Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 457: Chapter 158 Disappeared Bug_2

The Director also knew that the majority of the people in the agency didn’t like him, but he could rely on his status to suppress them; otherwise, the Guard Captain wouldn’t have followed him here.

After closing the door, the Director somewhat nervously said to the Guard Captain, ”Are you saying that the person who came to my office earlier was the Chen Ming who’s been the talk of the town lately?”

The Guard Captain responded seriously, ”That’s what was registered at the door, but who exactly is underneath that power armor, no one knows.”

The Director suddenly became a bit anxious, his voice rising as if questioning, ”How can someone like him be allowed in here?”

”He just came to my office! If he’s not Chen Ming, and is someone holding a grudge against the company, do you know what responsibility you would bear?”

”He would kill you?”

”You!”

The Guard Captain gave the Director a jab, then replied normally, ”You just watched the surveillance; he came to see the Director, confirmed you weren’t there, and left. What’s the problem with that?”

The Director pointed towards the Deputy Director’s office on the same floor and said, ”When I directed him there, why didn’t he go afterward?”

”The Deputy Director isn’t in the building today; maybe Chen Ming saw the office was switched to you and just called to ask. If he knew the person wasn’t there, there’s no problem in not going to the office, right?”

”And Chen Ming being able to come in was also arranged by the Deputy Director. As long as he has his identity card, he’s let through directly.”

”Moreover, Chen Ming has always been a company employee. What’s the issue with letting him in?”

The Director raised his voice again, with obvious doubt in his tone, ”A Psychic can be a company employee?”

”Are you suspicious of Psychics? Or suspicious of Chen Ming? Or are you suspicious of the company?”

The Director realized he had misspoken and quickly tried to remedy it, ”Who in the Edge Star Realm doesn’t know that Psychics are real? I never said I doubted the company.”

”I’m asking if he’s really Chen Ming.”

The Guard Captain didn’t answer directly, instead veering off, ”Previously, Chen Ming was the same, always in and out wearing a protective suit, never taking it off.”

”It’s not unusual to wear a different power armor after not seeing someone for a while. Running around in civilian power armor isn’t a big deal.”

”At our dock, if we could afford them, we’d have deployed civilian power armor for everyone long ago.”

”Oh, and he was using an alias at the company before, Sky Squid—no wait, it was Mu Shuikong.”

”It wasn’t until after the military attack incident that his real name and deeds became known. You probably didn’t know, so you thought Chen Ming was new.”

The Director’s face turned even darker upon hearing this.

”Oh, also, when he first came over in his power armor, he was indeed stopped by the gate guards, but after an old company employee sent over his identity card, he was let through.”

”There’s no problem with the entire process. If you think there’s a problem, you can ask the Deputy Director, or question why the company set the regulations this way.”

The Guard Captain was leading the Director into a pit with every word he spoke.

By this point, he was too lazy to argue with the Director any longer, and finally said, ”So, Director, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be off. I have a lot of things to do.”

”Wait a moment.”

The Director called after him again, saying, ”I need you to check if there are any issues with the security system, especially this floor, and send me the report later.”

Though the Guard Captain was somewhat irritated inside, he still said, ”Understood.”

After he left.

The Director nervously looked around, picked up his terminal, and made a call.

”Network Security Department? Where’s your Minister? Have him come over.”

At this point, the Director returned to his desk.

What the Director intended to do afterward could probably already be guessed by both Chen Ming and the Factory Director who were watching him.

So they didn’t continue to keep a constant watch on him.

At this moment, Chen Ming, still displaying a casual demeanor, said, ”He’s panicking.”

”Do you think he knows that we’re on good terms?”

The Factory Director immediately replied, ”He definitely knows, otherwise your reputation wouldn’t have given him such a jolt.”

”Doesn’t he know your reputation?”

”He knows, but it’s precisely because of my reputation that he’s bold enough to cause trouble. I can’t just kill people indiscriminately.”

”True, well, whatever. It doesn’t matter to me what he does.”

Now the Director could do whatever he wanted since he couldn’t escape his eventual fate.

Chen Ming sat up a bit, his expression becoming more restrained, and said, ”I have one more thing to tell you, something from a long time ago.”

Chen Ming’s sudden serious demeanor made the Factory Director also straighten up a little, ”Go ahead.”

”Back when I crawled out of the hibernation pod, still at the Mining Space Station.”

”When I woke up, I found a doctor’s corpse in the room and took a handgun and a terminal from the body.”

”It was with those two things that I could land on Rimu Star from the Space Station and survive until today.”

”So I said before, if I survived and was able, I would go back to take care of the doctor’s remains, to let him rest in peace.”

”The doctor’s name was... let me think, Ding He.”

”I see.”

The Factory Director showed a look of understanding on his face and said, ”You really don’t need to worry about this too much.”

”The Fourteenth Legion has already returned the Sky Steel to the company, and the Star System has been reopened.”

”The Space Station has been taken over by the company recently, and they’re already dealing with it.”
