Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 334: Chapter 206: Not Giving Up, Requesting Support

”Evolvers’ constitutions are much stronger, so their resistance is naturally higher than an ordinary person’s,” Ren Yuanyang replied. ”But we still need to be careful. Let’s start brewing that preventative herbal soup you mentioned. Everyone should have some.”

”Yes, sir!”

Meanwhile, the number of infected individuals with feverish symptoms at the Aircraft Carrier Base and Dawn Base was skyrocketing.

The leaders in charge were in a video conference, discussing what to do next.

”Since everyone’s going to get infected anyway, there’s no point in continuing the quarantine, right? Let’s just go about our business!” Long Zhan voiced his opinion.

”Absolutely not!” the head of the Aircraft Carrier Base’s health and safety department immediately interjected. ”Even if everyone will eventually get infected, lifting the quarantine now would cause the viral concentration in the environment to increase dramatically. People who might have otherwise recovered could end up dying!”

”What do you mean?” Long Zhan said, not understanding.

The official continued to explain, ”Under quarantine, people are only exposed to the virus in the rainwater, which has a limited concentration. But an infected person can carry thousands, even millions, of viral particles. The virus replicates inside the host and then spreads into the air through saliva or droplets, increasing the overall viral concentration.”

Long Zhan understood at once. ’A higher viral concentration meant a higher probability of infection. The illness would progress faster, and the body’s defenses might not have time to react before it’s game over!’

”I understand. Looks like we have to continue the quarantine,” Long Zhan nodded.

Wang Jun frowned deeply. ”What about treatment?”

”Reducing fever, suppressing coughs, antiviral therapy... If it becomes severe, they’ll need a ventilator...”

”Do we have enough medicine?” Wang Jun asked.

The head of the health department shook his head. ”Not enough. People with mild cases will just have to fight it off on their own...”

Ji Yizhi suggested, ”We should ask Peach Blossom Base for help. They should have plenty of herbal medicine.”

”It’s our only option now,” Wang Jun sighed helplessly.

When the floods came, the priority had been saving people. They had only managed to salvage some of the medicine. As for the pharmaceutical production lines, there had been no chance of moving them onto the ships.

Their current supply of medicine dwindled with every dose used.

And with nearly one hundred thousand people on the Aircraft Carrier Base, the demand for medicine was immense.

This time, no one objected to Ji Yizhi’s proposal. They all knew that Peach Blossom Base had successfully developed a perfect Evolution Potion using herbal medicine.

Moreover, these very people had been injected with the Evolution Potion and become Evolvers, so they didn’t dare underestimate the effectiveness of herbal medicine.

With the decision made, Wang Jun immediately sent a message to Ren Yuanyang.

”Brother Yang, our medical supplies are limited. I was wondering if your base has any relevant treatments?”

”We do. I’ll have my people prepare extra herbal medicine. We’ll send it to Dawn Base, so you can arrange for your people to pick it up,” Ren Yuanyang replied to Wang Jun while continuously strengthening some herbal medicine seeds.

Because of this sudden viral outbreak, all the planting areas in Peach Blossom Base were now dedicated to growing the relevant medicinal herbs.

”Thank you! What animals does your base need? Just name them. If we have it, it’s yours. No questions asked!” Wang Jun replied immediately.

”We don’t need them for now. Space is limited, after all. Just put it on our tab. We’ll need them soon enough!” Ren Yuanyang replied with a smile.

”Alright, I’ll arrange for a team to head to Dawn Base right away!” Wang Jun replied. Then, a thought struck him, and he added with a hint of helplessness, ”We’re also short on fuel. You see...?”

”Didn’t you already arrange for a supply ship to come over? Once it arrives, I’ll give you a batch to start. Same deal, on the tab!” Ren Yuanyang waved his hand, sealing the deal for the fuel.

”Okay, thank you!” Wang Jun felt like he’d said those two words so many times they were starting to lose their meaning, failing to convey the depth of his gratitude.

”You’re being too polite,” Ren Yuanyang said with a wave of his hand. ”I’ve still got things to do here. When your ships arrive, just have Long Zhan notify me.”

”Understood!” Wang Jun replied, saying no more.

Just then, Hua Lingfang walked over and said, ”Chief, more cases of fever and coughing have appeared on the supply ship. I’d like to try treating them purely with medicine. Would that be alright?”

