Chapter 317: Chapter 316: The Valley of the Gods

---The Valley of the End---

out with a sharp, concussive clap that echoed across the vast canyon.

They materialized at the very precipice of history. The Valley of the End lay stretched beneath the midday sun, a colossal monument to the foundational violence of the shinobi world. The roaring curtain of the great waterfall plunged into the churning depths below, throwing up a perpetual mist that caught the light and spun it into fragile, fleeting rainbows. It was almost noon, the sky a brilliant, unforgiving blue, yet the air sweeping through the gorge was biting and cold, carrying the damp chill of the river.

Minato Namikaze and his wife, Kushina, stood atop the moss-crowned head of Hashirama Senju.

Directly across the chasm, separated by the thunderous roar of falling water, Alaric and Haku stood atop the spiky, stone-carved mane of Madara Uchiha.

For a long moment, the only sound was the relentless fury of the waterfall. The sheer scale of the environment seemed designed to dwarf mortal men, to remind them of the titans who had once shattered this earth. Yet, the four figures perched upon the stone giants did not look diminished. They looked like they belonged.

Minato stood at the edge of the First Hokage’s stone brow. The golden, ethereal flames of his Kurama Chakra Mode flickered and danced in the wind, casting a warm, brilliant halo against the cold mist. He looked across the gap, his cerulean eyes locking onto the man in the crimson coat.

”Alaric-san,” Minato called out, his voice infused with just enough chakra to carry perfectly over the roar of the falls. A genuine, profoundly respectful smile curved his lips. ”I must admit... you’re the strongest man I’ve ever faced.”

On the opposite statue, Alaric raised a single, platinum-blonde brow, the wind whipping the tails of his coat around his boots. He let out a low, carrying chuckle that resonated with an answering weight.

”Same to you, Namikaze,” Alaric replied effortlessly.

Without another word, Minato stepped off the edge.

He didn’t fall so much as he glided, gravity surrendering to his absolute chakra control. Alaric mirrored the motion a second later, stepping off Madara’s stone visage.

They plummeted hundreds of feet, twin meteors of gold and crimson cutting through the mist, before touching down on the turbulent surface of the plunge pool. The water rippled violently beneath their boots, but neither man sank a single millimeter. They stood perhaps fifty meters apart, the current rushing wildly around their ankles.

They did not strike immediately.

Instead, a suffocating, hyper-focused stillness settled over the river. They stared at each other, their senses expanded to the absolute limit, hunting for the microscopic tells that preceded violence... the twitch of a muscle, the shift of a pupil, the faint, internal hum of a chakra coil preparing to ignite.

This version of Minato... anchored in a living, perfected body and possessing the cooperative half of the Nine-Tails... was so overwhelmingly potent that it triggered something deep within Alaric.

Alaric suddenly threw his head back and laughed.

It was a rich, full-bodied sound that cut through the roar of the waterfall, bouncing off the canyon walls. It held no malice, only the pure, intoxicating thrill of an apex predator finally encountering a peer.

Minato’s brow furrowed in momentary confusion, his golden cloak flaring slightly.

”It’s been a while since I had to use this,” Alaric said, his laughter subsiding into a predatory smirk as he lowered his head to lock eyes with the Hokage. ”But you’re strong, Yondaime... incredibly strong. Especially with that borrowed beast’s engine running through your veins.”

Minato smiled, a modest dip of his head. He was about to politely state that he would wait for Alaric to power up, assuming the blonde man required time to gather his energy, but the words died in his throat.

His eyes widened drastically. Every sensory instinct he possessed... magnified a hundredfold by Kurama’s presence... screamed in sudden, primal warning.

Alaric hadn’t woven a seal. He hadn’t stood still to draw in natural energy.

He simply flicked a switch.

The ambient temperature of the valley plummeted, then spiked violently, the very air warping around Alaric as the atmosphere struggled to contain his existence. His Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan remained, spinning with crimson geometry, but a profound transformation overtook his features.

A small, intricate tattoo of a phoenix with its wings spread wide materialized over his left eye, glowing with a searing, living red light. Simultaneously, thick, scarlet pigmentation bloomed around his eyelids, sweeping outward like painted flames.

