gather at Freddy’s family’s hot pot stand for a meal.

Suddenly, Nathalie received a message on WhatsApp.

[Amadeus Yancey: When is your birthday?]

Nathalie Quinlan: ?

Why would he suddenly ask her birthday out of the blue?

[Nathalie Quinlan: I don’t know. According to Jeff Quinlan’s words, it’s August 16th.]

Without relying on what the Quinlan family who adopted her said, she had no idea when her birthday really was.

After all, no one had ever cared about her birthday, and after a while, she too stopped caring about such things.