”Of course. In fact, it would be best if you can cure them with just the medicine. Otherwise, when we give the medicine to the Aircraft Carrier Base, wouldn’t we have to send you over too?” Ren Yuanyang nodded in reply. ”It’s not like they’re guaranteed to have a traditional Chinese medicine doctor over there.”

”Mm, I understand,” Hua Lingfang said. He picked up his medical kit and headed back to the supply ship.

The people showing symptoms on the supply ship were still the ordinary crew members. At the same time, the two hundred Dragon Country People also began to show symptoms.

Watching more and more crew members come down with fevers, James and the others noticed something: they, the Evolvers, felt perfectly fine.

”Could it be because our enhanced constitutions after evolving make us immune to the virus?” James speculated.

Des nodded. ”Very likely.”

”We’re really lucky, then!” James exclaimed. ”No matter how you look at it, being an Evolver has its advantages over being a normal person.”

”Exactly. Sooner or later, they’ll have to take us seriously,” Des agreed.

James suddenly saw Hua Lingfang walk in from outside and hurried to greet him.

”Minister Hua, you’re here!”

Hua Lingfang gave a slight nod and ordered, ”Gather everyone with symptoms in one place. It will be easier for me to diagnose and treat them.”

”They’re already gathered together!” James replied immediately.

”Mm, then take me to them,” Hua Lingfang said.

Hua Lingfang soon arrived where the infected were gathered and began his examinations.

After examining each of them, he was more or less certain they had all been infected with the unknown virus. He immediately took out the herbal soup he had prepared and had them drink it.

”How is the first person who was infected doing now?” Hua Lingfang asked.

James replied instantly, ”His temperature has returned to normal and he’s barely coughing. Your treatment is incredibly effective!”

”It’s working so quickly because the base’s herbs are high-quality. My treatment methods are merely supplementary,” Hua Lingfang said, shaking his head slightly.

James was taken aback. He didn’t quite understand what Hua Lingfang meant.

’Are there really different tiers of quality for herbal medicine?’

Hua Lingfang didn’t explain. Instead, he continued, ”I’ll be in the lounge on the supply ship. If any issues come up, you can send me a message or come find me directly.”

”Okay, I’ve got it,” James nodded.

With that, Hua Lingfang headed for the upper decks. There were more people up there who needed his treatment.

Meanwhile, Si Youqin and her team were in the Banyan Forest, busy planting, harvesting, processing, and portioning out the medicinal herbs.

All the herbs they portioned out were packed up and loaded onto speedboats.

”Chief, we’ve already filled three speedboats with the herbs. Should we keep going?” Lu Jiamei came to ask for instructions.

Ren Yuanyang nodded firmly. ”Yes, and it’s still not enough! The Aircraft Carrier Base and Dawn Base both need massive amounts of herbs!”

Lu Jiamei paused for a moment, then replied, ”Understood!”

After relaying the order, she asked curiously, ”Chief, are we giving all of this to the Aircraft Carrier Base for free?”

”Of course not. For now, we’ll put it all on a tab. Once we have enough space here, they can pay off the debt with plants and animals,” Ren Yuanyang replied with a smiling shake of his head.

Lu Jiamei nodded slightly. ”That’s true. We don’t have enough space right now to keep that many plants and animals.”

”Now that we have Dawn Base standing guard nearby, we can focus on expanding our base without worry,” Ren Yuanyang continued.

”Mm, let’s just hope the Aircraft Carrier Base doesn’t burn the bridge after crossing it,” Lu Jiamei replied.

”Even if they do burn the bridge, it’s their own bridge they’re burning. We’ll have already gotten what we want,” Ren Yuanyang said, unconcerned. ”Besides, I trust Captain Wang won’t make the wrong decision.”

Just then, a video call came in from Long Zhan. ”Brother Yang, we’re in deep trouble! Almost everyone at Dawn Base is infected, and some are barely hanging on!”

Ren Yuanyang frowned slightly. ”You should have some medicine on hand, right? Use it!”

”We did! We didn’t have much to begin with, and we’ve already hit the bottom of the barrel in just a few hours!” Long Zhan’s face was a mask of helplessness. ”Can you guys spare some medicine?”

”Yes, we’ve prepared some already. I’ll have someone send it over right away,” Ren Yuanyang replied. ”It should help you hold out for now.”

”That’s great! So many people went down at once, I was completely at a loss!” Long Zhan cried out in relief.

”Mm, I’ll have them set off immediately,” Ren Yuanyang replied. ”By the way, have any of your Evolvers shown symptoms of infection?”
