Chapter 302: Chapter 301: The End of Art

---Akatsuki Hideout - River Country Cavern---

The cavern did not move. It did not breathe. For a moment, it felt as though time itself had stumbled, unable to process the sequence of events that had just unfolded.

First, there was the light. The blinding, apocalyptic white of Deidara’s C0... a suicide technique designed to erase everything within ten kilometers. It was a promise of mutual destruction, a final, screaming declaration that his art would not be ignored. The Akatsuki holograms had braced themselves, the ritual faltering as they anticipated the erasure of their prize and their hideout.

Then, there was the silence.

The light hadn’t faded; it had been deleted. The explosion had been choked in its cradle by a single piece of paper and a hand that moved faster than thought.

And now, there was Alaric.

He stood beside the frozen, terrified form of Deidara, looking for all the world like he had just stopped by for a casual chat. His crimson coat was draped over his shoulders, his posture relaxed, a cigar in his hand.

The shock in the room was palpable. It was a physical weight.

Pein, watching from the high finger of the Gedo Mazo, felt a ripple of genuine disturbance. His Rinnegan... the eyes of a god... had not seen Alaric move. One moment the man was absent, the next he was sealing an S-class explosion with a slap.

’This is problematic,’ Pein thought, his gaze fixing on the blonde intruder. ’He disrupted the chakra flow of a detonation sequence instantly. That requires mastery of Fuinjutsu beyond standard comprehension. And his presence...’

Pein’s eyes narrowed as Alaric looked up and smirked directly at him.

’He is more dangerous than the Ice Devil. He is an anomaly.’

Sasori, encased in his Hiruko puppet, shifted his stance. His wooden eyes darted from his partner... now useless and terrified... to the Uchiha brat who had cut his tail, to the Ice-user who had nearly killed Deidara twice, and finally to the new arrival.

’Reinforcements,’ Sasori analyzed coldly. ’And powerful ones. Deidara is compromised. The ritual is incomplete. The situation has degraded from manageable to critical.’

”Haku, I’m quite disappointed,” Alaric said, breaking the silence. He didn’t look at the Akatsuki. He turned his back on them, facing his student. He shook his head slightly, like a teacher correcting a math error.

”You already fought an explosion user before... and yet you’re having a hard time with this one?”

The casual critique echoed in the cavern. Team 7 stared at him. Kakashi’s eye was wide. Naruto’s jaw was dropped. They were in the middle of a S-rank crisis, and Alaric was giving a performance review.

Haku stared at Alaric for a second. Then, he chuckled, straightening his posture. He wiped a smudge of soot from his cheek.

”He’s not necessarily at the same level as the one before, Sensei,” Haku defended, though his tone was respectful. ”His range and versatility are higher.”

”That’s true,” Alaric nodded, conceding the point. He took a drag from his cigar. ”However... you also had plenty of time to kill him before he could make a move. You played with him. You let him ascend. You let him monologue.”

Alaric’s blue eyes sharpened.

”Are you that confident in your skills now? Remember, the Kazekage’s life is also on the line. Arrogance is a luxury we don’t have when the clock is ticking.”

Haku didn’t lower his head, but he felt the sting of truth. He admitted it to himself... he had been testing himself against an Akatsuki member, enjoying the challenge, rather than executing the mission with maximum efficiency. He had allowed the spectacle to drag on.

”You are right,” Haku said softly. ”I apologize.”

Alaric looked at Haku, then sighed. ”Don’t apologize to me. Apologize to the guy hanging from the ceiling.”

Alaric turned. His gaze swept over Team 7, lingering briefly on Sasuke, then moved to Sasori, and finally up to the Gedo Mazo and the holographic members of Akatsuki.

”Now,” Alaric said, removing the cigar from his mouth. ”Let’s tidy up.”

Flicker.

He didn’t run. He didn’t jump.

He simply ceased to be in one location and began to be in another.

Alaric appeared instantly beside the Gedo Mazo’s head, hovering in mid-air. He was face-to-face with the demonic statue.

Pein’s eyes widened. He tried to react, tried to pulse chakra to repel the intruder, but his body... miles away in Amegakure... couldn’t transmit the command fast enough through the projection.