The carefree, laidback merchant who complained about wrinkled coats vanished entirely. In his place stood an ancient, elemental god of war. The aura he projected was so catastrophically dense it pushed the water of the plunge pool away, creating a shallow, dry crater beneath his boots.

High above, on the statues, both Kushina and Haku visibly recoiled.

Kushina gasped, her hands flying to her stomach as she felt the sheer, crushing gravity of Alaric’s true presence. Haku’s eyes widened, his hand gripping the hilt of his Kusanagi tightly enough to turn his knuckles white. The anomaly had finally shed his skin.

”This is my Sage Mode,” Alaric stated, his voice resonating with a bizarre, dual-layered echo that sounded like crackling fire and howling wind. He offered Minato a sharp, unyielding smile. ”I advise you to merge your Sage Mode with your Kurama Mode immediately. Because if you don’t... I’ll have to revive you again.”

Minato didn’t know how to reply, largely because he recognized instantly that Alaric’s statement carried zero arrogance. It was a cold, mathematical fact.

Through his own empathetic sensing, Minato could feel the boundless, terrifying depths of Alaric’s nature energy. It wasn’t borrowed from toads or snakes; it felt self-generating, as if the man were a localized sun. Looking at Alaric now made Minato’s heart hammer against his ribs... a potent cocktail of deep-seated nerves and exhilarating anticipation.

(He doesn’t know of Alaric’s Phoenix Summoning, so he thinks it’s self generating Senjutsu)

”Before we start,” Minato breathed, his hands coming together in a rapid seal, forcing the ambient nature energy of the valley to fuse with his golden chakra. The horizontal bars of the toad sage intersected perfectly with the slitted pupils of the fox, forming cross-shaped irises. ”I’d like to confirm that your Shinsei Tensei worked successfully. I am in my absolute peak form.”

Alaric raised a scarlet-marked brow. He gave a single, slow nod of his head.

The exact microsecond Alaric’s chin dipped, Minato vanished.

There was no sound, no displacement of air. He was simply erased from the timeline of his previous location and inserted directly beside Alaric. A hyper-compressed Rasengan, whining with devastating rotational force, was already inches from Alaric’s exposed ribs.

For a fraction of a heartbeat, it almost worked. Minato’s speed, compounded by the fusion of Sage and Kurama modes, was a violation of reality.

However, Minato’s eyes widened in profound shock as his Rasengan plunged into empty space.

Alaric was gone.

Before Minato could even abort the thrust, the air around him shrieked. From the moisture of the mist and the trace minerals in the water, dozens of jagged, impossibly dense spikes of black titanium erupted from all sides, converging on Minato like an iron maiden closing its jaws.

Vulcan.

Forced onto the defensive, Minato had no time to plant a Hiraishin marker on the water. Relying on an old coordinate, he teleported instantly, the titanium spikes clashing harmlessly against each other where he had just stood.

He reappeared high above, landing in a crouch atop Hashirama’s head.

He didn’t pause to breathe. With a blur of motion that defied human anatomy, Minato unsealed a specialized storage scroll from his wrist.

He threw his arms wide, a massive pulse of golden chakra accelerating the deployment.

Tens of thousands of three-pronged, marked kunai erupted from the scroll like a flock of iron birds. They blacked out the sun for a brief moment, raining down across the entire expanse of the Valley of the End. They embedded deeply into the riverbed, the cliff faces, the stone statues, and the churning waters themselves, turning the entire geographical basin into Minato’s personal, inescapable web.

Down in the plunge pool, Alaric looked up at the falling rain of steel, a genuinely impressed whistle escaping his lips.

”Now that’s a lot of daggers,” Alaric murmured, his scarlet-marked eyes tracking the metallic downpour.

Minato leaped from Hashirama’s head, diving back into the fray.

The golden storm began.

Minato flickered between the falling kunai, his trajectory a jagged, unpredictable zigzag of yellow light. He appeared in front of Alaric, a Rasengan aimed at his chest, then instantly vanished before Alaric could parry, reappearing behind him with a sweeping kick, only to vanish again.

He was attacking from six different angles in the span of a single second, chaining spatial jumps with lethal precision.

Alaric met the tempest with the fury of a natural disaster.

