Chapter 342: Chapter 341: The Architect’s Demands and the Midnight Ripple

The Fire Capital - The Daimyo’s Manor - Private Study

The silence stretched comfortably in the Daimyo’s study, filled only by the fragrant wisp of Alaric’s cigar smoke and the heavy anticipation hanging in the air. Kyū Madoka, the ruler of the most prosperous nation on the continent, stood behind his desk with his arms open, offering the wealth of an empire to the man sitting across from him.

Alaric tapped his fingers rhythmically against the leather armrest, his blue eyes gleaming with the sharp, calculating light of a merchant who had just cornered the market.

”Then...” Alaric finally broke the silence, his voice smooth and deliberate. ”I have four specific requests.”

Kyū nodded eagerly, settling back into his ornate chair. ”Name them. My word is iron.”

”First,” Alaric began, holding up a single finger. ”I want money. A staggering, almost obscene amount of money.”

Kyū didn’t even blink. Given that the man had just single-handedly salvaged the national economy from a catastrophic, multi-billion Ryo hemorrhage, a massive financial reward was not just expected; it was the bare minimum.

”Two billion Ryo,” Kyū declared without a hint of hesitation, his voice ringing with absolute certainty. ”I will not pull it from the state treasury to avoid raising the suspicions of the remaining council. I will grant it to you straight from my very own, personal reserves.”

The Daimyo let out a thoughtful sigh, stroking his silver beard. ”However, liquidating and transferring that volume of wealth discretely will take a modicum of time. You might have to return to the Capital in about a week to formally withdraw the funds from the central bank.”

”A week is perfectly fine,” Alaric nodded, taking a slow drag from his cigar. ”Consider it a deposit on my patience.”

He raised a second finger.

”Second... if Konohagakure ever goes to war, you will fund them. Unconditionally. It doesn’t matter if you have to dip into your personal reserves again or leverage the Fire Capital’s national treasury. If the Leaf marches, the Capital pays the iron price.”

At this, Kyū’s brow furrowed, a flicker of genuine political conflict crossing his weathered features. He leaned forward, resting his forearms on the mahogany desk.

”Alaric, you know the ancient treatises as well as I do,” Kyū countered, his tone respectful but firm. ”Daimyos and the central capitals of the Five Great Nations historically never interfere directly with shinobi matters. We fund their baseline infrastructure and hire them for missions, but directly bankrolling a total war? It blurs the line between the military village and the civilian state. It invites total destruction to our doorsteps.”

Alaric merely smirked, blowing a thin stream of smoke toward the ceiling. ”That rule is a polite fiction, Kyū. And you know it.”

He gestured lazily toward the damning scrolls resting on the desk. ”Iwagakure just shattered that historical precedent by actively colluding with Amakura Genbei to intentionally cause a financial crisis and starve your people. They used your own merchant class as a weapon of war. The line isn’t blurred; it’s already been crossed.”

”...” Kyū stared at the scrolls, then back at Alaric. A slow, conceding chuckle vibrated in his chest. ”You have a terrifyingly pragmatic way of viewing the world, my friend. Very well. I accept the term. If the Leaf bleeds for the Fire Country, the Capital will ensure their quivers are never empty.”

”Glad we agree,” Alaric smiled, raising a third finger. ”Which brings me to my next point. I want you to increase Konoha’s annual baseline funding. Not just a restoration of the proposed cuts... I want a minimum of a thirty percent increase across the board.”

Kyū’s jaw dropped slightly, a loud, incredulous laugh bursting from his lips. ”A thirty percent increase?! Are you simply here to drain me dry, Alaric? First two billion for your pocket, then a blank check for war, and now a massive expansion to the village’s annual budget? My accountants will weep!”

”Oh, please,” Alaric countered effortlessly, rolling his eyes with a dismissive wave of his hand. ”You have so much wealth circulating through this city that a thirty percent increase to a single hidden village wouldn’t even dent the national reserves. Consider it an investment in border security. A well-fed, heavily armed Konoha means you sleep sounder at night.”

Highly amused by the sheer audacity of the demand and the inescapable logic behind it, Kyū shook his head, still chuckling. ”You drive a brutal bargain, but you are not wrong. It shall be done. The Godaime Hokage will be receiving a very pleasant letter from me shortly.”

”Excellent,” Alaric murmured.

He lowered his hand, pausing as he considered his fourth and final request. He took a long, contemplative drag from his cigar. In truth, he didn’t actually need anything else. He possessed a system brimming with unimaginable wealth, the power to rival gods, and a beautiful family waiting for him across the veil of reality.

He and Kyū stared at each other in the quiet study, the silence stretching comfortably.

Finally, Alaric sighed, leaning his head back against the plush leather of the chair. ”For the last grant... I just want a simple mansion. Situated on a good plot of land that spans, say, at least ten hectares. Somewhere I can stretch my legs when I visit the Capital.”

Kyū blinked, completely taken aback by the request. ”A simple mansion? On ten hectares of prime Capital real estate?” The Daimyo groaned playfully, rubbing his temples. ”Alaric, there is absolutely nothing ’simple’ about carving out ten hectares of land inside a densely populated metropolis!”

”You’re the Daimyo,” Alaric joked, his blue eyes dancing with quiet amusement. ”You literally own the country. It shouldn’t be that hard for you to shuffle a few property lines.”

”And where exactly would I even construct an estate of that magnitude without demolishing half the noble district?” Kyū complained jokingly, throwing his hands up in mock exasperation.

”Again,” Alaric shrugged, a lazy, utterly confident grin on his face. ”You’re the Daimyo. You can do whatever you want.”

