The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 209: Chapter 209: What happened to your face? It looks like someone hit you.

She stiffly handed the taxi driver the fare and, under the driver’s curious gaze, returned home with rigid steps.

”Dad, Mom, Grandma, I’m back,” Ghania Quinlan mumbled, her spirits low, as she entered through the hallway after changing her shoes.

The atmosphere at home had been very oppressive recently.

”I heard Jane Bailey is going to be sentenced.”

As soon as Ghania walked in, she saw her parents looking downcast once again, making her feel even worse.

Nathalie was such a jinx!

If only she had gone to live in Hillwood as she should have, instead she chose to stay in McKinney. Since she left their home, it was as if they were cursed—there hadn’t been a single good day.

When Emilia Sullivan saw her return, she quickly got up, instructed the servant to help her with her things, and squeezed out a smile, ”Ghania, you’re back. Were you tired from school today? Why are you coming back so late, did you go out for dinner with Zayn Fisher?”

Ghania Quinlan stuttered, not daring to meet her gaze, ”...Not tired, yes, had dinner.”

”Was it Zayn Fisher who brought you back?” Emilia Sullivan finally showed a sincere smile, genuinely relieved for her daughter. No matter the situation at home, as long as Ghania was still with Zayn, she wouldn’t have to worry about her future.

Ghania felt as if she had been stabbed in the heart, and the person wielding the knife was her own mother. Her pretty face turned pale, biting her lip, but she maintained her pride and said, ”...Yes.”

Anyone listening carefully could tell that her response lacked conviction, her eyes flickering uncertainly.

But Emilia Sullivan, who had been clinging to this single piece of comforting news for a month, didn’t notice her daughter’s unusual mood.

She smiled and chided her, ”You, silly girl. He’s gone to the trouble of bringing you home, why didn’t you invite Zayn to come in and sit? I could peel some fruit for him, you two could chat a bit more.”

Ghania felt even worse inside and hurriedly cut her off, ”Mom, he’s busy and doesn’t have time. Maybe another day.”

Emilia Sullivan knew the Fisher Family was different from the Quinlan Family; their foundations in McKinney were deep, Zayn was a promising young talent with a bright future, so it was normal for him to be busy.

She didn’t press the issue further and casually said, ”That’s true. Well, when he has the time, arrange for him to come over for a meal. I’ll cook some dishes he loves. I’ll have his uncle share a drink with him.”

Jeff Quinlan, although unhappy with the Fisher Family’s recent lack of support for the Quinlan Family, was still very satisfied with Zayn as his future son-in-law.

And he knew that it wasn’t Zayn’s place to make decisions for the Fisher Family yet.

But Zayn was the most promising child of the Fisher Family’s younger generation and a top student from Tsinghua University; the Fisher Family would eventually be in his hands. If Ghania married him, it would be beneficial for the Quinlan Family in every way.

So, he joined Emilia Sullivan in advising Ghania, ”Your mother is right. Zayn has been back for quite a while, and you haven’t invited him to our home for a meal. As his girlfriend, you should give him more attention. Don’t be lost and confused all day long. No matter how much a boy likes you, if you take him for granted, his affection will cool.”

”Besides, Zayn respects you, thinking you’re young, so he hasn’t spent the night with you. The less he pushes, the more likely someone else will take advantage of that. Especially when he is so excellent, you need to be more alert.”

Ghania’s face flushed with heat and embarrassment. She covered her face with her hands, her eyes filled with shame as she raised her voice, ”Dad, what are you talking about?”

Emilia Sullivan suddenly noticed the slight swelling on her left cheek, ”Wait, Ghania, what happened to your knee and face?”

Her knee was bandaged with gauze.

And her face looked as if it had been hit by someone?