His hands blurred into a single, solitary seal... the Tiger.

”Fire Release: Majestic Destroyer Flame!”

Alaric inhaled, his chest expanding unnaturally, and exhaled a sea of white-hot, super-compressed fire. It wasn’t a fireball; it was a localized apocalypse. The flames surged forward, vaporizing the plunge pool instantly and expanding into a colossal wave that consumed the entire lower half of the valley, melting the falling kunai into molten slag.

Minato was forced to abandon his close-quarters assault, teleporting wildly to a marker lodged high on the cliff wall to avoid being incinerated.

The heat was staggering, turning the canyon into a literal oven.

From the steam and smoke, Alaric emerged, his feet stepping onto a thick, rapidly growing branch of Wood Release that spiraled out of the scorched riverbed. He raised his right hand, his golden chakra spinning violently into a sphere, while his left hand injected an immense, shrieking volume of wind nature into the core.

Four massive, razor-thin blades of wind erupted around the sphere, spinning so fast they emitted a high-pitched, deafening screech that drowned out the waterfall.

Rasenshuriken.

Minato, clinging to the cliff face, stared at the technique with unabashed awe. ’He mastered shape and nature manipulation to its absolute pinnacle... simultaneously!’

Alaric threw it.

The Rasenshuriken didn’t just fly; it expanded as it crossed the distance, cutting through the steam like a buzzsaw.

Minato didn’t try to deflect it. He grabbed a marked kunai, infused it with Sage chakra, and hurled it directly at the incoming vortex of wind. The moment the kunai passed the center of the jutsu, Minato teleported.

He materialized behind the Rasenshuriken, completely bypassing the blast radius, and lunged toward Alaric with a Giant Rasengan swelling in his palm, ready to crush the blonde anomaly into the wood construct.

He brought the massive sphere down, confident in the blind spot.

But a hand clad in a crimson sleeve casually reached up and caught his wrist.

Minato’s heart stopped.

He hadn’t felt Alaric move. He hadn’t seen a blur. The man was simply there, intercepting a teleportation-strike as if he had been waiting for it.

”You’re fast, Namikaze,” Alaric whispered, his glowing red tattoo seeming to burn into Minato’s soul. ”But Hiraishin relies on space.”

Alaric’s eyes flared.

”Swift Release.”

Alaric didn’t teleport. He simply accelerated to a velocity that bypassed the friction of the physical world entirely.

Before Minato could wrench his arm free, Alaric pivoted, driving a devastating, chakra-enhanced knee into the Hokage’s stomach. The sheer kinetic force of the blow shattered the Kurama cloak’s outer layer, sending Minato rocketing backward like a fired artillery shell.

He skipped violently across the surface of the river, carving a massive wake of displaced water, until he slammed into the base of Madara’s statue, the impact creating a localized earthquake that shook the stone colossus to its roots.

High above, the shockwaves of the battle had forced Kushina to abandon her position on Hashirama. Using her golden adamantine chains like grappling hooks, she had swung across the perilous gap of the roaring waterfall, landing heavily on Madara’s head right beside Haku.

She breathed heavily, her violet eyes wide with a mixture of terror and awe as she looked down at the cataclysm unfolding in the gorge. The valley was being torn apart. Plumes of steam, towering wooden dragons, blinding flashes of yellow, and expanding craters of destruction marred the historical site.

”Who... who is he?” Kushina gasped, her voice trembling as she clutched the stone edge of the statue. ”That’s not normal jutsu. That’s not normal chakra! He’s throwing S-rank techniques with single hand seals and out-speeding the Flying Thunder God!”

Haku stood beside her, his arms crossed loosely within his sleeves. He remained stoically calm, but internally, his mind was reeling. He had fought Alaric for eight hours just a day ago, but this... this was an entirely different universe of power.

”He is my Sensei,” Haku replied softly, the wind whipping his dark hair around his face.

He watched as Alaric materialized a colossal titanium broadsword via Vulcan, swinging it with enough force to cleave a massive Wood Release construct in half just to get to Minato.

”And honestly, Lady Uzumaki...” Haku murmured, his pale eyes reflecting the explosions below. ”...this is the very first time I have ever seen him take a fight seriously.”