Alaric slapped his hand onto the wood of the statue’s forehead.

Fuinjutsu: Celestial Anchor - Disrupt.

GROOOAAAN.

The Gedo Mazo roared. It wasn’t a sound of anger, but of sudden, violent rejection. The entire cavern vibrated as if an earthquake had struck.

The blue streams of chakra... the phantom dragons extracting Shukaku... shattered like glass. The connection was severed instantly.

Gaara dropped.

He fell from the air, limp as a ragdoll. Naruto moved instinctively, leaping to catch him before he hit the ground.

The statue shuddered, its connection to the Akatsuki members destabilizing.

”He... he cancelled the summon?!” Kisame shouted, his hologram flickering. ”From the outside!?”

”Impossible!” Zetsu hissed.

Pein stared at Alaric. For the first time, the ”God” looked truly rattled. Even with the Rinnegan, he hadn’t been able to stop it. The only time he saw Alaric move was when the seal was already placed.

The Gedo Mazo began to fade, sinking back into the dimension from which it was summoned, rejected by the interference in its chakra network.

”Retreat,” Pein ordered, his voice tight. ”The extraction has failed.”

The holograms vanished one by one.

But Sasori was still there.

The puppet master grit his teeth inside his shell. ”Failed? I don’t fail.”

He raised his mechanical tail, aiming for Naruto and the falling Gaara. ”If I can’t have the Bijuu, I’ll take the Jinchuriki’s corpse!”

He fired a barrage of poison-tipped senbon.

Clink. Clink. Clink.

They never reached Naruto.

Haku was there.

He stood between Sasori and the rest of the team. He wasn’t smiling anymore. His eyes were cold, focused, and terrifyingly void of mercy.

”My Sensei is right,” Haku whispered. ”I wasted time.”

He raised one hand.

Ice Release: Crystal Ice Mirrors.

But he didn’t form a dome around himself. He formed it around Sasori.

Dozens of mirrors materialized instantly, encasing the puppet master in a sphere of reflection.

Sasori looked around. ”Mirrors? You think this—”

Haku stepped into the glass.

Zero Friction: Omnidirectional Assault.

Haku didn’t just move fast; he became velocity itself. He was everywhere at once inside the dome.

Slash. Slash. Slash.

The sound of cutting was continuous, a high-pitched whine of steel on wood.

Sasori tried to react. He tried to unleash his Iron Sand. He tried to open his flamethrowers.

But before his chakra strings could twitch, before his mechanisms could click, they were severed.

Haku appeared in front of him, behind him, above him.

Kusanagi flashed.

The Hiruko puppet’s heavy shell cracked. The tail was sliced into segments. The poison launchers were dismantled.

The outer shell shattered, revealing the true form of Sasori beneath... the youthful puppet body.

Sasori’s eyes widened. ”You—”

Haku appeared directly in front of him. He didn’t use a jutsu. He didn’t use a trick.

He drove Kusanagi straight through the core of Sasori’s chest, right where the cylinder of living flesh beat.

CRUNCH.

The blade pierced the heart container.

Haku twisted the blade. Wind chakra flooded the wound, shredding the biological components instantly.

”Game over,” Haku said.

He pulled the blade out.

Sasori slumped. His puppet body fell to the ground, lifeless strings trailing from his fingers.

The ice mirrors shattered into mist.

Haku stood over the broken remains of the S-rank criminal, flicking the puppet oil and blood from his sword with a sharp snap of his wrist.

Silence returned to the cave.

Team 7 stared.

Naruto held Gaara, his eyes wide. Sakura was frozen. Sasuke was gritting his teeth, not from jealousy but the feeling of being a weight. Kakashi had lifted his headband but hadn’t even had time to use his Kamui.

They looked at Haku, who had dismantled a legendary Akatsuki member in seconds.

Then they looked up at Alaric, who was floating where the Gedo Mazo used to be, casually lighting his cigar again as if he hadn’t just slapped a demigod out of existence.

”Well,” Alaric said, exhaling a cloud of smoke. ”That’s better.”

He looked down at them, a lazy grin on his face.

”So... who’s hungry?”