Kyū spent a brief moment staring at the ceiling, his mind visualizing the sprawling topography of the city. Slowly, the feigned exasperation melted into a wide, booming laugh that echoed off the study walls.

”You know what?” Kyū nodded his head enthusiastically, his eyes shining with the grand vision of a king. ”I was already planning to expand the outer perimeters of the Fire Capital anyway. I intend to build a new, modern secondary residence for my family away from the noise of the inner court. I will build you your ’simple’ mansion right alongside it.”

The Daimyo leaned forward, his hands animatedly painting the picture in the air. ”It will be an estate so incredibly vast that it will feature private guest houses, sprawling, terraced gardens, personalized landscaping, private lakes, an equestrian area, and natural hot springs! The main house will be so massive that it will still look small compared to the sheer size of the lot. And I’ll have it constructed close to my new residence, so we can share a drink without crossing the city.”

Alaric raised a single, impressed brow at the sheer scale of the architectural promise. He had asked for a house; Kyū was offering a sovereign estate. He gave a firm, satisfied nod. ”I look forward to it.”

Overcome by a profound, soaring sense of relief and genuine happiness... the famine cured, the treason unearthed, and his ’old friend’ returned... Kyū beamed.

”Alaric, you must join me for a very late dinner,” the Daimyo insisted, standing up from his desk with renewed vigor. ”And if you are available, I would be honored if you joined me for drinks afterward. The finest sake in the land. It is the least I can do as a humble gesture of my thanks.”

Alaric thought about it for a fraction of a second. He had time, and the prospect of high-end, royal-grade sake was an offer he rarely declined.

”I’d be delighted,” Alaric smiled, rising to his feet and nodding his head.

As they walked out of the study together, the atmosphere light and jovial, Alaric couldn’t help but marvel at the terrifying, subtle power woven into the fabric of reality by the Kotoamatsukami. He hadn’t turned the Daimyo into a mindless drone; he had simply inserted a profound, unbreakable foundation of trust and camaraderie. The result was a leader who would happily move mountains and empty treasuries for a man he genuinely believed was his oldest, dearest friend.

’Shisui’s eye really is a cheat code,’ Alaric noted internally, a dark amusement coloring his thoughts. ’It’s almost unfair.’

---Later That Night---

The moon hung high and brilliant over the Fire Capital, casting a pale, silver glow over the metropolis.

It was past midnight. Deep within the royal manor, Kyū Madoka was dead drunk, snoring peacefully in his opulent chambers after consuming an ill-advised amount of premium sake while attempting to match Alaric drink for drink.

Alaric, completely unaffected by the alcohol thanks to his accelerated cellular regeneration, had excused himself to the highest vantage point of the estate.

He stood alone on the sweeping, tiled roof of the Daimyo’s residence, the cool autumn breeze tugging at the lapels of his standard Konoha flak jacket. He had an unlit cigar resting between his lips, his hands buried deep in his pockets as he looked out over the quiet, sleeping expanse of the capital.

His mind, sharp and unclouded, wandered through the intricate, shifting tapestry of the world’s timeline.

’Everything is beginning to spiral out of its original orbit,’ Alaric analyzed, his gaze sweeping over the distant, fortified walls of the city. ’Iwagakure engaging in underhanded, economic warfare by colluding with a noble to orchestrate a famine... none of this was ever mentioned in the original story.’

He took the cigar from his mouth, tracing the unlit rim with his thumb.

’Perhaps my mere presence and actions have generated a massive butterfly effect. By removing key pieces like Danzo and altering the fundamental trajectory of characters like Haku, I’ve forced the world to adapt. The board is resetting itself with new variables.’

However, as he considered the unpredictable future, he found that he simply didn’t care. In fact, a slow, predatory thrill hummed in his veins.

Unlike the Assassin’s Creed world... where he stood as an absolute, untouchable god among entirely ordinary humans, with only Kassandra and the Vanguard serving as any true measure of power... this world was chaotic, vibrant, and incredibly strong. It possessed legendary bloodlines, ancient demons, and men who could split the sky with a hand seal.

It was interesting.

’It doesn’t mean I will ever abandon my old world or my empire,’ Alaric thought, a soft, affectionate smile touching his lips as the image of Kassandra holding little Hunter flashed in his mind. ’But this place... it’s the perfect crucible. Once I ensure the major, apocalyptic threats are neutralized, I’ll bring them here. I can serve as the gateway. They deserve a vacation in a world that is far from ordinary.’

He closed his eyes, enjoying the crisp bite of the midnight air, letting the profound silence of the city wash over him.

Suddenly, the silence was broken.

It wasn’t a sound. It was a sharp, distinct tingle... a localized, spatial ripple resonating deep within his chakra network.

Alaric’s eyes snapped open, his brow furrowing in mild surprise. He focused his internal senses, tracing the precise, esoteric frequency of the signal. It wasn’t one of the markers he had left in Konoha, nor was it a random tag scattered across the continent.

This specific Hiraishin signature was tied directly to the blank scroll he had tossed into the shadows of the forest earlier that day. The scroll he had given to a certain, conflicted Uchiha.

’He wants to talk to me?’ Alaric thought, a genuine look of intrigue crossing his sharp features. ’That’s kinda early... I expected him to brood over the revelations for at least a few months.’

A confident, anticipating smirk curved his lips. The pieces on the board were moving faster than he had anticipated.

”Well, let’s see what the prodigy has to say.”

Without weaving a single sign, Alaric channeled his chakra into the specific spatial tether.
